Guest Report post Posted May 18, 2002 I just finished a very intense game of NHL 2k2. It was game 7 of the opening roung of the playoffs. My team the Flames vs The Stars (with drafted rosters). Both goalies were impossible to beat until the second overtime when my created player blasts a slapshot top corner to win 1-0.
Guest papacita Report post Posted May 24, 2002 About a month ago playing NBA Live 2K2 I was the Sixers playing the Magic. I was playing on hard, so I played 12 minute quaters (cuz I swear to God, if that game had an ass, it would cheat it off). Anyway...think of the most one-sided NBA game you can remember...and it has nothing on the 1st half of this game. The 1st quarter, I think the score was like 30-4 Magic and I could barely make a shot. It was ridiculous, Matt Geiger and Mutumbo would be right under the basket trying to make a shot, wide open and miss the damn shot. Eric Snow airballed a damn layup for God's sake (I HATE THAT GAME!). Anyway, in the 2nd period, I finally started to make a bunch of stops, and we went on a little run, but were still down like 15 at halftime. 3rd quarter, I was able to bring it within 5 thanks to a bunch of fast breaks, and kept going in the 4th, but was never able to take the lead. Finally, with like a minute left, Sixers were down by 4. With like 40 seconds left, we brought it within 2, they got control of the ball, missed a 3 and got like 3 offensive rebounds in a row and was never able to score. So there are 5 seconds left, Mutumbo or Geiger grabbed the rebound and lob it down half court to Iverson, who makes the one and only 3 for the Sixers to win the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 2, 2002 I had a memorable game in NBA 2K1 a couple of days ago. A friend of mine cam eover to use my washing machine and we were playing video games to kill the time. He was the Nuggets and I was the Wizards. I usually kick his ass every time out, but this particular game he was hanging around. The game was tied as the 2nd quarter neared its completion. I made a steal and buried a three. I made another steal and buried another three. I stopped him on defense and went back down court and hit another three. I made 4 threes in a row to go up by 12 at halftime and I ended up blowing him out again. It was one of those games that you would just have to see. You could see exactly where the momentum left him and stayed with me.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 8, 2002 My friend came over to use the washing machine again and we played NBA 2K1 again. I was normal dominant self in a couple of games so we decided to play a new game, NCAA 2K2 because I told him anything can happen in that game. We played our first game with me being UNC and him being Wisconsin. He took an early 8-0 lead from a batted down pass that ended up becoming an TD for him. I came back and started running up the score. He eventually got back into the game and went on a long drive to take a 4 point ead with a minute left. I took over, but ended up having a pass batted down and intercepted. We played again as Nebraska and he was Kansas State. I avenged my loss by shutting him out. In the next game, I was ASU and he was Oregon. I took a big gamble in the beginning of the game and failed, so I took over on downs well within FG range. I converted a FG and ended up returning a later kick return for a TD. I had a 10 point lead, but I was getting my ass kicked. Offensively, I couldn't do shit but i was able to keep the game close. I was trailing by four at halftime, but he ended up running away from me. The final game we played saw me take UNC again and face his Oregon team that dominated me. I called a brilliant defensive game and avenged my loss, 35-0.
Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted June 11, 2002 Well, I just had a memorable one in NBA Live 2002. I decided to go Franchise mode with the Sacramento Kings because I am still kinda pissed they lost Game 7. So, I roll through my first few games, easily beating Seattle, Indiana, and Orlando. I figure that I now have to face the Lakers, and since starter mode seems easy that I would test out how I do against them to see if I have to move up a difficulty level. I figured I was in for an easy time, and I was wrong. The game started off pretty average with the game tied after one quarter. Near the end of the 2nd quarter, they and I both brought in our backups, and my backups took theirs to school, giving me a 51-43(I think) lead at halftime. Things continued going my way, as I was up 55-43 early on in the third quarter, then my team fell apart. My team looked terrible, and the Lakers caught right back up, even took the lead, going up by 5 at the start of the 4th. I pressed on, not wanting to be outclassed by the Lakers, and finally deciding to go with the simplest solution for getting points(give the ball to Chris Webber.) He had been held to 8 points in the second and third quarters, thus why I was doing so bad. I catch up a bit, then Webber and Shaq proceed to put on a shooting exhibition, as they just kept matching each other shot for shot. Finally, they make a mistake, as Derek Fisher only makes one of two free throws, and Webber make them pay, as he jams it home to tie it. He and I both took separate gambles at this point, as I gave Divac some rest, and he gave Kobe some rest. My gamble paid off more as Divac was able to help get some shots, while Kobe did nothing memorable. Finally, I gained the big play I needed, as Mike Bibby stole the ball, and put it for two, giving me the lead, that lasted until it was 95-93, late in the game. Shaq has the ball, he hands it to...Rick Fox, and Fox hits the Clutch three of doom to put the Lakers up 96-95. Thankfully, the game is an idiot because it was pretty obvious that Webber is getting the ball, he had 34 points at that point, and practically carried the offense through the game. He gets the ball with 20 seconds left, I wear out some clock, charge the basket, and get a dunk with 3.8 seconds left. They decide to go for the last minute desperation shot, since I believe they were out of time outs at that point, it misses, and I escape with a 97-96 win. Shaq lit me up for 44 points and 8 rebounds, while Webber had 36 points and 8 rebounds. Toughest game I played in awhile, but I am glad to have beaten the Lakers. Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted June 12, 2002 I was playing NHL 2002 for the X-Box last night, and boy this was ever close. On the all-star level I was Montreal and I was up against Toronto in the Conferance finals. I was down 3-1 with 3:08 left in the game, at game 3, and the series was tied. Koivu gets a penalty for roughing and I'm down. Toronto wins the face off in my zone, as Cross wires one from the point, nothing but Iron. The puck rolls out of the zone, as Toronto makes a line change. Cujo plays the puck to Yuschevich, Gilmour nails Dmitri down and its a two on one. Gilmour passes to Berezin, passes back to Gilmour and into the back of the net. 3-2 with 2:31 left. On the powerplay still. Toronto keeps the pressure on. Berg passes the puck to Sundin...wide open net. Breisbois blocks the shot.1:43 left, Toronto gets a penalty for goaltender interferance (Domi). 4-4 hockey for 30 seconds. Toronto keeps the pressure on though, but Hackett (Theodore was injured) kept me in the game. Rivet clears the puck out of the zone, Koivu steps out of the box and he breaks in, deak to the left and the right, TOP CORNER! 3-3 with 56 seconds. Overtime 5 minutes in: Toronto gets a goal called back for interferance. 7 minutes in: Gilmour and Domi fight. Both get Misconducts. 10 minutes in: Tucker rings one off the post. 12 minutes in: Montreal's first shot 13 minutes in: Rivet scores the game winner from the side of the net. Guest papacita Report post Posted June 15, 2002 Another great game in NBA Live. Yesterday, I was playing as the Sixers again Vs the Lakers. I played them the other day and for some reason they were just kicking my ass (they beat me 4 straight games and I almost NEVER lose at NBA Live games). So I played them yesterday to make sure I hadn't lost my touch. 1st quarter we dominated them. A.I. was on and went 3/3 from the 3 point line, and Geiger and Mutombo couldn't be stopped in the paint. We were up by 8. The 2nd quarter was pretty much the same. 3rd quarter was when the trouble started. For some reason, Iverson just decided to go dry from beyond the 3 point line, and Shaq was dominating us. Rick Fox and Derick Fisher also hit a 3 or 2, and it was tied going into the 4th. So the 4th quarter was back and forth. Lakers looked like they had us at the start, but we were able to make a few stops, and then they started fouling. Geiger goes to the line twice, goes 1/2 both times. I accidentally killed Fisher when he was going for a 3 AND HE MADE THE SHOT. Couldn't get the conversion though. We were tied at 47 with like 5 seconds left to play, and Sixers had the ball, so I'm thinking get the ball to Iverson. And I did...he crosses Kobe, drives to the basket and gets his shot blocked by Shaq. The ball goes out of bounds, and time expired when we inbounded, so we go to OVERTIME! Overtime, we got the tip, but it was back and forth again. Came down to free throws once again, but again, it remained tied and we had the final possession. Couldn't get the ball to Iverson, so I gave it to Eric Snow, put up a brick and Geiger tips it in...AFTER THE BUZZER!!!!!!!!!! Double OT! This time we went on a run thanks to George Lynch and A.I. End score was 65-59 Sixers. A.I. had high score (35) followed by Shaq (34). Then right after that I destroyed the Lakers with the Nets.