Guest Loss Report post Posted November 6, 2003 Actually, that is correct. It was widely known at the time that they put a guaranteed world title in his contract. It was the first of its kind for a wrestler not named Hulk Hogan and a big deal was made of it. This was because Nash had just started booking in WCW and was trying to get HHH a cozy deal and the WWF countered that by offering a world title and a seven figure salary. Wrestlers got all sorts of perks they'd never normally get during the promotional wars. It is somewhat funny that HHH was considered so loyal when he, just as EVERY wrestler did in those days, played both companies against each other for the best deal possible. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted November 6, 2003 Two things: Orton has not been getting his character over for a year. He was hurt immediately after he joined Evolution (as was Batista) in a house show tag Vs. the Dudleyz. His character started the Raw following Bad Blood (or at Bad Blood, when his interference established him). That's July to November. 4 Fucking Months. Wasn't it like two weeks after J-Day? Closer to six months, with the "super push" seeds planted last October. Andf he's not over yet (which he's not) keep him in the midcard with the other heatless midcarders. Guest Megatron Report post Posted November 6, 2003 Actually, that is correct. I stand corrected. Man, what a bonehead move by Vince. Things could have been so much different today if things turned out the other way.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2003 Orton has been trying to get over since about a week into his injury with his RNN updates that everyone here loved so much. Then he got back in the ring and everyone remembered.
Guest Loss Report post Posted November 6, 2003 I don't know that it was a bonehead move because they did get a good return on HHH as champ at one point, but it was odd that they couldn't afford Bret Hart making the same money just a year earlier.

Guest Loss Report post Posted November 6, 2003 This goes to show that Creative should be keeping his matches relatively short and giving him more interview time. They would be playing to his strengths and getting him more over. That's their job.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2003 Yeah. They also should run 20 minute psychology based matches when RVD gets a push. I actually think creatives job IS to make sure no one gets over.

Guest Loss Report post Posted November 6, 2003 He's got a good look, he plays a good cocky heel and he is a better talker than worker. There you go.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted November 6, 2003 He's got a good look, How do you play to that? he plays a good cocky heel and he is a better talker than worker. There you go. I don't think he's good on the stick. However, you just gave me the qualities of a decent manager.
Guest Loss Report post Posted November 6, 2003 It's funny that you say that, because I always thought Christian in the Michael Hayes role where he talked all the time and only occasionally wrestled would draw big money. The thing about Orton is this. Yeah, he's not great by any means, but the WWF proved in 1998 that even when they have a crappy roster, if they book them all smart and tap into something they have going for them, they can make them a star. To answer your question, Orton needs polishing on the stick, but the way to do that is to let him talk more. He's not bad, just green. There's a difference. And yes, he's overpushed. Guest Megatron Report post Posted November 6, 2003 But hardly anybody on here's willing to give anyone a chance. It seems they feel that if they can't have a MOTYC right off the bat then they will never be able to. I guess everybody's tired of waiting for things to get better. I've been watching WWF/E since WM2. I suffered through 93-96. Things got better in 97. A company can't have great business all the time. Just ask Nintendo. They were on top for a very long time, then a little thing called Playstation came along and Nintendo's been suffering ever since. Same thing here. Things will get better. They always do. Then things will get bad again. It's the way it goes. And I'll be right there through it all.
Guest Loss Report post Posted November 6, 2003 I can also add that if someone as untalented as Charles Wright (The Godfather) can get so over as a midcarder in 1999 and become a ratings draw, then they can make Randy Orton seem better than he really is too. It just takes a little bit of forethought.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted November 6, 2003 But hardly anybody on here's willing to give anyone a chance. I give people chances. But my one rule is that as soon as their big push starts, they should be ready. Not "almost there" not balllpark, not "kind of. Randy Orton's push started in June. He's still a heatless sack of shit. And why do people feel compelled to say what they've "been through in the past" all the time? I 'went through' 93-96 too but you don't see me hemming and hawing about it. You'll be right there through it all. Good for you. Here's a cookie.

The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2003 Anyone find it funny when they repeat Undertaker's quote during the Survivor Series commercials? "THA MAYTCH...EEESSS BURRR-EEEED AHLAVHE." It just sounds so hilarious.
Silence 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2003 Anyone find it funny when they repeat Undertaker's quote during the Survivor Series commercials? "THA MAYTCH...EEESSS BURRR-EEEED AHLAVHE." It just sounds so hilarious. I know. In fact, not too long ago, when my parents weren't in the house, I kept doing an impression of The Undertaker a few times saying that to poke fun at him.
