Guest Joe_G Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 Hearing Jim Cornette on the LAW a few months back convinced me to get a 6 month subscription to OVW tv. After some monstrous problems with my order (apparently their site was hacked and there were problems with plenty of other orders besides mine. On the plus side, they gave me a free tape for my troubles. They say they have the problem fixed, but caveat emptor if you're thinking of buying), I finally got four months worth of shows. The wrestling isn't great, but it's hardly bad either. Matches are kept short and very simple. No whacky moves like in Ring of Honor, nothing terribly high flying and no one gets slam dunked on their head. About the most exotic move I've seen so far is a Lionsault from Johnny Jeter. A lot of indy fans might find it boring, but I think they get a lot more out of lesser wrestlers that way. The booking is really great though, although with James Cornette booking that's no surprise. The characters are well defined, feuds are always logical and followed up on. They do a great job building up to "big" shows (which they held at Six Flags during the summer) and each show makes me want to see what happens on the next one. It's not for everyone, though. There's no strong style, high-flying, or hardcore wrestling here. Some people mind find comedy like the Cornette/Ken Bolin skits corny, although I always get a kick out of them. Definitely receommended for anyone who likes old school promotions.
Guest Dave O'Neill, Journalist Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 Unfortuneately, Corny and his booking are stuck in 1975, so, from what iv'e seen of it, i hate it Watch Matt Morgan and MI-Zark Henry feud over who can bodyslam each other?????? Gimme Russo anyday
Guest Joe Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 OVW is very old school...Personally, I like that...It's a refreshing change from the usual WWE/TNA/RoH stuff...But it's definitely not for everybody...
Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Joe, how much did you pay for the subscription? I've been meaning to track down some OVW for a long time.
Guest Joe_G Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 $126 for a six month subscription. So $21 bucks a tape, but you get four or five hours of shows on each tape.
