Guest NCJ Report post Posted November 5, 2003 This has been a great year for fight fans. Alot of major upsets and great fights. Right now where do you rank your top ten. 1. Roy Jones Jr.: Say what ever you want, but no one has Jones skills. People always say he hasn't fought anybody, but he has beat some very good fighters and even great fighters. Before he moved to heavyweight everyone was saying he was ducking Darius, but the guy who beat Darius was totally smoked by Jones. Probably top five best ever P4P 2. Floyd Mayweather: If he would throw combinations consistently, and move up in weight to fight some bigger game Mayweather would give Jone a run for his money. 3. Marco Antonio Barerra: Has become a great technician. Needs tto fight more. Hopefully improve his opposition. 4. James Toney: Made a statement in his last 2 fights that he is back and better than ever. 5. Bernard Hopkins: If he loses to Joppy he falls fast. Really needs to fight more. If he shows that he still has the skills could jump to 2 or 3. 6. Eric Morales: Every bit Barerra's equal 7. Kostay Tzyu: Might be upset by Mitchell. Would like to see a rematch with him and Zab Juddah. Could have a potential superfight with Mayweather. 8. Shane Mosely: Had fallen on hard time until his win over De La Hoya, but when he is on he is one of the best. 9. Ricardo Mayorga: I am still not sold on him, but you can't discount his wins over Forrest. 10. Oscar De La Hoya: I think he is one of the most overrated boxers ever, but the guy will fight anyone and is a very good boxer.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2003 I think putting James Toney in the top 10 is really pushing it. Lets see how he does against a top 10 heavyweight before we push him as one of boxing's elite.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted November 6, 2003 Eh, while I'd definitely agree that Toney's getting his second wind as far as his career goes, I don't see him as a top ten PFP fighter. Jones I can't really argue with, as the guy has fought some mustard competitors, and I've never even seen him get in trouble in a fight. Mayweather definitely has a claim, as does Kostya Tszyu. That would be an insane fight. Tszyu fights at 140, doesn't he? Those two would be sick. There's really no one in the heavies worth a damn that's still predominantly active. Maybe a case could be made for the Klitschko bros. (who had a fucking HILARIOUS promo after the Mayweather/Ndou fight.) Mayorga's one of my favorites right now. Violent as hell, full of contempt for the person he's fighting, strong, fast, and aggressive. He also smokes. The ass beating he laid down on Vernon Forrest was something to behold. He took a cocky bastard completely off his game, and just thumped him. Mosley's getting soft, I think, and the losses to Forrest really hurt him mentally. THREE times, he's gotten beat by this guy (including the amateur ranks) I wouldn't say I'm up to date enough to make a good top ten, but I definitely know that Jones Jr, Tszyu, Mayweather, Hopkins, Mayorga, and Barrera would all be included. Guest NCJ Report post Posted November 6, 2003 I put Toney in the top ten because he beat the best Cruiserweight in the world in the fight of the year and then beat a (just barely)top ten Heavyweight.
