Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted September 22, 2003 Yeah, I know that some of you may be saying “why the hell did you pay to see Unforgiven?” Well, the short answer: I paid for the ticket before any matches were announced. At the time that I bought the ticket, the SummerSlam line-up was just starting to take shape. Granted, I knew that it was going to be a Raw-only PPV, but I bought a ticket anyway, just to see Jericho, RVD, and Flair. By the time that the card was starting to take shape, my friends and I regretted purchasing the tickets. Since we already bought the tickets (and couldn’t find four people willing to buy the tickets off of us), we decided to go. Please keep in mind that I’m going by how things came across in the arena. I don’t know how things came off on PPV (and I’m not about to watch the replay to check). Heat The Rock got booed during the trailer for “The Rundown.” Maven and Richards got a decent “Yay, first match” reaction. Victoria got a small pop for her slingshot somersault legdrop. The PPV The Dudley Boyz vs. La Resistance- crowd was pumped for this match. Conway took a sick bump through a table which drew a mild “holy shit” chant. Crowd popped huge when the Dudleyz won the title. Scott Steiner vs. Test- not as bad as I thought that it would be. Both men got a decent reaction, even Test. Friend #1 on Steiner’s double-underhook: “What the hell was that?” Me: “Uh..I think it was supposed to be a double-underhook powerbomb.” Friend #1: “Then why the fuck did he do it like that?” Friend #2: “It’s cause Steiner sucks. Didn’t you watch HHH-Steiner from Rumble?” Friend #1: “Hell no. Why the fuck would I do that?” Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton- a decent match, probably the best on the card (which isn’t really saying much). The crowd was pretty much into it. Crowd popped when HBK kicked out of the RKO. Crowd booed the hell out of the finish, and rightfully so. Orton’s win pretty much killed the crowd. Either that, or it was one hell of a coincidence that the crowd heat sucked for the rest of the night. Gail Kim & Molly Holly vs. Trish Stratus & Lita- crowd seemed dead for this match. As soon as Gail’s music hit, I saw people heading for the bathroom. A lot better than I expected, as it was short and pretty much inoffensive. Kane vs. Shane McMahon- For most of the match, I sat there thinking “there’s no fucking way that Shane should be getting this much offense in.” Crowd popped huge for the Van Terminator. A small “one more time” chant broke out. When Shane started to climb the set, an “elbow, elbow” chant broke out. From where I was sitting it looked like Shane went for a senton instead of an elbow. Large “holy shit” chant for the big bump. As Shane was getting stretchered out, he received a standing ovation and a loud “Shane O Mac” chant. Did I mention just how much I hate the Hershey crowd? Some idiot behind us yelled because we weren’t standing and clapping for Shane. That same fan then started talking to his son about how Kane didn’t really beat Shane, and that Shane beat himself. He predicted that next time, Shane would win. Fuckin’ Hershey fans. Christian vs. RVD vs. Chris Jericho- both RVD and Jericho got a good reaction upon their entrance. A small “Y2J” chant broke out in my section, while a chant of “RVD” broke out in the section beside us. The dueling chants ended up sounding like “Y2D.” The crowd was dead during most of the match. The crowd came alive for the electric chair powerbomb spot. From that point, the match got a decent reaction. Crowd popped huge when RVD hit the five-star. Crowd didn’t like the finish. Match was decent, but came off really bad due to the shitty reaction from the fans. Damn Hershey fans will give Shane McMahon a standing ovation, but sit on their fuckin’ hands while RVD and Jericho are in the ring. Snow & Coach vs. Lawler & Ross- Lawler and Ross got one of the biggest pops of the night. A rather large “We Want JR” chant broke out. Jericho’s run-in received a mixed reaction. I was cheering, not just because it was Jericho, but because the damn match was finally over. The people around me seemed rather disappointed that Austin and Bischoff didn’t come out to announce the match. HHH vs. Goldberg- the Goldberg chants that you may have heard weren’t piped in. The crowd really seemed to love Goldberg. A small “Goldberg Sucks” chant broke out several times during the match, but never really caught on. The same fan behind us from the Shane-Kane match called us “fucking morons who don’t know shit about wrestling” for chanting “Goldberg sucks.” HHH’s flying knee counter to Goldberg’s spear got a small pop. Crowd popped when Goldberg won the title. Nothing of note happened after the show went off the air. Goldberg celebrated in the ring and on his way back to the locker room. HHH got up (he was on the arena floor) and started to leave. He raised a fist into the air, then flipped off the crowd. Overall, I’d say that the show wasn’t worth the money that I spent on it. The crowd was dead for most of the PPV, and it probably came off worse on TV. I was expecting a decent crowd, since this was the first PPV in Hershey since December 1995's In Your House. Judging by the crowd at Unforgiven, I’d say that it will be another 8 years before a PPV comes back to Hershey. From my perspective, the event seemed like nothing more than a glorified house show. I had a much better time at the Smackdown house show back in June, then I did at this PPV.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2003 I had the option of going to the Smackdown house show last weekend or going to No Mercy in Baltimore. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I made the right decision with the house show. Unless it's a MAJOR PPV (Mania, Rumble, SSlam, or SSeries), I would probably always pick a house show over it. Did you happen to take any pics?
