Guest Brian Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Forgot to mention the most important thing about this episode is that it gives you a truly fulfilling ending. Everything else has either ended on a low not, or with a divide between the group, for quite a while. This is conclusive. And the Kate/Angel convo at the end: Kate: "I feel like such an idiot." Angel: "A lot of that going around." Kate: "I just couldn't... - My whole life has been about being a cop. If I'm not part of the force it's like nothing I do means anything." Angel, still looking pretty beat up: "It doesn't." Kate: "Doesn't what?" Angel: "Mean anything. In the greater scheme or the big picture, nothing we do matters. There's no grand plan, no big win." Kate: "You seem kind of chipper about that." Angel: "Well, I guess I kinda - worked it out. If there is no great glorious end to all this, if - nothing we do matters, - then all that matters is what we do. 'cause that's all there is. What we do, now, today. - I fought for so long. For redemption, for a reward - finally just to beat the other guy, but... I never got it." Kate: "And now you do?" Angel: "Not all of it. All I wanna do is help. I wanna help because - I don't think people should suffer, as they do. Because, if there is no bigger meaning, then the smallest act of kindness - is the greatest thing in the world." Kate: "Yikes. It sounds like you had an epiphany." Angel: "I keep saying that. But nobody's listening." Kate: "Well, I'm pretty much convinced, since I'm alive to be convinced." Angel: "You know you don't have to be a cop to be..." Kate: "I'm okay. - Anyway, I'm *not* headed towards another pillathon. - I'm very grateful. - I never thought you'd come for me, but... I got cut a huge break and I believe... - I don't know what I believe, but I - have - faith. - I think maybe we're not alone in this." Angel: "Why?" Kate: "Because I never invited you in." RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! GO NOW! "And the british boy, he's gonna be playing a HUGE p-well.." Ramon... Elian... Lorne LOVES his cubans *cough* "All by myself" - song sung by the dude who "knocked Lorne out". I... don't think I've seen this episode before.... *gasp* Am I the only one thinking, at this moment, that this dude isn't really working on a space/time thingamajig, but rather a scientific method to get the two chicks in a 3 way. Lorne is great in this thus far. They really should give him a name. He deserves it. Wes, Gunn and Cordy "wallowing" when CSI Red Head comes in, "They invented, like, chairs or something". "When I'm with him I just feel... Lonely" There's a sympathy bone now? What's that connected to, the knee bone? BOOK! LORNE! VAN LORNENATOR! ECDUB! ECDUB! ECDUB! The dude in the lab is SO a Xander rip off. Wes doing his CLUE impression~! The have this weird association with FIRE. What's the deal with that? DANCING!!!!!!!!! Oh man this rules. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 Thin Dead Line, ACTIVATE! Gunns reaction to Wes's wishes... watch it. It's great. Gunn has been ruling in the past few episodes. AH! NOT THIS EPISODE! Fucking eye in the back of the head. The street lingo is hilarious "They about to put a CAP in my ASS". Do they have ANY black writers in Mutant Enemy. Angel fighting the cop. LIVER SHOT! Rodney King styles? There AREN'T any black writers in Mutant Enemy. Kates disheveled hair is SO hot. RUDO EXCLUSIVE! Or, at least I don't remember watching it. "Is this morphine? Well, it's bloody lovely" Cordy is COLD as ICE. "Do us a favour and stay away" ...Probably, like, the worst episode of the season thus far. Good, but... you know... cruddy.

RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 TRIPLE SHOT OF ANGEL!!! RE-RE-RE-REPRISE! Long hallway shot, clear separation of light and darkness, baby doll in a shopping cart, freaky music. Different tone than the usual fare on Angel, something is certainly in the air here... ..."mmmaaah"... I love how they cut off Angel tearing down the room in mid tear-down. Very abrupt cuts in the last minute of the scene, building tension. The last few episodes had been pretty light for a reason; to make THIS episode stand out all the more. Am I the only one who throws a KICK in the air when Angel breaks the door down in the video? Nice bit of continuity with the kid and the eye. AWESOME! James Whitmore Jr. directed this episode. I have no idea who that is, but I *do* know who James Whitmore is! BROOKS FN HADLIN! Tiny Tim, aka Optimistic Wes, is nice. Pessimistic Lilah is hot. Oh sweet foxy lady, I'd give you that baby... by having SEX with you enough times to have my sperm fertilize your egg... if you know what I mean. Kates hair, not messy, but tied back. Hot. Hmm, maybe its not just her hair that is attracting me to her... maybe it's SOMETHING ELSE. She's so penetratable when she's angry. The "I'm always dirty" line is one of the best in the shows history. They do a *great* job building up the "Senior Partner" revelation. Such coldbloodedness between Cordy, Wes and Angel. This Kate scene is painful to watch. Very nice parallels between Kate and Angel, with both being alone and isolating themselves - their