The one and only winter olympics thread

Recommended Posts

Guest MarvinisaLunatic

Well, Im surprised that no one has started this thread up.  Might be that no one cares, and really I dont care that much, except for hockey and snowboarding.

Hey, ok I didnt see the earlier thread about the Olympics, BUT, having a one and only thread will keep all the discussion in one thread, you know, and thats probably a good thing or something like that..Plus, I couldnt rename the thread..

GO USA!

We start off with an interview between Brian Williams & Jacques Rogge.  Rogge says that there will be no new events in the Summer Games, and that there are no problems between him and Dick Pound.

NBC sucks.  They say "We're taking a bunch of commercials now so that during the parade we can go up to 40 minutes commercial free.." and what do they do, commercials about every 15 minutes.  Yep..

Gotta love the guy from Bermuda who is wearing shorts in 10 F cold weather..

Nice uniforms for the Canadians.

CBC didn't have any commercials until after the Parade of Nations.

Dick Button does NOT look 73.

I'll bet they've gotten Mike Eruzione (or possible the entire Miracle on Ice) to light the torch.

Just one thing left to say...LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

(I hope.  That snowstorm looked pretty brutal.)

(And can you believe Slovakia lost to Latvia in hockey qualifying?)

Does anyone know what the fuck that "child of light" crap was?  I just saw a bunch of grown men in retarded customs chasing some boy holding a lantern.  Was there a point to it?  Is it a new tradition?

I'm confused...

Where the hell is Latvia? ;)

That was pretty cool seeing the 1980 USA team there. Too bad I was only 2 when their little miracle happened.

Wow.  What happened to the Norwegians?

Kirsten Skjeldal was 4th, Ole Einar Björndalen 6th. Mühlegg made a solo run for about 20 km, behind him there was a group of about 6 athelets. The Austrian athlets sprinted away from the other athlets at the finish.

I personally can't wait for the Skeleton event.  Nothing like lying on your stomach on a sled and rocketing through a course going 75 MPH, let me tell you.

I understand it was banned 50 years ago, anyone know why?
