Sting question

I'm pretty much uninitiated to WCW, but I have read WCW's entries in the old WrestleCrap site prior to it's death. The old Sting angles show him looking sort of like an ordinary guy with some facepaint, however 90% of the time I've ever seen him in promotional pictures and in screen captures he looks like the forgotten member of KISS.

When did this transition occur and what was the angle behind it? Thanks.

One week before War Games 96, Luger was attacked by a false Sting that ran into the nWo limo.  At war games the false Sting came out, then the real Sting came out to beat the hell out of the nWo, then he abandoned WCW, to let the nWo win.  The next day on Nitro, Sting told the fans to stick it.  Bischoff brings the false Sting in as a replacement, the Real Sting beats his ass, while painted in new colors.  The nWo confronts Sting, and he announces that he is now a Free Agent.

The black & white face paint Sting was based on the character from "The Crow" movie. I belive Scott Hall threw the idea out and it ended up being used.

I liked the old "surfer" Sting much more than the Crow ripoff.  The blond dude was cooler.

Back in 1990, i was 4 and i marked huge for sting. Hell, i even had a frickin rat tail and the same hair as him(except i have brown hair) He was in a commercial for Roos shoes and Starbursts if im not mistaken. Those  commercials can be seen on the commercials in Clash 10.
