New japan 5/2 lineup and more...

Recommended Posts

Guest Stuart

Thought I'd post this to provoke some discussion.

---

Lots of New Japan news. Firstly, announced matches for 5/2 (and no, it's not an April Fools this time)! There will be 11-12 matches altogether, with the full card announced in the coming days. NOAH involvement expected, with Chono vs. Misawa looking very possible. Sasaki vs. Minoru Suzuki hasn't been announced, so not sure if that's on or off. Tadao Yasuda vs. Don Frye is almost definite, and if Yasuda downs Nagata tomorrow, the belt will be on the line. Several of Inoki's shooters, such as Justin McCully and Wallid Ismail, will be on the show too. Joanie "Chyna" Laurie may face a New Japan undercarder or female wrestler. The show will have a live broadcast, probably 2 hours long and featuring the top matches.

NJPW "FIGHTING SPIRIT MEMORIAL DAY - 30TH ANNIVERSARY 3RD", 5/2/02 (TV)

Tokyo Dome

1. Manami Toyota [AJW] & Yumiko Hotta [AJW] vs. Kaoru Ito [AJW] & Momoe Nakanishi [AJW]

2. Kintaro Kanemura [Free/representing BJW] vs. Daisuke Sekimoto [bJW] (billed as "Young Warrior Inspection")

3. El Samurai & Tiger Mask 4 [Michinoku Pro] vs. Koji Kanemoto & Black Tiger (billed as "Tiger Confrontation Revival")

4. Jushin Thunder Liger & Minoru Tanaka vs. Jado & Gedo

5. Giant Silva vs. Giant Singh

6. IWGP Heavyweight Title: Winner of Yasuda/Nagata © vs. TBA

---

Although there will only be two outsider matches on 5/2, other groups will appear at the following shows...

5/28, "SENDAI FIGHTING SPIRIT MEMORIAL DAY" @ Miyagi Sports Center (PPV): SPWF (involving Yoshiaki Yatsu) and JD matches

6/7, "BATTLE ZONE 6-7" @ Tokyo Nippon Budokan (TV): DDT and ARSION matches

7/20, "SAPPORO FIGHTING SPIRIT MEMORIAL DAY" @ Hokkaido Sports Center (PPV and/or TV): NEO Ladies match

8/3 or 8/4, "G1 CLIMAX 2002" (TV): Osaka Pro match

8/7, "G1 CLIMAX 2002" (TV): KAGEKI match

8/10, "G1 CLIMAX 2002" (TV): JWP

Undecided: Kaientai Dojo

There may be more groups added, depending on who applies for matches on New Japan shows. This is part of Chono's 30th anniversary movement to give smaller promotions the chance to show off their wrestlers on big New Japan shows.

Block B: Minoru Tanaka, Masayuki Naruse, Wataru Inoue, El Samurai, AKIRA, Gedo, Tiger Mask 4

liger+tanaka v gedo+jado will be awesome, the rest of the show looks good and bad. i wish inoki would just create a shoot division in new japan and leave the iwgp belt to the wrestlers or just f**k off and start ufo again btw stu i know your probably sick of this question but when are you going to do another puroresu wrap up ?

Chono vs. Misawa

I wish they could've done this one a decade ago, but it could still be really interesting.

Tadao Yasuda vs. Don Frye

Anyone else think that Inoki might get the belt put on Frye as a reward for flattening Shamrock?

Joanie "Chyna" Laurie may face a New Japan undercarder or female wrestler

"Ms. Laurer, this is Aja Kong, your opponent for tonight.  Have fun."

5. Giant Silva vs. Giant Singh

Is this some kind of sick, sick joke?

1. Manami Toyota [AJW] & Yumiko Hotta [AJW] vs. Kaoru Ito [AJW] & Momoe Nakanishi [AJW]

This could be the best match on the show if Hotta can keep her ego in check and not hog the limelight too much.

2. Kintaro Kanemura [Free/representing BJW] vs. Daisuke Sekimoto [bJW] (billed as "Young Warrior Inspection")

Yawn

3. El Samurai & Tiger Mask 4 [Michinoku Pro] vs. Koji Kanemoto & Black Tiger (billed as "Tiger Confrontation Revival")

This could be really great and fun if Sliver King goes rudo apeshit on TMIV. Kanemoto and Samurai can be big, fun assholes too.

4. Jushin Thunder Liger & Minoru Tanaka vs. Jado & Gedo

Should be solid of course.

5. Giant Silva vs. Giant Singh

Harhar.

Good to see TMIV getting exposure in NJPW these days, though I don't really get the booking of him and Samurai together. I mean, Tanaka and Kanemoto are the ones feuding right now, so why aren't they booked in the same match? Just swap Tanaka and Samurai and you get both the Black Tiger/TMIV and Tanaka/Kanemoto showdowns in one match, and a perfectly acceptable match with Lyger/Samurai (who were the last ones to hold the Jr. Tag belts for Jado/Gedo) teaming instead. Oh well, I guess they've played that match too much and want to do somethind different.

yippie.  Battle of the giants.  Do you think they would be so kind as to put a 5 minute time limit on this match?

Gedo and Jado are quickly becoming one of my favorite tag teams in any promotion.

Why the hell is Rick Steiner still there?
