Guest Report post Posted April 7, 2002 I ask because I didn't notice him getting much face heat, more or less becoming the de facto face in his feud with the Rock, during the build up to Wrestlemania. I have my doubts that he would have been as over if the show had been held in, say, MSG. Any want to prove me wrong, as the crippler might say?
Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 7, 2002 If not for Canada Heat Hogan would still be a boring catch phrase 'cha gonna do and probably in the nWo on Raw causing trouble for Ric Flair.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 7, 2002 Don't blame Canada for his face turn. Blame Vince.
Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted April 7, 2002 whoever caused it must be punished, as it showed the debut of the superpimp
Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 7, 2002 whoever caused it must be punished, as it showed the debut of the superpimp so your calling the Red & Yellow boas and tye dye SuperPimp? Triple has nearly died crying when Hogan came to the ring in that gear. Hogan looks more like an aging Greatful Dead/Phish fan than a pimp
Guest Brian Report post Posted April 7, 2002 I think it could have happened anywhere, because it was that WrestleMania-like atmosphere. I would have been cheering the Rock like hell though.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted April 7, 2002 I think it would of happened everywhere. The fans just wanted to see Hogan win, bottom line.

Guest Y2DAYDAY Report post Posted April 7, 2002 In response to the poster that said he wouldn't have turned face if it was in MSG, I totally disagree because MSG is Hogan's backyard. From 83 or 84 to 93,he has been the man there and when he comes back, it will be huge.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 7, 2002 I dont blame Canada, I blame the bad build-up leading up to the match. Whatever Hogan tried to be a heel be it the demolition crash or the promo talking to a lifesize cutout the people never bought it. It was like the causal fan forgot everthing that happen in WCW and BATB 96 only remembering the 80s Hulkamaina days. There was always a Hulkamaniac in the audience in front row but in Canada it seemed like it was a Hulkamania convention where all of the closet fans came to worship their hero. The WWF had no choice but to make Hogan the #1 face it was what the mainstream wanted, even though the 5% of diehard fans SMARKS were saying not again. Guest mastermind Report post Posted April 8, 2002 Well, I was at the Hulkamania convention *lol*. Please. Hogan was getting face pops in America as well. Go watch his re-debut on RAW in Chicago. The fans were cheering him when he came down and JR did that respect crap gig at the commentary desk and calling him this evil man. The fans didn't buy it. For the mockery we make of the semi crash into Rock it did help Hogan get some heel heat(still a very dumb angle). I mean people were popping for the jack knife and razor's edge. The leg drop got pops. Hogan won't get pops in MSG? It's the friggin official birthplace of Hulkamania. The AWA never really had that "moment" to pinpoint Hulkamania's birth. I thought people said Hogan would get booed in "smarkville ecw country" Philadelphia last week? He was cheered over Triple H.
Guest mastermind Report post Posted April 8, 2002 Listening to the insider show up here right now. One guy states Vince is doing the right thing with putting Hogan in the main event NOW. He even said the explanation was well done as well. He stated Hogan is getting pops now because the wwf has deliberately booked shows in the northeast which has always been a stronghold for Hogan in his hey day. The big test will start this week with Hogan in Texas. I never even thought about that. He also stated that when the wwf goes to Atlanta and wcw hotbeds it could get pretty interesting since the fans have seen him there in the last few years when he was dwindling in workrate. Stating that he got cheered when he first arrived there because of his name, but as soon as he put on horrible matches the fans started booing. I think the guy made a very credible point. Guest Report post Posted April 10, 2002 It's not that I don't think he'd get pops at MSG or anywhere else in America. Hogan will always get some pops. He's Hulk Hogan for god's sake. I just didn't think he would be the face and Rock would be the heel anywhere else other than in a place where, at least from what Scott Keith said, anyone from the old school WWF is over for life. I have a hard time believing that there are many places in America (other than Eric S' backyard) where Rocky Sucks chants would be prevalent.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted April 10, 2002 There had been sightings of people supporting Hogan more and more through the buildup. Check out the guy in the nWo shirt in the front row the night of the monster promo that kicked off the feud. He even marks for Kev's Lazybomb, for chrissakes. The crowd was HUGE and too huge to be simply made up of Canadians. I'm sorry, there can't possibly be that many wrestling fans hanging around in Toronto. That would have happened at any arena, honestly. Crowds are typically markish, but I think even most Smarks, except possibly for the ones that have been watching 10 or so years of wrestling and have become desensitized to almost all storylines, would be marking out for Hulk Hogan's PPV return to the WWF.
