Men's Figure Skating

GOLD - Alexei Yagudin (Russia)

SILVER - Evgeni Plushenko (Russia)

BRONZE - Timothy Goebel (USA)

Fantastic performance by Yagudin.  Four 6.0s and nothing below 5.9.

Yagudin is Russian, so I suppose it's ok for the commie judges to reward his performance accordingly.

Actually, Yagudin is not well-liked in Russia.  I believe they refer to him as 'that little shit' if my memory is correct.  The Russians like Plushenko a lot more.

What a pointless stupid story this figure skating thing was. It was really sad that all the stations interrupted their programming for  a damn press conference.

The end to that short track race was awesome!  The Australian guy coming from way back was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.  He won a silver, anyways, plus Canada won a bronze, so that makes me happy.

As a proud Aussie, I thought it was great to see Steve Bradbury get up for the win.

Remember the old addage: Slow and steady wins the race!!

Switching to hockey:

Canada 3, Czech Republic 3.  Great game.

That means:

Sweden (1st Group C) vs. Belarus (4th Group D)

Czech Republic (2C) vs. Russia (3D)

Canada (3C) vs. Finland (2D)

Germany (4C) vs. United States (1D)

Ice Dance

GOLD - Marina Anissina & Gwendal Peizerat (France)

SILVER - Irina Lobacheva & Ilia Averbuhk (Russia)

BRONZE - Barbara Fusar Poli & Maurizio Margaglio (Italy)

Of course the event isn't over for another 3 hours or so, but we all know that Ice Dance is predetermined.

Well, I was right.  Despite a bad fall by the Italians, the results stayed the same.  No surprise here.  At least this is the last Olympics for Ice Dance.

The U.S. continues to impress in Men's hockey. They look like there playing with a purpose this time.

Looks like Russia and Korea are in a huff about the officiating in this year's olympics.  So much that they are hinting at pulling out of Salt Lake and Athens in 2004.

I guess the US will have a better chance at men's hockey gold now.

Doubtful.  The Russian hockey players, pretty much to a man, hate the Russian hockey federation, and probably wouldn't pull out even if they were told to.

An actual quote from a Russian official:

"Without Russia, the Olympic games are nothing."

Wow...and people say Americans are arrogant.

Now it seems they're protesting the women's figure skating finals too.

Hmm.  SNL Rerun from 1994 when SNL was making fun of CBS' coverage of the 1994 Winter Olympics from Lilehammer Norway.  Funny...
