What movie posters do you own?

Recommended Posts

Guest areacode212

So, which movie posters do you own, how do you obtain them, and where do you choose to hang them?

The only one I actually *bought* was a Chasing Amy poster from a movie poster store. I have it hanging in my corner of the office right now. About 10 years ago, I got a couple free Back to the Future II & III posters, but they kept falling off my wall, so I just rolled them up and threw them in a closet somewhere.

I had the Secret of the Ooze poster too back in the day.  Also, the Home Alone poster.  The only movie poster I have now is an Office Space poster.  God damn that is a great movie.

I actually have considered buying the poster for the second movie. I suppose it's obvious why:

Could they be a little less subtle as to what's supposed to sell this movie? They're practically hitting you in the face!

I was too embarassed to walk into the store to ask for it, though.

C.H.U.D.-- geez, where do you keep all those posters? On your wall, or do you have one of those hinged frame setups (like they have in record stores)?

i used to work at a movie theater, so i got quite a few posters, many of which i don't have anymore.  (by the way: you can tell if it's a real theatrical poster by looking at the other side of it; if it's a full-color mirror image of the poster it's real, if it's blank it's a fake; the posters they sell at suncoast are a crock.)  but i got lots of fake ones from suncoast too.

Well the "reverse image" on back of poster test only works on movies from within last 8 years or so. Older movies are all single sided. The double sided thing is a recent thing that they started using so that the posters would seem to glow when put in lightboxes.

Eh, all I have is an Akira poster that I won at a special screening of the movie. It's damn cool, but I can't find a frame for it...

I have my favourite ones up on walls, and the rest I store in large plastic bags with cardboard backings. They hold one poster on each side and you can actually hang them on the wall by using pins on the corners, that way the posters stay flat and clean. They are kind of like large comic bags. A poster shop downtown sells them and they come in very handy.

I have an original Ed Wood poster framed and hanging in my livingroom.  I also have a giant Ed Wood banner that hangs in my bedroom.

I've got a Return of the Jedi poster (only Star Wars film I actually like a lot), but that doesn't really count because its not the original movie art.  I also have an ID:4 poster (that great shot of the giant space-ship about to unload on the Chrysler building) that won't stay on my wall (I've tried thumb-tacks, shipping tape rolls on the back of the cardboard its mounted on, it just won't hold... I've already ruined its collectible value if it has any by putting in the thumb-tacks, any suggestions on how to keep it up for the few months I'm still living here?).

I've always wanted to get the posters for Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Metropolis, as well as some of the random cool box art from cheesy old sci-fi/horror flicks (especially monster movies, since it was often the only way to get a good view of the monster ;)), but whenever I get the chance I never have any money (this actually annoys me, I've had the opportunity to buy the poster to one of my favorite films, Chopping Mall, two or three times on eBay, but each time I've been broke and couldn't... being an unemployed teenager sucks... grumble...)

Oh, I also have a McDonald's/Armageddon poster that I won.  It's faded to all hell and I didn't really like the movie, but it's the first (and so far only) thing I've ever won.

And C.H.U.D. is now officially even more my idol than before... dude, if you ever need a pool-boy or random slave labor, I'll sleep in a closet or something and get all my nourishment from your kick-ass DVD and poster collection... seriously though, dude, you rock, and being the materialistic person I secretly am, I wish I had even a tenth of your stuff.

Hehe, thanks. To be honest, even though I love having the poster/DVD collection, the money I have burned on it would make my head explode if I thought about it too much. I don't buy posters anymore (I have all the ones I want), but I still get DVD's now and then (not as many as I used to, as newer releases usually drop in price after 6 months) cuz DVD's are damn addictive. Beware!
