Michrome 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2003 Benoit-Eddy, Rey-Dean, and Kidman-Guerrera are top notch, the rest of that stuff ranges from horribly dissapointing (Cage Match) to "decent" (Juvi-Regal). The '96 and '97 matches are recapped (poorly) by John Petrie and the '98 and '99 matches are recapped by CRZ: LORD STEVEN REGAL vs. JUVENTUD GUERRERA Regal is really too large to work with the cruiserweights. His physical size seemed to make it hard for the two to work together all that effectively. Early in the match they show a shot of Sting sitting high up in the arena. With his whita and black facepaint, he looks a whole lot like the Crow. Also a group of NWO fans march through the arena carrying signs (nothing new there) ans Syxx puts in an appearance as well. Probably the highlight of this match was Regal attempting a powerbomb, but Guerrera reversing it into a flip, which Regal executed 100% on his own a split second too late (it looked like Guerrera fell off, then Regal flipping in place for no reason.) Guerrera then tried what they used to call the "Dis that don't Miss," but missed. (A 450 degree forward flip into a splash off the top.) Regal then applied the "Regal Stretch" (sort of an STF kinda deal) for the submission win. EDDY GUERRERO vs. CHRIS BENOIT (w/ Woman) Both guys are pretty well banged up, so I didn't expect much of a match. Then they cut to a commercial break, which made things look even worse. Fortunately they didn't start until after the break. Unfortunately it didn't matter all that much as very little happened in this one. Eric Bischoff announces that Hulk Hogan has demended some time and that we will see him later in the show responding to his confrontation with Piper. Then Mongo and Debra McMichael come to ringside to keep an eye on things. They also play pretaped comments from Jimmy Hart and Kevin Sullivan. Buried somewhere amongst all this is a brief mention that Randy Savage won't be on the show as had been advertised. Finish goes down as such: Woman distracts Nick Patrick. Mongo knocks out Guerrero with the briefcase. Benoit gets the pin. REY MYSTERIO, JR. vs. DEAN MALENKO Raven and his flock (Stevie Richards, Perry Saturn, Billy Kidman and Sick Boy-the Power Plant scrub) are shown taking their seats at ringside. Raven will apparently wrestle later in the show. Good match with an even better finish. Malenko really has Rey's number, nailing him with a gutbuster off the turnbuckles. (Malenko has him up on his shoulders, throws him up in the air and catches him across his knee: all this off the second turnbuckle). Rey then recovers enough to try a huracanrana off the ropes, but Malenko reverses it into a powerbomb. Dean then wraps him up, intent on applying the Texas Cloverleaf. He grabs the legs and starts his turn when Rey shifts his weight and tucks Dean into a small package for the pin. EDDIE GUERRERO vs. CHRIS JERICHO I figured Jericho would be in a rematch tonight with Gedo. Apparently WCW flew Gedo all the way in from Japan just to job him to Jericho. They show a move from their match in which Jericho nearly breaks his neck coming off the top with Gedo. Eddie wins in a match which was good, but pretty much forgettable about five minutes after it was over. The finish saw Jericho suplex Eddie out of the ring. Eddie landed on his feet, ran up the corner and nailed Jericho with the Frog Splash. FIT FINLEY vs. CHRIS BENOIT I thought it used to be "Finlay"? Finley is also known as the Belfast Bruiser. WCW throws a small bone to the Benoit marks, giving him the win with a headbutt off the top. (perry) SATURN v. LWO EDDIE GUERRERO - if Eddie were really all into the raza thing, he'd get WCW to spell his first name "Eddy." Okay, I'll say it. That vest of Saturn's is REALLY - well, in pig Latin, they would say "aygay." You realise it's been about 24 minutes since we've had some wrestling? Lockup, into a waistlock by Saturn. Eddie counters with an arm wringer and Saturn hits the mat. Armbar continues. Saturn with a belly-to-belly suplex to break that hold. "Eddie sucks" chant, much to Eddie's dismay. Lockup, headlock, they run the ropes and Saturn hits a shoulderblock. Guerrero complains of a hair pull. Nice dropkcick to the knees by Eddie. Big-time stomping on the knees, Eddie goes outside and hits his trademark flying somersault headbutt on the knee (I have missed that move). Guerrero back to the outside, where he pulls the knee against the bottom rope and jumps to the floor. Back in, forearm smash. Chop (woooo!) Right hand. Whip into the ropes, belly-to-belly suplex by Saturn. Again Eddie dropkicks the knee after Saturn stops to gingerly move. Whip, reverse, but as Saturn holds onto Eddie high up for the military press, Eddie holds on and there's an armdrag. Tilt-a-whirl backbreaker by Eddie for 2. Whip, reverse, flapjack by Saturn for 2. Whip into the corner but Eddie puts up an elbow to stop Saturn. Tornado DDT attempt is reversed into a slam with a bridge by Saturn for 2. Vertical suplex attempt is reversed into a - I don't know, let's say reverse victory roll for 2. Dueling