Thanks to Sir Adam of GetInTheRing.tv for the following:

In what has to be the most embarrassing episode in the history of GIR Radio, SD Jones dissed Sir Adam and the Phantom. What was worse is that Sir Adam scheduled Jones to be in the “Main Event” slot of the show, following the King Jerry Lawler. Even worse, Sir Adam made the brilliant decision to hang up on Lawler to call SD!! Lawler was in the midst of his greatest radio interview ever, and Sir Adam using no brains whatsoever goes ahead with the planned SD JONES interview! And SD is a no show. Check out more embarrassing GIR stuff at the World’s Worst Website www.getinthering.tv or tune in this Sunday at 7PM Eastern 540 AM WLIE, in NY or in streaming audio at www.wlie.com.

-Lawler joins the show and talks football with Sir Adam, which is totally lost on Phantom. Phantom quickly brings up HHH bachelor party and how Sir Adam and he think Lawler would be the first guy on line at the party. Lawler disappoints GIR and says he won’t be making the bachelor party. Lawler asks the boys the details, because he didn’t even know about it.

-Phantom calls Jerry Lawler a ratings magnet and how WWE calls on him every so often to wrestle. He also says he looked younger than Christian in their recent matchup to which Lawler laughed. Lawler thinks he should be asked to wrestle even more than he is now. Lawler says that Vince McMahon doesn’t mind him taking indy shots, but Lawler would love to be used on Heat or Velocity. He tells a story of a RAW house show in Memphis when he teamed with Shawn Michaels to take on Ric Flair and HHH, after the match HHH approached Lawler and said he wished Jerry would be wrestling with them for the whole week because “it was just so easy out there, and the crowd was so responsive.” Lawler thinks that it is the difference between old school psychology and how the wrestlers approach a match today. He doesn’t try and give the younger workers advice on career longevity, because when he was a rookie and veterans used to tell him things, he would never listen. “You have to learn for yourself, but there is a reason why guys have a 30 year career and why some guys get out of it early because of injury.” “….the main thing in wrestling is charisma, and has nothing to do with age.” Lawler continues to talk about storytelling matches vs. high spot matches, and how fans really respond to a good story.

-Talk turns to MLW’s Wargames. Lawler says that Vince McMahon didn’t pull him out of the show. Lawler says he does so many indies and claims he was contacted by MLW, and never knew anything about them other than they were an Indy league trying to book him in St. Petersburg Florida. He accepted the booking and wrestled Terry Funk, never knowing that his match would air on Sunshine Network. He knew it was being filmed, but thought it was for videotape sales or for a local Florida cable channel, and didn’t think it would be available around the country via Direct TV/Sunshine Network. “JR called me and said someone brought it to (his) attention that they saw me on the Sunshine Network, and Vince told him that he knew I liked wrestling for independents, but he'd rather not have him wrestle on someone else’s TV. “ So Lawler called MLW to inform them that he would wrestle for them, only if his matches weren’t used on their TV. The MLW rep. (assuming it was Court Bauer) claimed to understand his predicament, but stressed that since he wasn’t told ahead of time, his TV was built around this Wargames match featuring Lawler. Jerry stood his ground, and feels he will work some shots in the future with MLW, just not for air on TV.

-The boys bring up Lawler and JR vs. Al Snow and Coach at Unforgiven and Lawler says he’s looking forward to the match, but can’t picture RAW being hosted by the Heat crew. He said the cameramen don’t even watch the show when they commentate. Phantom brings up the period of time when Coach subbed for Jim Ross, and how it seemed that Lawler got legit ticked off at Coach several times. Lawler felt like Coach talked way too much during matches, and never let the action speak for itself. “Sometimes I wanted to just turn to him and slap him, and say slow down. This is not radio, it's television people can see what’s going on you don’t have to describe every single second of action.” Lawler goes on to say that Coach was excited about the prospect and under a lot of pressure. “One thing allot of people don’t realize is that Vince McMahon is right in your ear. He can talk to you at any given moment….I have witnessed Vince you know, I’m not going to say lambasting Coach on the air, but you just know that if you make the slightest mistake you know he’s right there to give it to you. Needless to say, there’s a lot of pressure.”

-On the war of words between Hulk Hogan and Mick Foley, Lawler felt Foley “did exactly what he needed to do and more importantly what he wanted to do to be successful, as did Hogan. I think it’s ridiculous for those two guys to be arguing about ‘I did it right, and you did it wrong’. You’re talking about apples and oranges, two different characters. But they both had charisma.” Talk turns to the infamous Foley fall off the Hell in a Cell cage and Lawler claims to be as surprised as anyone at the incredible fall. He had no idea what Foley was planning on doing. “To me the more impressive fall was through the cage….he could have been killed or at least paralyzed. I don’t think that made Mick Foley. It was a culmination of things he did.”

