All I've heard is Goldberg ended Bret's career, gave him some kind of injury.

What exactly happened? Did Bret screw something up, or did Goldberg? Was it an unavoidable accident, or someone's stupidity?

Do tell.

Bret got into the ring with a chair and Goldberg was suppose to do a side kick onto the chair into Bret's head. Then i guess Goldberg timed it wrong and connected with the chair full force right into Bret's head. Bret got a concussion from it.

I may be missing a thing or two but that is basically what happened

Bret, unless I'm wrong, got hurt 3 times during that match. There was the chair incedint that Satanico mentioned, and Bret did a ringpost figure four, and instead of grabbing his (Hart's) leg like he was supposed to, Goldberg let go and Bret fell on his head. Then Goldberg messed up a Jackhammer. I may be wrong tho

Goldberg also fucked up on the ring post figure four.He didn't hold Bret's leg right. He hurt his knee by doing that.

**EDIT**

Look's like Ravenbomb cleared everything up for you.

I didn't even know there was a chair involved! As far as I knew they met at Starcade 1999, and Goldberg went to give Hart a superkick to the head but did it totally unprotected and way too hard, so he basically kicked Hart as hard as he could with his boot. Then instead of WCW allowing him to recover, Bret went on wrestling for another month (I remember TV matches with Benoit and a HARDCORE match with Terry Funk) And finally had his concussion diagnosed in January which led to him vaccating the title and Benoit winning it for one day.

Well damn i didn't know he got hurt 3 different times during that match. All the more reason that no one should want to see Goldberg return.

I have the match on tape. It's amazing Bret contiuned, he took some really nasty spills  on his head.

I've seen the kick and it was nasty.  Greenberg nearly took Bret's head off with that shot.

Yeah i've got the match on tape too, I only noticed the ringpost figure four part when Goldberg moved his leg wrong and Bret hit the floor hard, then Goldberg pulled back on Bret's leg and hurt Bret's knee and the part when Goldberg put WAY too much force on the kick - it almost took Bret's head off.  Truthfully though, I don't blame Goldberg for that.  I blame WCW for only keeping Goldberg in the Powerplant for a year and never getting Goldberg to do more training to make sure he didn't injure other Wrestlers.

Bret kept Wrestling up until Souled Out, he said that he'd been noticing weird effects when he was in the ring and when he was travelling since Starrcade but he never thought anything of it until he was diagnosed with a concussion.  Bret said he was going to fight at Souled Out and then leave for a while but his doctor wouldn't clear him to Wrestle.  The only match I seen Bret Wrestle after Starrcade was against Kevin Nash and it finished with Arn Anderson (I think) coming down to the ring with a baseball bat and the cage lowering around the ring.  That might have been before Starrcade - I don't remember, but I think it was after Starrcade.

EDIT - There was no chair involved in the kick and Goldberg didn't do a Jackhammer during the match.  He missed one spear and after doing the other spear he posed for a while and shouted for Roddy Piper to run to the ring before Hart knocked Goldberg down and locked on the Sharpshooter as Roddy rang the bell for the Montreal finish.
