Guest Derek Bailey Report post Posted October 9, 2003 Since last night my PC has been freezing up as the busy light flashes rapidly and a clicking (in time with the flashing) can be heard from the computer. When I restart it freezes during the startup process and/or tells me that it has been unable to write to disk in drive C:, and that data or files may be lost. So far it has worked eventually, but this morning it took 20 minutes just to load my desktop icons. Having to resort to System Restore would be a major pain in the ass as I don't have a CD-RW and would lose lots of essential stuff, and attempts to use Scandisk have resulted in it not making any progress in over half an hour, so what can I do? Guest JohnnySwift Report post Posted October 9, 2003 The clicking sound is most likely the sound of your hard drive slowly dying. I've seen this problem a couple of times recently, especially with Western Digital hard drives. Best thing to do would be get a new hard drive and then ghost the image of your old hard drive onto the new one. Norton Ghost is my personal recommendation. That way you don't lose any of your files or settings and you get a brand new drive. Seagate or Maxtor are usually the most reliable that I've seen. But I'd kinda hurry on doing this since you never know how long your old drive will last. Good luck Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
