Ecwa super 8

Recommended Posts

Title seems to say it all... it's the biggest US indy event of the year, the probable (if not definite) US Indy Show of the year last year... is anyone from here going?  More than likely I am, I think Tim Cooke (Joey Splinter from the old board) may be there too... anyone else?

Who's in it and when is it?  'Cause I was thinking about it last year.  It's a bit of a drive, though.

The ECWA website has a lot of good stuff there, too, but here's what I've heard...

The participants in the Super 8:

Red

Xavier

Donovan Morgan

Bobby Rude

Pepper Parks

R.C. Haas

A.J. Styles

Matt Stryker

Given where they're from, and what I've read, I think I can discern that Red's an East Coast guy, the third member of the SAT (GREAT tag team), A.J. Styles is one of the top four or five guys in the US indy scene, Xavier's done a lot of work with JAPW, Donovan Morgan's in NOAH right now, Bobby Rude's some stranger from Toronto, and Pepper Parks and Matt Stryker, if I'm not mistaken, work with HWA.  Not sure on Parks.  And R.C. Haas is Russ Haas' brother.

Remember something, if you're sitting there, thinking "who the hell are these people?"  Well last year, very few people had heard of Low-Ki or American Dragon... so there you go.

Speaking of my favorites... I should note that there's a ladder match booked for the show for the ECWA title between Scoot Andrews and Billy Fives, who was in the Super 8 last year.  Hopefully that bodes well for those of us who want an American Dragon and Low-Ki appearance... what everyone would really like to see is a tag match against the SAT, which would make sense.

Also, think about it... last year, the US indy scene wasn't in that great of shape.  Then the Super 8 came around.  And the US indy scene entered what we really have to consider to be a Golden Age.  So there's a lot of factors built in here... the indies are in better shape, and that's good for business.  Plus, ECWA has had a GREAT year, so they've actually got plots running.  So maybe instead of Patch the Ring Guy and the J-Team, we'll get some real quality.

And who knows...

...Eddy?

We can only hope.  And if nothing else, the crowd will be a blast and a half.

I'm thinking about going.  To tell the truth, I haven't gone to an Indy show since this Summer where I went to a couple of the NWA's HORRIBLE shows in Wildwood NJ.

I have a rant of the show on my other computer, and I'll have to dig it out soon so you guys can read it.  It was so bad I wanted to just leave at intermission.

Gigolo, if you're in the tri-state area, I understand there's a group putting together a bus trip to the Super 8 from Queens.  I'm in Manhattan, so if I go (and I'm planning on doing so, time permitting) I'll probably go that way.  Once I hear more about the trip, I'll mention it here, more'n likely.

I think Parks wrestles for Thatcher. He won some cruiser title at the Pillman 2001 show.

I think AJ should win this year...he's the best talent in the bunch.

But I think Haas will win...I hate for this to sound morbid. But whenever someone like Haas has a tradegy like he had (brother dying and all) they are usually rewarded with a title or an important win or something like that.

Look at the Von Eric memorials...all the brothers went over every time.

WCW hadn't done a thing with Bret Hart...Owen die and they slap the world title on him as soon as he returns.

The fans like that kind of thing. And I'm not saying it's a bad thing...but it's a predictable thing.

Man, why does it have to be in freaking Delaware? I wish it were somewhere in NYC. If I do go (and it's a big if), I'll be doing the bus thing from Queens too.

I'm already on the list, I'm going.  All of the guys in the tourney are going to be on the bus for a meet and greet too, this is going to be great.

I just signed up myself for the bus trip.  I think for anyone in the Tri-State area, it's the best option.

Otherwise, lie, cheat, and steal to get up there... apparently Low-Ki, the SATs, and other people are going to be in the Summit, and Billy Fives (~~~~~!) is in the world title ladder match... if nothing else, it should be a good time, and it appears that practically every smart mark on the East Coast is going to be there.

And that's the benefit of the bus trip - you're guaranteed a ticket.

Does ECWA ever run any shows in the city (like at the Elk's Lodge), so I can see them without having to go on a road trip?

The only indys that run the Elks Lodge these days are ICW (which is pretty good, although it has too many matches on the card), and USA Pro (they are OK).

Hm, thanks. Is there anyone worth checking out that wrestles for either of these?

Bobby Rude is a indy wrestler who wrestles Predominately with Real Action Wrestling on the east coast in Canada... He wrestles a Old School style, and is almost errie as watching him is like watching a young flair or perfect...

He was trained by Sean Morley... and uses a fisherman's suplex and rolling suplexes... he's also a four time (And current RAW heavyweight champion)

He was a member of the Hugeley popular, and my personal favorite heel faction of all time, the kardinal sinners, until he was booted in late september...

He fought Mike Hughes in Nova Scotia's first ever cage match in November of 2001

Well for all of you who thought Haas was taking the tournament...think again. Haas is out of the tournament with a knee injury and will be replaced. This comes from 1wrestling.com.

Low-Ki, Red, The SAT's, Xavier, Quiet Storm, Divine, The Hit Squad, Homocide...all regulars of ICW.  As a matter of fact Low-Ki is the ICW champion.

For USA pro, they have a lot of ex-ECW guys like Nova, Guido, Chetti, Balls, Sandman, etc.

I prefer ICW shows, but both are quality feds.

I am definitely going to see this. I looked on the ECWA website to answer my questions but I didn't find answers. Can I anyone tell me:

What are the ticket prices?

How many matches?

How long will the show probably be?

Tickets even still available?

Is it general admission first-come first-served seating, or do you have a specific seat.

How many people will probably be there?

Thanks a lot guys.

So hey, anyone who's going, I want you to do me a favour...

When Bobby Rude is in the ring, chant "Vel-vet Pan-ties" *Clap, clap, clapclapclap* at him.

It's the tights he wears. Me and my friends originated that chant way back in the summer sometime, and I REFUSE to let it die.

Bobby Rude owns.

This was the last year ECWA ruled the independent world. Once Ring of Honor started to roll and TNA opened up shop, ECWA quickly faded away.