work, their frustration in losing a battle that simply cannot be won. In Angels case, he fired those around him. In Kates, she was fired. Both went on suicide missions, Angels was a lil more productive. Actually, it was probably Kate giving up on life that made Angel want to fuck Darla (and therefore turn into Angelus). More continuity with the bookeeper. "Yeah, I dunno, I think it killed everyone there"... "Ok, now you're makin it up"... It didn't shock me now, but a few months ago when I rewatched this episode, the old dude gettin stuck surprised me. It's weird that there were two storylines that were basically dropped - Wes and Virgina, and the homeless shelter. Wes becoming noble, holding Virginia in his arms, sharing a tender moment... this could be the moment his character began to truly evolve into the man who died in Not Fade Away. LILAH WALKING! LILAH LEGS! Her brow raise when she saw Angel flinching was classic. "You don't count" - thats probably the best thing CC had done on the show. Amazing line. How many times has Angel fallen out of the really tall building? HOLLAND! Sam Anderson has been criminally overlooked in this role. You just can't beat this scene. This is as close to a perfect performance as you'll get on this show. Every line is PERFECT. Suicidal Kate? HOT! "I just want to feel something besides the cold" This sex scene is 100000000x's better than Spike and Buffys. "It doesn't matter... none of it matters" Kinda funny, considering this is the moment that sets everything in motion and is the central point of the Connor/Jasmine arc. You can just FEEL the rain at the end. "Reprise" -To repeat or resume an action; make a reprise of. It works on two levels specifically. The bait - Angel turning back into Angelus, repeating what happened in Season 2 Buffy. The switch - Angel moving back on the right path.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 yeah, the tension in Epiphany was nicely underplayed. It wasn't all just suggestive stuff, Gunn (and to an extent Cordelia) were fairly vocal about it, but the akward silences did a lot more to add to the tension
Anya 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 So....was that a real SP?
Guest Brian Report post Posted November 25, 2004 Not really, it had to assume that form to travel here, so it was sorta a conduit in that sense.

RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 If he had killed a SP, then they wouldn't still be called Wolfram & Hart... just Ram & Hart. Plus, they would have been a lil more mad at Angel. This was more of a "killed the vessel that held the SP". It's like breaking a glass that has water in it. The glass gets broken, but the water is still there - just not in the same form as before.
Anya 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 That whole thing had to be a set up though. Unless Holland just controls the elevator and had that speech memorized just in case, which would really suck for him. I guess he's got the time though, being dead and all.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 Well, it did sorta lead to Angel fucking Darla, so you never know whether the Jasmine influence was there or not. Holland was a smooth motherfucker, no memorization needed.
Anya 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 Angel was so close to actually being able to fight the SPs. All he had to do was word it differently when he got the ring and he would have gone to their dimension. I bet if he had REALLY tried he could have found a way to fight them. He just kinda gives up in S5 without even bothering to do research, he just takes Linday's explination at face value. There's magic for everything, surely they could go to their dimension. Guest Brian Report post Posted November 27, 2004 My mind's been on Reprise and the awesomeness lately, so I want to bring up some more really cool links with past and future. It's awesome to look at that line at the end of Redefinition to the elevator dialogue, to Power Play's ending dialogue with Angel and the gang. As for Disharmony, not so good. I like the comedy, but it's not a very strong story and it doesn't really fit into the rest of the seaon, coming at a pretty anticlimatic point. More later. Besides the SP's would have never wanted him dead. Or else they would have told their firm to do it for them. They we're milking him for the apocalypse. I'm sure they knew exactly what they were doing with Holland and Angel. They expected it to drive him further away from the good fight. That's what makes Reprise so pivotal. It's the point where Angel realizes that the idea of deveating evil is impossible. They can't be defeated.
AnonymousBroccoli 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2004 It's weird watching Villains on tape, with its Sheeva-worthy skin-ripping fun, while a bunch of cute, funky, bright-coloured cartoon things from YTV bounce around during the commercials. For Canadian folk, Space has Angel's 5th season starting up this coming Wednesday (early Thursday) at 1AM, after season 4 finishes up on Monday and Tuesday with Peace Out and Home. It'll be good to get S5 on tape, so I can free up 8+ gigs on my sister's laptop.