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 19, 2002 My friend that was coming over to wash his clothes is going to stay with my roommates and I this summer, and he started moving in last night. The night before, we played NCAA2K2 a few times and it seems like we have a rivalry going. We first started playing the game because I was kicking his ass at NBA 2K1, so I found a game that he might be able to beat me in. I told him that anything could happen and we proved that in our first game. Since then, I have been picking UNC and giving him fits with great defensive games and big scrambles from my QB. On Sunday, he was LSU and I was UNC in the first game we played. He was beating me 7-6 as the first half ended, but the ture story was the fact that I was driving down the field and ran out of time at the end of the half. In the second half, it seemed like my players had been given a pep talk, and I ended up crushing him. I had never rushed for over 50 yards with a running back against him, but in the second half alone, I ended up going for 100 yards. I also shut him out in the second half, which looked like it hurt his feelings. We played a couple more games, and the result was the same. The game would be close at halftime, but I would come out thundering in the second half. We played again because he wanted a chance to redeem himself. In this game, the exact opposite of what happened in our first game happened. He was driving down the field at the end of the half, but time ran out on him. The score was 7-6 in my favor, and we both pointed out the irony of the situation as the second half started. After a lot of action, I ended up having to play my first ever overtime game. He won the coin toss and decided to take the ball. He ended up scoring and just barely getting a two point conversion. I took the ball and pulled out some magnificent plays, and faced a first and goal. I couldn't score and ended up losing the game because I couldn't produce any more spectacular plays. That was one of the most tense video games I had ever played before. After that tough loss, I have been kicking his ass in the game. I have a 5 game winning streak and I am still winnning in the same fashion: keeping it somewhat close in the first half, then making shutting him down in the second half as my running game wears him down. I think I might have to retire UNC if I want to continue playing the game against him.

Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted June 20, 2002 Hey, it may not be sports, but this was down to the wire! WWF No Mercy, 30 minute IronMan Match. CAW Mike Sanders (me) vs CAW Sean O'Haire. With 3 minutes left, the score is 10 pinfalls to 6, with O'Haire up. I just went AT IT, going for the pinfall after every move. O'Haire was already selling the leg, so I'd work on it, and get a pin. Its finally 10-10 with 5 seconds left and I'm special! I go for the Strong Grapple, he swats my hands away, punches me, I reverse into Sander's special, the Chicken Wing Neckbreaker and go for the pin. The clock: 0:03 1.... 0:02 2... 0:01 3!!! Final score, Sanders 11-O'Haire 10 with the best comeback EVER. Dames
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 22, 2002 I had a game like that one time, I think it was during the road to the IC title and I had to beat Chyna in less than three minutes. I got the fall at 2:59. My game didn't end in such a spectacular fashion as yours did though. I added another chapter in my dominance at NCAA2K2 last night. My friend and I played a game before we went to bed. I was UNC and he was Oregon again. When the game started, I was a little leary because I know he has been thinking of ways to beat me and I have a winning streak against him that has pretty much been sustained in the same fashion every game. Close game at halftime, I whip his ass in the second half. He looked like he might get the better of me as he did before the streak started because he started the game doing pretty well. He almost took the opening kickoff to the endzone, but I stopped him and forced him to use his offense. He did an admirable job of finding matchups and exploiting them while I cursed my defensive backs for giving up their position and allowing the receivers to catch the ball. He scored on the opening drive and took a 7-0 lead. He stifled me on my next drive, and could have had a chance to dictate the flow of the game on his ensuing possesion, but I was able to stop him at my 17 yard line. I took the ball and drove down the field for the score, trying not to fall behind and have to rely on second half magic again. He took the ball and marched down the filed yet again, but I stopped him one more time by picking him off in the endzone. I got a decent return from the interception, but I was stopped with no one left to beat. I got myself into position to score, but he picked me off and took the interception all the way for a TD. I was very frustrated as I took the kickoff, but I wasn't able to score on the return, so I had to let the clock expire. He was able to end the second half with a 7 point lead. The second half started and I was determined to maintain my dominance as UNC, so I marched down the field with a mix of power running, imaginative scrambles and quick strike over the middle to my tight end for a long gain. I scored on the next play with a run