Byte This Report: Taker & A-Train

Recommended Posts

Hosts are as usual Dr Tom Pritchard and the ever-present Josh Matthews, who claims that since the introduction of pizza and cake into the Byte This studio that his hosting skills have gone drastically downhill. Dr. Tom tells him not to worry, as they were never much to begin with.

Josh promises a tremendous show, and almost on cue we have technical difficulties.

After a short break, Dr. Tom introduces the subject of No Mercy. He believes the Biker Chain match will be a classic match, which will be discussed years from now. He is interrupted however by Josh Matthews and his greasy fingers, beginning the infamous Byte This ramblings. We have Droz on the phone, and Josh welcomes Dr. Tom back from Louisville, where he visited the OVW developmental territory. More on this later.

Droz gives us his No Mercy picks.

Benoit vs. A-Train – Droz is rooting for Albert, not only because they’re buddies, but because of Benoit’s winning streak during this feud. He believes it’s now time for Albert to step up to the plate. Dr. Tom asks what has been holding Albert back. Droz believes that although his win will be the stepping stone to the big time, the match will be a difficult challenge.

First ever father/daughter I Quit match – Only Vince the genius could have come up with a match like this. Although Vince is the favourite, Droz believes Steph will pull the upset. Josh makes the point that either way; there will be big changes for the industry. Dr. Tom suggests Josh as a replacement for Stephanie McMahon as GM of Smackdown.

Rey Mysterio vs. Tajiri for the Cruiserweight title – Droz picks Rey. It’ll be a stiff match. Dr. Tom says Tajiri has been a force to be reckoned with since his change of attitude – the sneaky eyes are coming back.

John Cena vs. Kurt Angle – Droz picks Cena as he’s on a role. It’s a good time to be a new guy according to Dr. Tom. Cena has made a name for himself but Angle knows what it’s like to be on the winning side.

Eddie Guerrero vs. Big Show for the U.S. Title – Eddie embarrassing Show has only made him angrier. Droz has enjoyed the angle and Big Show’s work. Dr. Tom wants to see Eddie’s creativity in wearing the Big Show down. The bigger you are…

Brock Lesnar vs. ‘Taker in a Biker Chain match. Undertaker has the advantage due to the chain, but it’s going to be a slobberknocker. Dr. Tom provides us with the most useful comment of the night – it’s going to be an ugly match. Rooting for ‘Taker but picking Brock.

Crazy conversation continues and switches to lamination, as Dr. Tom suggests Josh laminates himself, while Josh himself wants a three way. Droz professes his love for Josh, who admits he’s never been on Sports Centre and is able to watch the news show 60 Minutes in twenty through the use of TiVO.

Back to OVW, where Dr. Toms saw some exciting new talent, guys who aren’t intending to only get by on their looks, like Josh.

Talk turns to Steph’s feelings concerning the I Quit match a No Mercy. Vince McMahon invented the term Ruthless Aggression, and Steph shouldn’t expect special treatment from her father. And Josh was beaten as a kid and still an idiot.

Joined on the phone by Tazz, who discusses his new venture into the world of country bluegrass music. His band (called The Announcer’s Blues) includes JR and Michael Cole – who wears a skirt and high heels. Tazz suggests Josh joins and plays the skinflute. The Biker Chain match is going to be messy, as will be proved on Smackdown tomorrow; the Chain leaves marks. Tazz favour’s the challenger. This type of match is right up Lesnar’s street, but it’s a toss up.

Congratulations to Employees of the Month Josh Matthews and Dr. Tom, who has no idea how it happened. Especially as Josh spends all day at his desk sleeping. Thoughts turn to baseball and I’m out, but manage to catch that Josh is a stooge and Tazz is in one of his silent helicopters.

More tech problems – but we return to today’s scheduled programming and discover Josh has two rings on his thumb. Best part of the show as Dr. Tom and Tazz take the piss out of Josh for going jogging with Michael Cole and having an attitude when he should be learning from the veterans. Dr. Tom asks Josh if MC shaved because it tickled when they kissed. Funny stuff. Tazz remembers back to the Smokey Mountain Wrestling days when he was just staring out and Dr. Tom let Tazz jump in the car with him. After a great deal more rambling, Tazz leaves.