Guest Brian Report post Posted November 28, 2004 To say the least, I like Dead End a lot. I like the premise of a Lindsay-centric episode. I like Lindsay and Angel teaming up. But I do have some qualms with it, which I’ll get into first. I think they didn’t do quite enough to build up the sub-plot for this episode, much like they did with Gunn. I think they were trying to push him towards being a sympathetic character with Darla, and they didn’t do enough. Mind you, I like this stuff, but they did not move with his character like they should have. They could have easily pushed him in a dual role, working the hand angle and making him almost tragic. It could have easily worked with Angel’s story and this episode. Lindsay’s still up to this point been a bad guy, and the hints have been few and far apart that he’s not okay with being in Wolfram and Hart. I feel like they could have worked harder to set Lindsay up for this. It’s been a nice and subtle build, what with Lindsay not being able to tie his tie, but I think they could have worked on it more. It’s nice to see resolution to his character though. Nice little segment where Lindsay has his wooden hand and looking at his guitar. Angel has a nice change of pace in this episode, trying to be the compassionate character. I like the “Kill, Kill, Kill” with the notepad and Lindsay being all smooth at the office, and Lilah’s jealousy. I love the whole Caritas scene, and the set up. Comedy gold. And Lindsay singing was great. But Comedy gold. Angel: "There is only we can do now." Cordy: "Oh, god. Oh, no." Wesley: "The Karaoke bar." Gunn: "Angel's gonna sing?" Cordy: "Isn't there some other way?" Wesley: "There has to be. Think, damn it!" Angel looks form one to the other: "Hey! Wha..?" The Host is smiling, watching a guy up on the stage playing guitar and singing. It's Lindsey. Lindsey: "Pretty girl on every corner. Sunshine turns the sky to gold. Warm, warm, it's always warm here. And I can't take the cold." Cordy and the others come walking in. Cordy: "You should pick something short." Angel: "I was thinking about Stairway to Heaven." Wesley: "Don't even joke about that." Cordy: "Oh, my god, look who's..." Angel: "Lindsey?" Lindsey on stage: "This whole world shines so brightly." Host comes over to them: "Isn't he fabulous?" Angel: "He comes here?" Host: "He used to come all the time before some caballero chopped off his strumming hand. - Looks like he's got a new one." Lindsey: "Pretty as a picture, she's..." Cordy: "Wow. He's good." Gunn: "Lawyer's got some pipes." Lindsey: "Settles me with love and laughter." Angel: "You think he's good." Cordy never taking her eyes off Lindsey: "Shh." Lindsey: "and I can't feel a thing." Gunn nods to the music as Angel looks up at the ceiling. Lindsey: "The sky's gonna open. People gonna pray and crawl." Several demons are watching Lindsey up on the stage, smiling, tapping their hands to the music. Lindsey: "It's gonna rain down fire..." Angel: "What is that? Rock? Country? Ballad? Pick a style, pal." Wesley: "Shh." Host: "Angel cakes. Don't make me ask you to leave." Lindsey: "The sky is gonna open, people gonna pray and sing. Oh, I can't feel..." He ends the song with a chord and the audience starts to applaud and cheer. Cordy is clapping as well, eyes still fixed on Lindsey. Angel looks form Cordy to Gunn, who's nodding his head. Cordy: "We can't sing after that." Host: "You won't have to." Cordy looks over at Angel as the host meets Lindsey halfway from the stage carrying two drinks. Host: "Golly, pilgrim. Sure is good to have you back in the saddle. (Hands Lindsey one of the drinks) Your favorite. T&T, the imported." Lindsey takes the drink but only smells it. Lindsey: "Look, I got a crazy man's hand here who wants to kill - someone, maybe me, I don't know. What do you see?" Host leading him over towards where the A-team is standing: "Well, you know what they say: the hand is quicker than the eye. You'll get that later." Lindsey: "Look. I need help." Angel: "I'll say. You might want to start with his singing." Laughs. Cordy slaps the back of her hand against Angel's chest and steps up to Lindsey. Cordy: "Hi. You probably don't remember me. Cordelia. I know you're evil - and everything, but that was just so amazing." Gunn: "That was kind of tight." Wesley: "Terrific, really." Angel: "Is everyone drunk?" Lindsey: "What's he doing here, huh? (To Angel) What are you looking at?" Host: "Easy, easy, children. I don't allow violence in *my* club. Angel's here for the same reason you are." Lindsey: "How's that?" Host: "Two enemies, one case, all come together in a beautiful buddy-movie kind of way." Gunn: "They supposed to work together on this?" Lindsey: "Work with him? (Host nods) Work with him?" Host: "Am I the only one who saw 'Forty-eight Hours?'" That last line by Lorne was beautiful. I like Lindsay and Angel with the parole officer. Lindsay just brings a great dynamic with the other characters. I love the intense Lindsay playing off the comedic Angel, and Angel going all vamp, and talking about living off the parole officer for a month. I like them turning the tables, with Angel saying Lindsay’s moping and all, and those two getting ready to throw it down. With each other in front of the travel office. I need more of these two. Really, at the end with these two actually connecting and then Angel leaving the sign. They’ve given Angel a ton of depth this season. It’s good to see the visions taking their toll on Cordelia, building to the Pylea arc and next season.
Guest Brian Report post Posted November 28, 2004 Oh yeah, Lindsay and paranoid Lilah we're great. Lindsay and the "Evil Hand" speech were great. Lindsay was badass with the guard and the gun and slapping ass and "Chaaarrrleeeyy" and going over the dirt. Better comedy episode than Disharmony, and more story-driven. Lindsey: "The key to Wolfram and Hart: don't let them make you play their game. - You gotta make them play yours."
