Did Benoit and Dynamite ever wrestle each other at some point in their respective careers?

Yes they did, up in Stampede. I believe that is the only place that they ever faced one another one on one. They also had a few tag matches together in Stampede.

 

I've been looking for video footage of any of that for years but I have yet to find it.

Are you sure about this? I knew they tagged together before, but I don't remember ever hearing of them fighting against each other.

Yes I'm sure about it. The question was once asked at Billington's official website, and he answered it by saying they had indeed fought before, and that there is footage of it SOMEWHERE out there.

Yeah, I remember at the old dynamitekid.com he said they fought each other but I'm sure he said it was a short exchange in a tag match between the two.

He said at one time what you just said basicly, and another he mentioned their one-on-one. I used to go to that website all of the time.

Yes, they wrestled before. Stampede footage is pretty rare after about March of 1989 so it's hard to truly know if Dynamite ever wrestled Benoit on TV. There was a match on TV before between Dynamite Kid/Johnny Smith vs Chris Benoit/Randy Thatcher. Right when Stampede went under at the end of 1989 or the start of 1990 they had an Owen Hart 1hr special and a Chris Benoit 1hr special. They showed this match on here. It's cut into (they could've showed more on the original TV viewing, I don't know) with Thatcher getting beaten up on. Benoit gets the hot tag and despite Dynamite being crippled still bumps like mad. It's a brief interaction but fun. At the end of the match Dynamite and Smith the British Bruisers tie Benoit up in the ropes Andre the Giant stlye and pound on him. Davey Boy Smith however comes in and makes the save for Benoit which brings me to a match I once heard about with the Bruisers vs Benoit/Davey. Stampede was definietly setting up a feud between the two teams as there was a backstage lockeroom altercation aired on TV (Pretty sure on this, don't have the footage though) where the Bruisers took out Benoit/Davey Boy Smith. The two teams definitley wrestled before and I once found a site that said the match was 41/4 stars but I've never been able to find mention of this match on TV again.

 

Just some other notes--Benoit once stated somewhere that although it wasn't his best match his favourite was his bout against the Dynamite Kid. Dynamite also mentioned in his book that he wrestled Benoit before.

 

--In the beginning of the 1989 year Dynamite did an interview on TV with Ed Whalen the Stampede announcer after a Benoit vs "Lethal" Larry Cameron match (the match where "Bulldog" Bob Brown interferes and hits Benoit with a chair). In it he talks about he travelled across the world a few times and how now he's so beat up with his various injuries that he's probably going to have to retire soon. He than gives Ed Whalen his wrestling boots to give to Benoit while saying he believes Benoit will be the (or "a", couldn't make it out) wrestler of the 90's.

I always thought that DK and Benoit could pass for brothers in their younger days

I re-read Dynamite Kid's autobiography last week, and I'm fairly sure he said that he only wrestled Benoit once. Of course he could just be referring to singles matches, although his memory could have faded over the years.