up themiddle, and got comfortable with the score tied up at 14 all. The pressure was on him to score and stave off another second half collapse, but I was able to prevent him from scoring. I took the ball knowing that I would strip him of his confidence if I could score, and I did just that, improvising on a halfback screnn play. I rolled towards the blockers, who created an impenetrable shield as I scampered 60 yards. As soon as I got to the endzone, I found out that a clipiing penalty had occured on the play and the play would be called back. Facing a 1st and 25, I ran for 12 yards on first down, passed for 8 more on second down and called the same play that I had scored on before with similar results. My QB scored again, but it wasn't called back this time. After that drive, I shut him out and ran up the score. First Half score: 14-7. Final Score: 42-14, a 35 point difference in the second half. My running back rushed for over a hundred yards in the second half alone as I rolled to another victory. These games may not seem like a big deal, but they usually are until the I head into the fourth quarter with the lead. One day, he might beat me and these games will make the win that much better. Until he can keep me from dominating him in the second half, that won't happen.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 24, 2002 I'm playing in Franchise mode in NBA 2k1. My team is Mike Bibby, Vince Carter, Wally Zrbiack, Ben Wallace and Theo Ratliff. The only player on my bench wortha damn is Peja Stoiakavic. He gets help from Hubert Davis, and Jamie Feik but thats it. So I am playing the Sonics(the resident powerhouses in this frachise mode). We start the game, Reggie Miller gets 2 4 point plays on Vince carter so he has to sit. Then Alonzo morning goes for a jam on Wallace. He blocks it but hurts his hand for 3 quarters. The score is like 15-3 now. Wally can't hit anything, Bibby gets in foul trouble(all bullshit calls) and Ratliff gets hurt for 2 quarters(in the second) Vince stays on the court maybe 3-4 seconds at a time before he picks up another foul. So we enter teh 4th, down 27 pts, and the sub horn rings. In steps all 5 of my starters...IT IS ON. Wally Z(who is 5-20 in 3's right now) proceeds to knok down 10 3's in teh forth!!!!, Vince hits 4, Bibby hits 6....all in the fourth. If they missed, Wallace and Ratliff were there for the rebound and put back. On the other end, Miller and this Point guard(one of the computers made up players from the draft) were HOT, Hitting everything they shot if it weren't blocked by Vince(6 blocks in the 4th) or stolen by Bibby(5 steals in the fourth). We tie it up, and Vince blocks a miller 3 at the end of regulation. We go to over time, and it is a stalemate. Everyone has cooled off. Vince Gets a block on the PGS layup, it goes off the back board to miller for the 3...and the foul. Vince fouls out!!! I put Peja at the 2 guard for him and we are down 4 with 15 seconds left. I get the ball to Wallace for a fast dunk. Miller hits 2 free throws. I go back to wallace who hits the shot with 2.7 left and the foul. I miss the free throw, Ratliff with the board, out to Bibby for the 20 footer to send it to Double OT!! Its the end of double OT. Score tied. the PG gets by bibby with like 10 seconds left. I chase him and SWAT the shot with BIBBY(his first block of the year) off the back board...but it goes to a wide open Miller who is a few steps behind the 3. As he steps in, he stops for the 3, only i've been sprinting out with Bibby the whole time, I swipe for the ball, and it knocks free, Bibby gets it, wide open on the break, 1.7 seconds left, I stop and pop, and hit the 3 to win the game. I was squealing like a little woman at this point...then I turned to see the female friend that hat come to pick me up to go some where laughing at how I got into the game and forgot all about her. She said the game was enjoyable so she wasn't too mad.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 24, 2002 If you want to kick ass at NBA 2K1, try using full court pressure and swatting the ball when the ballhandler tries to pass it. I usually beat the CPU by 30+ points with very stingy defense. No one has beaten me in NBA 2K1 yet.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 24, 2002 Yeah, I can, but it get boring when I do that and you don't get any steals for it. I can blow them out all the time, unless they are blatantly cheating...and the 2k games CAN cheat. Like, when I block the Miller shot off the backboard to miller, there was no way he was in posistion to catch it...but they needed a 3. I also hate how the CPU will get position under the basket, step back a little then come slamming into you getting a foul EVERY TIME. For the most part, I am god in that game...I am too, yet to lose. I usually unload on human opponents and unleash the deadly 3 point, post up one two punch. I shoot about 72% from the field in the season...I don't take bad shots. Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 24, 2002 I have never been a great three point shooter, but I can hit them when I need them. I just rack up dunks and layups instead. If you aren't getting any steals by using the full court press method, you can also try making the CPU throw the ball out of bounds. If you can't deflect the pass with the guy defending the ballhandler, you can switch to the man guarding who he's going to pass to. When the CPU makes the long pass downcourt, you can prevent the guy from catching the pass by standing in his way and jumping. That usually leads to a steal or pass out of bounds. I also got pretty good at drawing charging fouls.