Joined by the Undertaker, who is counting down the hours until Sunday. He begins by giving his props to Lesnar. ‘Taker believes he is stronger than he’s ever felt and is ready to give the Champion a long night. He’s still the phenom and the leader of the WWE, but Dr. Tom wonders if there’s anyone else who could step up and fill the Undertaker’s shoes? Maybe Kurt Angle, but ‘Taker’s not looking to go anywhere for a while; there’s going to be a lot of guys getting a wake up call from the Dead Man. It’s never been a better time for the young’uns, with a lot of opportunities – as long as they realise they have to step up their game.

Undertaker has every intention of taking the belt at WrestleMania 20, and believes the road begins at No Mercy where he’ll win the belt. He feels fortunate to have the 11-0 streak; it’s an accomplishment that’ll take a long time for anyone to beat.

Caller Rebecca from Connecticut (6/10) asks about a possible book? ‘Taker believes there have been a lot of wrestling biographies that have been written for the wrong reasons. It would be very interesting, but he doesn’t want to disrespect his fellow wrestlers. Does he see himself going back to the Dead Man Gimmick? Mr Calloway seems to drop into character now, as he says he doesn’t want to, as it would take a series of catastrophic events to change – and he would hate to see that. Also that people wouldn’t be able to deal with the severity of the Dead Man. He’s content with his current situation.

Mitch asks what was going through his mind when he threw Mick Foley off the Hell in a Cell? ‘Taker thought Foley was either dead or crippled, and seemed to have an out of body experience; watching both himself and Foley. Dr. Tom comments that Taker has wrestled through injuries throughout his career. Do the new crop of wrestlers have a bad work ethic? ‘Taker believes that some of the old school work ethic has been lost, but as the wrestlers step up to the plate more; so they learn there’s no easy way out.

Undertaker says he doesn’t actively pursue movie roles, and sees wrestling as his main source of income. Matt from Oklahoma gives props to the Dead Man and asks which of his 11 WrestleMania victories was his favourite. ‘Taker mentions WM 17 in his home town against Triple H, his championship win at WM 13 – although it wasn’t such a good match and his first WrestleMania against Jimmy Snuka.

Onto up and coming stars, with ‘Taker making special reference to A Train, who is as strong as an ox and moves live a cat. Although he’s missing one or two key elements; once he realises that he is a monster he will give a lot of guys long nights. Orlando Jordan – a lot of charisma but it will take him longer to rise to the top. Everyone’s favourite Nathan Jones gets ‘Taker’s props next, as he describes him as charismatic and intimidating. Once he finds his niche in the ring he could be a big name in the WWE.

Both Dr. Tom and the Undertaker pimp Matt Morgan from OVW; another guy who will give guys long nights in the future. ‘Taker doesn’t see himself as an agent although he feels he’s helping the younger talent right now. His final comments on No Mercy are that there are no excuses this time. He’s ready, healthy and hungry for the win. It’ll be a long night for Lesnar.

Welcome to A-Train, who begins with a little history. He played Football for the University of Pittsburgh, where he got a good education. Onto his match with Chris Benoit at No Mercy; he wants to beat the best technical wrestler in the WWE but doesn’t believe that this will be the deciding match tio push him to the next level.

He believes the brand extension is a good opportunity to showcase his talent. He enjoyed his trip to Europe and described the fans as rabid, as they only get to see WWE action maybe once a year.

Justin from Queens with an e-mail. A Train prefers singles to tag team wrestling as the responsibility is on his shoulders. A-Train travels with Rhyno – who tells good ECW war stories. His final comments on his No Mercy match are that it will be a great match from their heart. Both he and Chris Benoit will bring their A Game and their A Train.

Next week’s show is a legend’s show, with Seargant Slaughter, Moolah, and Nikolai Volkov. Josh will try and get a day off.

End of show.

And, apparently, avoid feuds w/ Taker.

I see Taker's been working on his stand-up act. Funny, funny guy.

Hahahahaha! Did Droz say that? If he did, it must have been through gritted teeth.

Well, he is pretty much getting lifetime paychecks from the company, so I'd expect him to say shit like that.

At D-Lo's expense.
