Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted November 5, 2003 I tuned into this fight sometime in the middle of the second, and after watching the fight, holy shit, someone get this Phillip Ndou guy another shot. He showed all kinds of heart before getting his ass handed to him on a plate. The guy threw 100 punches at one of the fastest and most accurate counterpunchers in the sport in the fifth round, granted, hardly any of them landed, and Mayweather cleaned his clock in the process, but still, that's gutsy. Pretty much a Custer's Last Stand, as he was totally beat in the 6th, and got smoked in the 7th. Fundamentally, Ndou needs some work, as he just got outclassed by Mayweather, but as far as guts, heart, and toughness go, he's there. He even got back on his feet after three uncontested right hands in a row, directly to the face. It was graciously stopped, but he still might've lasted another minute or so, maybe, if he tied up a lot. Floyd Mayweather Jr. needs to move up to 140 in a major way. I'd like to see him beat Joel Casamayor first, but he doesn't really have anything else to prove at 135.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2003 Just watched this last night up here. N'Dou is a fucking MAN for making that rush in the 5th. a couple more years/fights, and he will be the headline of these shows. Props for Mayweather for riding out the storm and then finishing the job. Fucking clinical. quick question about another thing I saw on the show. The guys were talking about Barerra having a steel plate in his head for the last 6 years? What tha dilly-o.
OldSchoolWrestling 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2003 quick question about another thing I saw on the show. The guys were talking about Barerra having a steel plate in his head for the last 6 years? What tha dilly-o. Marco Antonio Barrera underwent brain surgery in 1997 for an abnormal vein just beneath his cranium. Barrera has been with a small metal plate in his head ever since. Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2003 I honestly wouldn't think that so strange...except it's fucking Marco Antonio Barerra, I just can't see how his dome would be alright after the wars he's been in the last few years. Especially with a plate in it.
Guest NCJ Report post Posted November 5, 2003 Floyd is number 2 or 3 pound for pound. Whoever says boxing has totally deteriorated ain't watching outside of heavyweight.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted November 6, 2003 Thumbtack, did you watch Mayweather's head movement in that 5th round? Ndou was hitting nothing but air and glove for the most part. Floyd's defensive stance impressed me every bit as much as Ndou's flurry, as he barely got hit under the pressure of a 100 punch round. Insane. Did you by chance see Mayweather's accuracy according to compubox? 58% That's just not even fair.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2003 Actually, Mayweather's defensive movement confused the fuck out of me for a few seconds. Guarding with one arm up and one down and tilting his whole torso with the flow of the punches. The only other times I giggled with glee watching a fighter was seeing Prince Naseem early in his career doing his dance moves for defence, and Roy Jones knocking that scrub out with a hook from behind his own back. Christ I wish I could catch more fights.