Guest O.J. Hart Report post Posted June 25, 2002 I have a few great sports games moments. On No Mercy, I was the Rock facing the British Bulldog(RIP) and figured I'd squash him in under 2 minutes. I was wrong. He beat the crap out of me and in 2:35 he got a power slam on me, he did it on a sledge hammer, and I kicked out at 2. Then it was all rocky style from there. I nailed the Rock Bottom, but he was "on the ropes". So, I nailed him wih an AWESOME running chair shot and he took an AWESOME bump and I got the win in 6:19. I have some more i can post, but i have to eat right now.
Guest Rabbi_wilson13 Report post Posted June 25, 2002 We were having a party and we got a game of "No Mercy" Royal Rumble set up, with you giving up your controller as you're eliminated. Well, I start off with my create-a-wrestler and I'm rolling. I'm not even out on the apron yet with about 10 people gone. It starts winding down, and I'm still chugging along, with a close call or two where I'd be out on the apron and somebody would attack the person ready to knock me off from behind accidentally and saving my ass. After about 20 minutes, its me against my friends, who are Cactus Jack and Brisco. I knock Brisco out and Jack actually hits me with the old A+B your own special (Gansobuster). He stands me up, whips me towards the ropes and somehow I reverse it. I charge over, knock Jack out onto the apron...and Brisco drags me out of the ring. I didn't even see him. I lasted 28 guys but I was cost my chance at greatness by Brisco. That was a great game. A couple weeks ago me and my friend were playing Arcade mode on Kobe Bryant. I just dominate on that game. He insists on playing as the Bulls with Chandler, Curry and Marcus Fizer and I go as the Mavericks because of the Finley/Dirk/Nash threesome. Usually it isn't close, but we were at school playing on one of the last days and we have a nice crowd going. We're tied at the end of 1, but I start lighting him up, hit a 6-pointer and its a 12 point game at the half. At the end of three its roughly the same score. But then the 4th comes. And he realizes the concept of pump-faking. Dirk is flying out of bonds and slowly but surely with the dunks the momentum meter is kicking and he gets up by 2! Time's ticking down and I go for the kill, popping a 3 that rims out. I figure "I'm done" because he has Chandler and Curry in there rebounding. Well, the kiddies don't box and Dirk tip slams it to send it into OT! I got the timing of his pump-faking down and OT was a massacre for the Mavs, but it was one of most fun games I've ever played. Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 26, 2002 Yeah, in 2K1 you can always do stuff like the jump in front of the guy going for the ball, but once again, I hate playing cheap. The secret of the 3 in that game is the cross over. With guys that can't dribble that well that just have that quick crossover move(which I like better) you can just dribble sidways with the ball away from the hoop and hit the cross over button. You get like 3 feet of space right there. Just pull up for the 3(a fade away actually increases you chances) and you have a wide open look. Good shooters will hit this most of the times. WIth good handlers, just get by the guy and shoot as soon as you are right beside him. My teams light it UP from 3.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted June 28, 2002 On NBA 2K2, I (Minnesota) was facing the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs. We split Games 1 and 2, with both going down to the wire, but Game 3 was ridiculous. As usual with 2K2, I kept a 7-10 point lead for the first half, but the computer came back to get a lead. So I had to rally in the fourth quarter, and eventually took a six-point lead with like 30 seconds left. But of course, the Lakers hit two straight threes (with Derek Fisher, of all people) and stop me on offense before getting another basket to take a two-point lead with 1.6 seconds left. So after unsuccessfully looking for either Kevin Garnett or Chauncy Billups (who had lit up Kobe for 25) I just barely get the inbounds to Wally Sczerbiak (who had made 3 out of 15 so far), who hits a leaning jumper at the buzzer. Did I mention that this game was ridciulously high-scoring? After I pulled it out in overtime, the score was 167-164. But this particular game gave me plenty to complain about concerning the NBA 2K2 game as a whole. For one, I hate how the computer all of a sudden can't miss when they need some shots, and how their D gets three times better. And although he'd been playing low post all game, my Kevin Garnett inexplicably camps out by the three-point line in crunch time, so I have a hard time getting him a good shot. And I also hate how the computer draws the wussiest fouls in the world but won't give me a call. I'll be standing under the hoop outside of the circle but can't get a charge when they bowl me over. And then when Shaq or Kobe goes up for a dunk, one of my guys just hits them on the hip or something for no reason other than to give the CPU three points instead of two. I'm getting a lot better, but that game can really piss me off.