Guest McLeary Report post Posted April 6, 2002 Didn't watch Smackdown, but I had heard Hogan was coming out in the red&yellow, but after reading Scott's description in the Smarkdown rant, I had to see for myself...WOW. That so does not work for him. The Hollywood look with red & yellow colors is just not Hulkamania. I thought Hogan was smarter than this. In WCW, Hogan started a slow face turn in February of '99 took time off to have surgery in April, came back as babyface Hollywood, ran it into the ground, then went full blown red & yellow. Now, he's got red & yellow Hollywood duds, the ridiculous beard, and the flaming boa. That is not the Hulk Hogan the people are cheering for. Face it: it IS nostalgia the people are cheering for, so give it to them or don't, not this half-ass sort-of-but-not-really day-glo Tutti-Fruiti Superpimp thing. Terry, you are a legend and an icon, bar none the the biggest professional wrestler ever, that's not hyperbole, that's a fact. You are also an old, out of touch nostalgia act, and I'm a fan of yours and I'mperfectly comforable with that. Face it, give the people what they really want to see, then move on, don't try to update yourself, because you obviously have no idea how.

Vince McMahon forced him too. He wants to stay as Hollywood, I think he hopes that Vince McMahon asks him to go back to Hollywood. If he's going to go back full red & yellow then I hope that Vince McMahon brings back the real american music.

