Guest Some Guy Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 I'd go with Bruce Lee, but lately I'm really liking Jet Li.
Guest Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 jet li is overrated, he is a fag, sonny cheba would beat his ass
Guest J*ingus Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 In real life, Jet Li would quickly kill Chiba, and Van Damme for that matter. Jackie Chan is probably the only living one thus mentioned that could give him run for his money (although personally I wouldn't mind seeing Sammo Hung getting a shot). Overall, I'd say Chan. He's had worldwide mainstream success that Jet Li hasn't, he's a real martial artist which Van Damme isn't, and more people have seen him and his movies than have seen Bruce Lee's.
Guest dreamer420 Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 I like Jackie Chan. He's got mad skills and humor.
Guest razazteca Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 Donnie Yen was great in Iron Monkey, is also great with weapons. Leslie Cheung best sword play actor!!!! must see Storm Riders Yuen Biao great comedian, too bad he will never leave Jackie Chans shadow Sammo Hung made his mark in the business as the funny fat man The Venoms from the Shaw Brothers movies, classic stuff here I cannot wait for the Jackie Chan/Jet Li movie that they are working on together. As for who is the best Martial Artist in the business, it all depends on what style you like. Jackie make his mark with the comedy genre, Jet Li made his mark doing Wu Shu movies, Van Dam was successful in ripping off Bruce Lee, Sonny Chiba is ok as the badass you don't want to double cross but I think Chow Yun Fat can take him.
Guest starvenger Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 Of those listed Jet Li is probably the best Martial Artist and Jackie definitely had the charisma but Bruce was the total package. Had he lived longer he probably would have been as successful, if not more successful, as Jackie. >Leslie Cheung best sword play actor!!!! must see Storm Riders Man, I remember when he was just singing pop songs. Same with Anita Mui and Alan Tam, for that matter
Guest razazteca Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 multi talented super star Leslie Chan is a great actor, that can also sing ditto for Jackie Chan
Guest Shaved Bear Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 i voted for Jet Li, but I ask, why did you include Jean Claude etc., but you didnt include steven seagal
Guest starvenger Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 i voted for Jet Li, but I ask, why did you include Jean Claude etc., but you didnt include steven seagal My theory: only room for one token white guy...
Guest Anorak Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 Jackie Chan's films are the most entertaining because he is a master of physical comedy as well as crazy stunts. Police Story is just more enjoyable than something like Enter the Dragon.
Guest goodhelmet Posted April 6, 2002 Report Posted April 6, 2002 I love Bruce Lee movies but some of them are really hit-or-miss. And there has not been one Jet Li movie I have seen where I did not go holy shit! so I had to pick Jet Li.
Guest Posted April 7, 2002 Report Posted April 7, 2002 Jackie, for most of his ork in the 80s-early 90s.
Guest Annoyed Grunt Posted April 7, 2002 Report Posted April 7, 2002 I'd say Bruce Lee has the better fight scenes, but nothing beats a good Sonny Chiba movie.
Guest The Man in Blak Posted April 7, 2002 Report Posted April 7, 2002 I voted Jet Li for kicking ass no matter what kind of fight scene is presented, from leaping on giant stilts at the end of Iron Monkey to having creative uses for a firehose in Romeo Must Die to damn near every scene in Once Upon A Time in China. If I had to pick a second choice, it'd easily be Bruce Lee. Honorable Mentions go to Donnie Yen (very underrated) and Steven Seagal - why weren't these guys on the list again?
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted April 7, 2002 Report Posted April 7, 2002 Fist of Legend... That flick made be a Li fan for life...Jet Li farkin roolz.
Guest Posted April 7, 2002 Report Posted April 7, 2002 1.the only jackie chan move that was cool was when he fought the black bitches from way back in the day. HIs new shit is tired and gay, since rumble in the bronx. 2. Jet Li is shitty, special effects and shit that would never happen doesn;t impress me. His only descent, and I stress descent role was lethal weapon 4. The One=Gay and that Kiss of the Dragon shit was a big piece of shit. 3. Bruce Lee= Best Ever 4.Van Damme= Sucks, kickboxer and Bloodsport were good, the rest, terribly bad. 5.seagal=hahahahahahah 6. sonny cheba would beat everyones ass except bruce lee OH and chrouching tiger hidden dragon was shitty, what the fuck was with running up the trees, shit like that pisses me off. All this new shit is fuckin terrible, oh well I guess --Rob
Guest starvenger Posted April 7, 2002 Report Posted April 7, 2002 >1.the only jackie chan move that was cool was when he fought the black bitches from way back in the day. That was Armour of God, released in the US as Operation Condor 2 (AoG 2 was released as Operation Condor). >2. Jet Li is shitty, special effects and shit that would never happen doesn;t impress me. His only descent, and I stress descent role was lethal weapon 4. The One=Gay and that Kiss of the Dragon shit was a big piece of shit. You need to get some of his HK stuff. It's much, MUCH better than his US stuff. >4.Van Damme= Sucks, kickboxer and Bloodsport were good, the rest, terribly bad. Mentioned this in another thread, but Street Fighter is great unintentional comedy.
Guest J*ingus Posted April 8, 2002 Report Posted April 8, 2002 "kickboxer and Bloodsport were good" "chrouching tiger hidden dragon was shitty" Um, right.
Guest Posted April 10, 2002 Report Posted April 10, 2002 I voted for the Jet, but only because I never really considered Bruce Lee an actor but more of philosopher/martial artist.
Guest supersalvadorian Posted April 12, 2002 Report Posted April 12, 2002 Okay, in order from best to worst: 1- Bruce Lee. Let's face it, without him, there is no martial arts genre. He created it all by himself. 2- Jackie Chan. Proably better then Lee in certain areas, but focuses too much on comedy. Still, movies like Supercop make you realize how crazy and also talented he is. 3-Sonny Chiba. Get the 'Street Fighter' series (not the lame ass Van Damme one, but the ones from the 70's). This guy is SO underrated. 4- Jet Li. Haven't seeen too many of his movies, but he is really good. Proably the next big star in my opinion. 5- Van Damme. Most of his movies suck after 1990, but some, like 'Bloodsport' are pretty watchable. Segal sucks. I mean, he REALLY sucks. When you depend on firearms more then then your own hands as weapons, you suck. When you need the camera to go in really slow motion to whow how "powerful" your moves are, then you're just plain terrible. Supersalvadorian Sexier than the average bear.
Guest Posted April 12, 2002 Report Posted April 12, 2002 Seagal would kill Van Damme in a real fight.