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 28, 2002 I played 2K2 and it just felt too awkward to me. Maybe because I got so used to 2K and 2K1, but the player movements, shots, ball handling and everything felt too weird. I just stick with 2K1(although I do hate how all of the rookies are gods of the sport on that game.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted June 28, 2002 Yeah, I hate that too. For some reason they rate them as compared to college players, without realizing that the NBA is a lot harder. For example, Eddy Curry may rate as a 90 in rebounding in high school, but in the NBA that'd drop to like 70. But in the game he gets a 90.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted June 30, 2002 I agree with all of you, Tecmo Super Bowl on NES is one of the greatest games ever. I'm on NHL2K2 right now with the Senators, (undefeated, including playoffs, at 90-0-0-0, I'm in the ECF right now against New Jersey). I played Montreal in the first round, and my Alfredsson/White/McEachern line got shut down. Scoreless through two and a half. With about 3 minutes left, Koivu puts one past Lalime, and I'm down 1-0. I pull Lalime with 3 minutes left, and put it on "overload" offence. A steal by Rivet...Rivet in all alone, Marion Hossa comes from behind him, and just as Rivet's about to shoot, lays down and blocks the shot, it goes into the corner, where Redden goes, hits a pass to Arvedsson, touch pass to Bonk on a 1-1. Deke, deke, high glove. Tie game. I won in 2OT. Awesome game.

Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 30, 2002 After routinely running up the score in NBA 2K1 on my friend, he got me to switch over to NBA Live for the PC. He was saying, "You have to play Live! I can beat you in Live!" Well, he finally finished moving and and brought his computer with him, so we played Live. The first game we played, I managed to keep close while I learned the game, but he kicked my ass in the rest of them. I played a couple of games agains the CPU so that I could further learn the game. Yesterday, we went with one of my other rooomates to play basketball. We played all day and came back home, and everybody was sitting around. I saw him playing NBA Live as the Magic against the Knicks and I figured, "You know what? I can beat him!" I asked him to let me join in as the Knicks, and I proceeded to notch my first win against him. I played tough defense and brilliant offense to stake a 25 point lead going into the fourth quarter. He came back on me, but I ended up winning the game anyway. At that point, my roommates and I were supposed to be going somewhere, so we didn't have time for a rematch. We got home and had the rematch, which I won, but I ended up losing the next game. I scored 98 points with Sprewell, but it seems like a lot of B.S. inexplicably happens in that game. He decided to play against me as his favorite team, the Trailblazers while I stayed with the Knicks. As someone used to playing the NBA 2K series, I found it kind of awkward watching him get dunk after dunk with everybody on his team, while my team would only shoot leaners around the basket. After having enough, I decided to run with the Lakers so that I could beat his best team. I lost the first three games, watching Shaq sit on the bench with a ton of fouls each time. In the second game, I had Robert Horry gone with six fouls by the early minutes of the third quarter. He had three fouls, but he was called for an offensive foul, and went down the court and immediately picked up another one. The last foul that he got didn;t even look like he was near the ball, but that happens. We played a tight game, but I found myself down three with 7 seconds left. After having trouble getting Derek Fisher open for a three, I got Rick Fox wide open and he missed. His 88 three point rating meant nothing with the game on the line. I lost the next game when what seemingly was a problem with the controller occurred. I had been having problems with people not shooting the ball when I pressed shoot in alot of the games we played, and it cost me a game. I took the ball with Kobe Bryant with 2.7 seconds remaining. I shook free, but couldn't get him to shoot the ball when I pressed the button. I pressed it again and hit the shot, but it didn't count because time had run out. In the last game we played, I finally won because Shaq was in foul trouble the whole game, which made me go to Kobe alot. Instead of going to Shaq when I got him back in, I just kept doing what I had been doing the whole game with Shaq getting dunks here and there. I ended up making some great shots down the stretch and even took the lead with four seconds left on a Kobe Bryant drive down the lane. I stopped him on his next possesion and beat his beloved Blazers.
Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted June 30, 2002 Well, I had a few good games in some soccer game I was playing the other day. I decided that since South Korea lost to Germany that I would take out any frustration from that loss out on a good old soccer video game I had. Of course, I picked South Korea. I had to start by qualifying for the World Cup, so I had to go through the crappy Asian teams. I had no problems with winning there, except in my last game of the first round of qualifying. I had already locked up my spot in the next round, but I wanted to get the game down again and I had to face Hong Kong. I started off great, lighting them up for 3 goals. I figured I was in for an easy time, but, in the second half, they ended up tying it at 3. It went into injury time, so I scrambled, and right before time ended, I scored, winning the game with a Golden Goal which shocked me since I did not think I could do it. I went to the next round. The next round was easy, as I went through Qatar and, I believe, Malaysia, with ease. Though I had to face Indonesia. In the 60th minute, I went up 2-0. I figured I would go into defensive mode, and just watch the time go off the clock, but I made a bad pass, and they scored. No problem, I am still winning 2-1, but in the extra time, they scored again, ending the game in a tie. Luckily for me, I had a game against Iran next in a must win for me. Well, not exactly a must win, as I had advanced to the next round anyway, but if I beat Iran then I get to the World Cup without having to play some other team or, if I lost there, New Zealand. I figured Iran was the easiest of the bunch, and I was right. I did not let up on Iran, as I punched in 4 goals immediately. I was not going to let Qatar advance ahead of me, especially because I beat them 5-0. Iran pretty much threw in the towel early though, as they went down 4-0 in the game, and I advanced to the World Cup, which I have yet to play.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted July 2, 2002 I was playing NBA Live again with my roommate and things got interesting. He was the Mavericks (his other best team) and I was the Lakers. The game was a pretty good one because I managed to come back from a double digit deficit and finally take the lead with a little over a minute left in the game. Towards the end, we were matching each other by getting three pointers and three point plays. He ended up getting lucky when Shaq fouled out with the game tied and Dirk Nowitski got a four point play on the next trip down the court. I made a three when I went back down court, but I wasn't able to foul him and time ran out on me. We decided to play a rematch at the Staples Center and I came out roaring. Shaq was dunking all over the place, but everyone else was missing shots. In the first game, I had Kobe scoring at will in the before benching him because of fouls, but in this game he was having a difficult time scoring. I was kicking his ass, but he managed to keep the score closer than it should have been by getting a lot of fouls in his favor while shooting threes. He took away my momentum, but I was able to take a two point lead into the fourth quarter. Shaq manahed to foul out, which made me have to go to Kobe down the stretch and he stepped up to the challenge in a big way. His performance was Jordan-like as he grabbed key rebounds, scored all of my points and managed to get a hand in Nash's face as he went for a crucial three pointer. Since defensive rebounds are seemingly hard to come by in that game, I was proud of the fact that Kobe was getting defensive rebounds late in the game (I was controlling him for most of them) that Shaq probably wouldn't have gotten. Horry got some big offensive rebounds, which allowed Kobe to keep scoring points and winning the game for us. I ended up winning by seven, but that score doesn't indicate the closeness of that game. I was down by three with about forty seconds left and managed to win the game with Kobe's heroic performance.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted August 5, 2002 I resurrected Madden and had some barn burners today. I played a game as an old Patriots team against and old Browns team. I was talking to a girl on the phone during the game and ended up falling behind. I had to comeback from a 17 point defecit to send the game into overtime where I one. I played another one, but this time I was the 78 Raiders against the 97 Broncos. I barely got the win with a 103 yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 30 seconds left. I forced a fumble as they tried to go down the field to tie the game and ran out the clock.
Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted August 24, 2002 I was busy playing Madden 2003 today, and I had a pretty good game. I was in Franchise mode with the 4-0 Seahawks facing off against the 0-5 Steelers. On paper, the game seemed easy, but, alas, after years of Trent Dilfer's great accuracy and leadership helping me win many a Super Bowl, I had three quarterbacks now vying for the starting job, so I felt I would showcase them all in this game. The Steelers immediately went up 7-0 in the game, and were dominating early, but I regained the momentum when they missed an easy field goal(as I set their field goal kicking low because I was sick of scrub kickers kicking 55 yard field goals all the time.) I ran the ball in with Shaun Alexander, and tied it at 7. Unfortunately, my QB's could not get things together, but finally my 3rd stringer who I plucked from the 4th round of the draft, led my team to a field goal and a 12-7 lead at the half. I went back to my rookie starter, who also helped the team to another field goal and 15-7 lead. Thanks to a few boneheaded penatlies by my defense, the game was quickly tied at 15. Finally, it is late in the 4th quarter, and my rookie starter has taken control. He leads the team down to the 5 yard line, but it is 4th down with about 1:30 left on the clock. I decide to go for it because I do not trust my defense to hold them off, and my QB hits the TE, who continues to make me proud that I intensely scouted and used a 3rd round pick on him, for the late score. Pittsburgh was not done yet, as they drove down the field, but get in a 4th down situation. They throw a bomb to a wide receiver, and it looks to be out of bounds, but it is a first down?! F you game! You suck! Wait! The booth challenges the play! Booyah! The play is reversed! I get the ball, and down it two times for the 22-15 victory in a wacky game where my QB's combined for 3 INT, and one TD pass, but I won it in one of my worst games ever. Guest Grenouille Report post Posted August 24, 2002 A new one today playing Madden 2003. AFC title game. Pats(me) VS Raiders 14-0 Pats going into the 4th quarter. The Raiders come up on 4th down with about 2:23 left so they just punt. Troy Brown fumbles and doesn't catch the Raider who goes in to score 14-7 Pats. I get the ball back and in my hope to run up the score get intercepted by Charles Woodson. After a long drive they score with 0:06 left. 14-14. They kick off and I return it all the way to earn a trip to the Super Bowl against, the Rams(they always make it in the NFC ).
Guest The Voices In Your Head Report post Posted August 24, 2002 Last week, I had a heck of a playoffs with Green Bay. I came in as third division winner, and after beating Atlanta easily, I had to play at Philadelphia. In a really close game, I was able to take the lead with a touchdown in the final minutes, but the Eagles drove right down the field, but I was able to force 4th and goal. Luckily for me, they catch the pass out of bounds, and I'm able to win 28-24. Then, the following week, I had to play the 15-1 Rams [this is the 3rd year of my franchise] and kept up with them, going up 31-24 with 2 minutes left. I get the ball back, and on 3rd & Long, I try a pass to try to get a 1st down and end the game. Unfortuately, I end up a yard short, and Brett Favre gets knocked out of the game, and in case of overtime, I have to go to my lousy backup. [in this case, free agent pickup Tim Rattay] Seeing as I want to end this one, I stupidly go for it on 4th and inches from my own 40. I get stuffed, and the Rams get another shot. They drive right down the field, but my CB saves the game with an interception in the end zone to seal the game. Luckily for me, Favre is back in time for the Super Bowl, and we're able to beat a tough Steeler team by 10 to take the championship. But for those Ram & Eagle games, I was on the edge of my seat for more than probably any other Madden game I've had.