-The only other injury that was as traumatic as the Owen Hart death, was when Droz was paralyzed. King was there and held Droz’ hand when he was injured and Lawler told Drozdov not to worry that it was probably just a stinger. But Droz told him “No King, I’m paralyzed, I know it”. “We can only imagine what that could be like, especially someone like Droz, who was an athlete all his life…it’s almost like having your life taken away from you. It takes an amazing person a strong person to continue to go on after something like that.” Lawler agrees that it must be very hard for D’lo Brown as well. “You can’t just help but wonder if any little thing went differently in that match would things have been different?” Phantom brings up that Lawler is very lucky to never had a major injury in the thousands of matches he’s had over his career. Lawler just says he’s been very fortunate over the years, and that when he was younger he did crazy bumps and never even wore kneepads in his career.

-Lawler mentions that he has a new girlfriend, and Phantom is happy for him. “You’re not as nearly as happy as I am,” Lawler says. It took him a long time to get back into a serious relationship after his difficult divorce. Lawler did a RAW show in Providence Rhode Island in January, “It’s tough to interact with any of the fans….I’ve been with the WWE since 1993 and have never met a girl at one of the shows….before the show ever started there was a young lady unfortunately with a guy, and we made eye contact and I became infatuated with her. Matter of fact I was paying so much attention to her…I wasn’t paying attention to the match and said to JR look at that chair shot, when someone hit someone else with a championship belt.” JR looked at Lawler with a questionable look, because Jerry didn’t want him to know he liked this girl, because “JR wants you to be focused…but I couldn’t help it.” During a commercial break Lawler mouthed to the girl, is that your boyfriend? And the girl shook her head no, to which Lawler then asked for her phone number. At another commercial break Lawler asked the floor director to get for a pen and paper, and the director’s response wa,s “Why you want me to get the number of that girl you’ve been looking at all night.” Lawler has been with her ever since, Sir Adam then starts to give Lawler hell for not going to the HHH bachelor party. “Don’t give me that ‘I’m not on the Smack down roster’, your new girlfriend won’t let you go.” Lawler confirmed Sir Adam’s belief, saying “I’ve been told by her I’m not allowed to go to the bachelor party.”

WWE Smackdown House Show Results From Greensboro, NC (9/15/03)

Thanks to Henry Carson for the following report:

Since this was the first ever wrestling event at the venue, facility services for the University had no clue on how to set up for a event like WWE Wrestling. There was really no area blocked off from the fans as the way the coliseum is set up, there are classrooms in the same building where classes went on until show time. Anyway, got to the arena around 12 to see what was going on. They finished setting up the ring about 2 and were still putting up the seats until about 3. That is when wrestlers started to arrive. Chris Beniot and Jamie Noble came together and then Sable showed up with Brock. Next Kidman and Torrie showed up. Kidman was cool and signed for the couple of people who were out. (at this point there is no security personnel at all) Next Nidia shows up with Orlando Jordan. From then on, everyone arrived one after the other. Doors open to the Arena at 6 p.m. and the crowd is hot from the time the doors open. The Arena holds 8000 and there were reportedly about 5000 in attendance. Big show of support since Vince graduated from ECU. On to the matches...

Match #1

Rey Mysterio vs. Tajiri-cruiserweight title match

Great match with both playing to the crowd and having fun during the match. They go back and forth and the match ends with Rey hitting the west coast pop. 1-2-3.

Winner-Mysterio

Match 2

Noble & Kidman vs. Basham Brothers

Funny match with Shaniqua playing to the crowd with whip in hand. Solid action for about 7 or 8 minutes with Kidman hitting the Shooting star press for the finish.

Winners-Kidman and Noble

Match 3

Matt Hardy v. Orlando Jordan

Well since we are in NORTH CAROLINA, and Matt is from here, HUGE pop for Matt and Shannon Moore. Orlando Jordan gets booed out of the building. Mattgets on the mic and says he is happy to be in NC and came to bring Mattitude to ECU. Match starts with Matt getting the upper hand. He pretty much carries the match until Jordan gets in a brief flurry of offense. Match ends with Matt hitting the twist of fate and getting the pin.

Winner-Matt Hardy

Match 4

A-train & Sean O'Haire v. Spanky & Paul London

Not much here... A-train & Sean O'Haire totally dominate the match and win with A-train hitting the derailer on Spanky.

Winners-Atrain & O'Haire.

Match 5

Nunzio v. Sho Funaki

Funaki is way over as people are still chanting indeed. Match was a classic cruiserweight match. Funaki needs to wrestle more as they both put on a great match. Match ends with Nunzio using the tights to get the roll up on Funaki.