attempts ends with Saturn hitting a T-bone Tazplex for 2. Someone told me that this wasn't a Michinoku Driver, it was a Falcon Arrow, so let me call that right. Falcon Arrow. Saturn motions for the Spicolli Driver but DAMIEN and HECTOR GARZA are in to cause the DQ - hmm, is THAT was the LWO is about? Imitating the NWO? Guerrero tells Saturn he can kiss it as Garza and Damien hold him. Eddie comes off the ropes, Saturn ducks and back body drops Guerrero over the top rope to the floor. Saturn has no problems with Garza and Damien because they're jobbers. Those are some nice overhead suplexes, though. Here's EL DANDY, here's PSYCHOSIS, no problem. LA PARKA is out. Here's another guy we don't recognise - DIABLO MIO! ESTA ES CARLOS SANTANA! Well, maybe not. But whoever it is hits a nice brainbuster, followed up by Eddie's frog splash. If I didn't know better (and I don't), I'd say it was a Guerrero relative I haven't met yet. NEVER SURRENDER JUVENTUD GUERRERA v. KIDMAN for the World Cruiserweight Championship - what seems fair to you, that Disco Inferno has to beat Juventud Guerrera in order to get a title shot ON THE SAME NIGHT, or that Juventud Guerrera has to get beaten by Disco Inferno in order to get a title shot THE NEXT DAY? This is match #1824723 in that exciting series between these two folks. Staredown and Juvi pushes him, which amuses Kidman. Lockup, gobehind by Juvi, reverse, reverse, reverse, reverse, I guess you had to be there. Kidman , no reverse, leapfrog, over we go, reverse, reverse, Guerrera with a flying head scissors. Finally some action! Kidman tries to dump him over the rope but Juvi gives him ten heads to the turnbuckle while standing on the apron. Juvi on the top rope - Kidman hits him in the thigh and climbs to the top. But no superplex - Juventud pushes him off. Top rope flying head scissors for 2! Chop (woooo!) Vertical suplex for 2. To the rear chinlock, whew. Kidman hasn't hit anything yet. Whip, reverse, Juvi goes up and catches him in a rollup for 2. Kidman FINALLY hits a move - belly-to-back into a slam. Dueling hiptosses - Juventud with a Rocker dropper. 1, 2, no. Whip, reverse, flying head scissors - no Kidman stops him and throws him over his head powerbomb style. 1, 2, no. Heenan gives a shout out to Mark Curtis. Again Kidman tries the same move, but Juventud turns it into a bulldog for 2. Juventud climbs to the top, Kidman is up - plancha for 2. Juventud climbs the ropes again, but this time Kidman puts up a dropkick on Guerrera's way down. And now Kidman is going to fly - no, Guerrera crotches him on the turnbuckle. Top rope huracanrana - 1, 2, no! Powerbomb attempt countered by Kidman into a Tigerbomb (or is it a Ligerbomb? I forgot. Kidman to the top - SHOOTING STAR PRESS! 1, 2, 3 (5:55) Good for him. CHRIS BENOIT v. DEAN MALENKO (no entrance) within the confines of the STEEL cage in a first round tourney match (Group 3) - UK readers, be sure to check out Nitro on TNT and Worldwide on Channel 5 for news of appearance by Hall & Nash! Feel free to KEEP them, too! Malenko attacks Benoit as he enters the cage and stays on him even before the cage can be locked. Third man is Nick Patrick. Malenko still on top of things. Into the ropes, Benoit off with a kick. Powerbomb is amplified by the fact that at the apex, Malenko's head runs into the cage wall. 1, 2, no. Benoit with the knife-edge chop, and again. Eyepoke from Malenko. Malenko tries to climb the wall, but Benoit crotches him on the top rope - dropkick to Malenko. Right takes him to the mat. Knife-edge chop. Right. Malenko begs off but Benoit kicks and stomps away. Into the ropes, 5.5 2.7 Malenko holds on and the dropkick finds nothing. Malenko catapults Benoit into the cage. Malenko to the head - off the ropes, run into the cage, another battering ram. Piledriver attempt is countered into a piledriver from abenoit. Patrick puts on the count - at 3, Benoit is up. Will he do another headbutt from the top of the cage? Malenko is up -and on the top turnbuckle as Benoit is on the cage - SUPERPLEX! PERRY SATURN is up now - scaling the cage - he's got a chain for Malenko but Benoit pushes Malenko into the cage wall, taking Saturn down and securing the chain for himself! Off the ropes, chained fist! Benoit to the top of the cage - HERE IT IS!! FLYING HEADBUTT!!! 1, 2, 3! (4:29) But it isn't over - Saturn from the top with an elbowdrop (missed by the camerman - ugh) - SHANE DOUGLAS and ASYA are out. Whip into the cast of Douglass. Asya got him by the hair for a high knee from Douglas. Chokehold by Asya. Douglas and Saturn handcuff Benoit to the cage and top rope - Malenk joining the beatdown now - Patrick shoved aside. Now RAYMOND STEREO is out. Here's the rest of the FILTHY ANIMALS. Asya manages to level Mysterio - Saturn takes the rest of them down. The tide is turned, but before Rey can hit a broncobuster on Asya, here's DAVID SAMMARTINO - ERR, FLAIR with the crowbar on Mysterio. There's a shot for Guerrero. Big-time shots for Kidman now. He's got the rage in his eyes. Will he take out Benoit? No, he picks up the key and frees Benoit.