Guest Shawn Report post Posted April 6, 2002 I still marked out for him and still do, but yeah, he did look kinda fruity... but bringing "Real American" back? Hell no. Hendrix is just fine for me.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Report post Posted April 6, 2002 The Red n Yellow is definetely a mistake. They're cycling through his gimmicks far too quickly if they want to sustain any interest.
Guest RickyB Report post Posted April 6, 2002 EDIT - Oh, you've seen what he looks like. Nevermind then, if you haven't seen them then see the photos on WWF.com, I don't think he looks too bad in the Red & Yellow, but I was hoping for them to leave the Red & Yellow until his last month or so in the WWF when he'd come back out to Real American and go out of the WWF the way he came in. Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted April 6, 2002 Hogan's interview on WWF.com had a segment where he imagined one last face run. He pictured something along the lines of Hollywood Hogan on his knees, asking the crowd to forgive him for being such an asshole, and then the next week coming out in the red & yellow. He basically told the reporter, "Yeah, I could see something like that happening down the road." At this point, Vince McMahon is blowing through storyline and angles even faster than Hogan is. That really says something there.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Report post Posted April 6, 2002 I think Vince sees Hogan as extremely short term and wants to get maximum money out of him before he goes stale. Which is fair enough...I just wonder how Hogan will react when Vince is done with him.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted April 6, 2002 I think it was a good idea to milk the Hulkamania thing, but that boa was too much. I wouldn't mind a short comeback of Real American, maybe they'll use it at the PPV.
Guest Report post Posted April 6, 2002 I would imagine that he'll be back to the full blown Hulkster persona soon enough. I mean, all he needs is to drop the boa, get rid of the ridiculous sideburns, and go back "Real American" as his theme music, since he's already doing the typical baby face Hulk promo. I'd rather he not use Hendrix, actually. I don't want Jimi being wasted on him. Sorry, Hulk fans, just the way I feel. Although I suppose it's better that I hear a few minutes of Voodoo Chile every week as opposed to a few of Rick Derringer.
Guest Report post Posted April 6, 2002 Yeah, might as well go back to "Real American" while the nostaglia is still over with the fans. His red and yellow look just looks so dated, I can't see it lasting long, but who knows, I never thought he would be this over as a face again.
Guest Mole Report post Posted April 6, 2002 How do you guys know that Hogan's popularity will fall so quickly? The fan reaction seems pretty big, and I don't think people will loos interest with him that quickly. But you never know, he could become a parody of himself, if he isn't already. Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted April 6, 2002 They are already starting to lose interest in him. His pops are no longer near what he had around Wrestlemania.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 6, 2002 When i said i didn't want to see Ketchup and Mustard return...this is exactly what i meant. He looks like a total jackass and people will only be able to handle that horrible colour combo for a short time. However i'm not complaining, the sooner Hogan loses the crowd support and is pushed off tv the better.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted April 6, 2002 They are already starting to lose interest in him. His pops are no longer near what he had around Wrestlemania. Well, that was Canada, which not only sort of marks out for Hogan (Keith aside), but also hates Rocky with a passion (again, Keith aside...) This is the same country that chanted for Christian when he was booked against Rock one night. Over here, we have a lot more marks and a lot more people willing to cheer for Rocky when he's shoved down our throats long enough. There aren't people who are loving him simply because he's against Rock (in fact, he's 180d and is with Rock.) I've always been of the opinion that a heel Hogan is "cooler" than a face Hogan, but even heel Hogan was getting some minor face heat in the US. It just simply exploded at WM. And also, WM is a lot Lot LOT bigger than your average SD! show, so of course his pops are going to be smaller.
Guest Shawn Report post Posted April 6, 2002 They probably want him to lose his over-ness so Vince can release him to do horrible movies without the worry of someother promoter scooping Hogan up. Let him go dry and then get someone else...
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted April 6, 2002 They probably want him to lose his over-ness so Vince can release him to do horrible movies without the worry of someother promoter scooping Hogan up. Let him go dry and then get someone else... I think that, whether or not Smarks like him, Hogan could work well in a Commisioner-like role after he officially retires from fighting. I certainly don't think he'll deserve such a huge paycheck then and I don't even think he does now, but Vince should be able to bargain him down when the contract ends seeing he'd be a "retired wrestler" and all. I think it should also be made clear that Vince will still run the show and Hogan's role is strictly kayfaybe. If the fans hated the guy then he would have never been so popular in the 80s to begin with. If his presence brings money, might as well keep it. Just don't subject us to any more of his bad choking and backraking.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 6, 2002 I'd rather have Jake Roberts that Vince pays in crack as a commish over having to hear Hogan's voice for years to come.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 6, 2002 i changed the channel at the first flash of red and yellow. fuck i've just found the one good thing about the raw roster.... no hogan
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted April 6, 2002 I'd rather have Jake Roberts that Vince pays in crack as a commish That really made me laugh. Thanks. The thing is though, there's no $$$ in a Jake Roberts commisionership, and that's what matters right now. They're scrounging up cash however they can and trying to look format as they do it. They're trying all they can to remain at the same huge size as they were a few years ago when people who normally wouldn't care for wrestling were watching. We're going to have to put up with bullshit such as Hogan until they realize being a massive consumer presence isn't profitable anymore and scale back. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 6, 2002 Well i'm glad it did what it was designed to do. Oh i know Jake Roberts wouldn't make them money and i wasn't seriously saying they should bring him in...well unless he got cleaned up. Just using it to get my point across that once Hogan retires from the ring i hope to never eeever see him agane.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Report post Posted April 6, 2002 I can see Hogan sticking around as a commentator or manager, or worst still a booker when he *finally* retires from the ring. Which won't happen until he gets an injury serious enough to stop him.
Guest Report post Posted April 6, 2002 80's kids nostalgia is huge right now, Transformers and GI Joe comics are selling through the roof, stores can't keep them in stock, He-Man is getting new action figures and probably a new TV show, and of course, Hulk Hogan is back. Now, how long do you think it's going to last?
Guest Mystery Eskimo Report post Posted April 6, 2002 He-Man is back? Wow, that's great! *childish excitement*
Guest Nater Report post Posted April 6, 2002 If I were a mark, then this thought would cross through my head: "Wow did hanging out in Hollywood and drinking espressoes and hanging out at oxygen bars make the Hulkamaniac go gay?"
Guest Mystery Eskimo Report post Posted April 6, 2002 now *that* would be a good new gimmick for the Hulk! Would bring a whole new meaning to him running wild on people.

Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted April 6, 2002 Dude, Mossman rules!!!!! OK, the red and yellow was a big mistake. I think Hulkamania should have been saved for his last match EVER and been squashed to kill HUlkamania once and for all while creating a new monster main eventer. My dream is still to hear JR say "By Gawd, Hulkamania is dead" in a tone similar to Mick Foley's last match.
Guest Caliban Report post Posted April 6, 2002 I thought He-Man was the current Undisputed Champion? Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with the yellow and red. Hogan looks even more hilarious at this point, and that's Hogan's role right now in my eyes - to look hilarious.