Winner-Nunzio

At this point announcer says it is time for intermission and everyone starts to get up, but then Lesnar's music hits and everyone is in shock and the (you tapped out) chant starts. He grabs the mic and says he has been in this town 2 hours and that is 2 hours too long. Calls out Kurt and says he isn't gonna wait all night long and wants to fight now. Kurt's music hits and he comes through the curtain. As he gets 3/4 of the way to the ring Benjamin, Haas, & A-Train come out and attack him from behind. Out comes the APA and Kidman & Noble for the save. The fight to the back leaving Kurt and Brock in the ring and the ref rings the bell and the match starts. There went back and forth for about 2 minutes as Brock prepares to F-5 Kurt. Kurt counters into the ankle lock and Lesnar taps. I am sure the match was shortened do to the leg injury suffered by Brock at a previous house show over the weekend.

Winner-Kurt and retains WWE Title

15 minute intermission.

Match 7

APA v. World's Greatest Tag Team-WWE Tag Titles

Benjamin and Haas carry this match for the most part with APA mounting a comeback towards the end. Bradshaw hits the Clothesline from Hell and gets a 2 count. Haas grabs a title belt and nails Bradshaw and Benjamin rolls him up for the victory.

Match 8

Divas Bikini Contest

Nidia, Dawn Marie, Sable, Torrie Wilson

The guest ring announcer is Funaki. He comes out and then introduces Billy Weaver, the local tv anchor who will bring out the divas. Sable comes out first and says that there is no need for the others to come out because she is the reason everyone came. Nidia comes out next and stays in character doing some silly looking dances. Next comes Dawn Marie... Oh My God!!! She is sooooo hot. Finally Torrie comes out. Sable grabs the mic and accuses Nidia of looking full. Everyone thinks she is talking about her being fat, but pulls out some fake breast out of Nidia's top. Nidia runs to the back. The voting begins with Torrie getting the loudest pop even though both Dawn Marie and Sable looking better. She is declared the winner. but Sable attacks her afterwards. The fight in the ring briefly and then all go to back.

Match 9

Eddie Guerrero v. John Cena V. Chris Benoit for US Title

Before the match announcer makes us aware that Eddie is not here due to travel problems so it will be a one on one match with Cena and Benoit. Crowd boos. Out comes Cena. He is way over with the Crowd. Lots of Word Life signs and shirts. He grabs the mic and starts talking about ECU and how sorry they are and that it is home of the BUTT pirates and how we got killed Sat. night my the Miami Hurricanes. Classic Cena. Out comes Benoit and the match is about to start. Rhyno's music hits and he grabs the mic and says these people were promised a 3-way and they are gonna get it. Match starts with Rhyno and Cena dominating Benoit. While no one is paying attention Guerrero runs out to the ring hits Cena with the Belt and then hits a frog splash and gets the pin. (we all guessed it turned into a 4-way as soon as he showed up) While Eddie is pinning Cena, Beniot has Rhyno in the crossface.

Winner-Eddie Guerrero.

After the match he stays in the ring with Beniot. He apologizes for being late saying he had problems with the low rider. He then tells us all that every time he looks at the belt, he thinks of Benoit and that anytime he wants a shot, it is his. They hug and both leave the ring.

End of Show.

Overall great show and it went off well for it being the first WWE event in that arena. On a side note. After Brock left the ring after his match with Kurt, he was walking to the back down the aisle and this little kid is yelling at him. he looks at the kid and jumps at him and instantly the kid starts crying for about 10 minutes. During the intermission the kid's dad is pissed off and the trainer comes out and the dad is giving him a ear full. The trainer takes them both to the backstage area and I think the kid meets Brock and Brock apologizes to him. It was hilarious to see the kid's face change as Brock jumps at him.

Great Show.

Jim Ross is said to be furious with the angle he's currently involved in with Jonathan Coachman. The reason for his displeasure is that he feels that not only is the storyline poorly written, but he believes he shouldn't be receiving a place on the card since there are far more wrestlers who deserve a spot on the show.

The feeling amongst officials is that Shawn Michaels needs to do a great job of putting over Randy Orton at Unforgiven. Most see this as a crucial moment in Orton's development as a future main event superstar and Michaels has been given the burden of putting him over to take him to that next level.

Concussion sidelines Nowinski Christopher Nowinski has learned a valuable but extremely frustrating lesson over the past few months: a Superstar with a concussion -- at least one as severe as his -- cannot rush back to the ring. He must give it time, plenty of time, to properly heal. Visit WWE.com for the rest.

Triple H will be live in studio; and Randy Orton on the phone on this weeks WWE Byte This. The show airs on WWE.com Thursday at 4EST.

Jerry Lawler is a fucking idiot. No wonder he is so awful at color.
