Guest Eric the Eagle Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 "Angel" by Aerosmith (I actually really, really liked Shaggy's "Angel" too...) "November Rain" and "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns N' Roses "When I See You Smile" by Bad English "Hold on to my Heart" and "Forever Free" by W.A.S.P. (anyone seeing a pattern here, by the way? ) "Never Believed in Goodbye", "Perfect Mansions" and "Emalaith" by Virgin Steele And the two greatest love songs of all time; "The Ship Song" and "Straight to you" by Nick Cave. "Layla" is absolutely bloody great by the way. It was my father's second most favorite song of all time.
Guest Kinetic Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" is a great love song. Never before or since has the universal "I like you, let's fuck" sentiment been so eloquently expressed. Frank Sinatra once said that the Beatle's "Something" was the best love song of the last 50 years (or so). I can't really argue with that. There are a lot of honorable mentions, too. Bob Dylan's "Girl From the North Country" gives me chills every time I listen to it. It's hard for me to come up with these, actually. If the topic was "Best Songs About Bitterness, Anger, and Betrayal As They Pertain To Love," I'd go on all night. In fact...
Guest goodhelmet Posted April 6, 2002 Report Posted April 6, 2002 I'm a huge John Lennon fan but the best love song written by a Beatle was McCartney's 'Maybe I'm Amazed' As for the Beatles, my favorite love song of theirs would be 'I Will' Other notable love songs I love are Elvis Costello's 'You Stole My Bell' The Hollies 'Air That I Breathe' Manhattans 'Shining Star'
