Guest CheesalaIsGood Report post Posted April 7, 2002 Ok, I MAY be a retard for doing this, but awhile back some buddies and I started a SimFed using the CAW on the No Mercy game. Using the CAW we make our own gimmicks starting from scratch, or just going over the wrestlers preprogrammed into the game. Once the wrestlers are selected for your stable we then move onto booking matches, determining champions, and holding matches to find suitable contenders for the titles. All the while never actually playing the game, only using the "watch" command. On the surface I can understand why somebody would say "That sounds boring as hell!" but here is where the real difference between the AKI games and the crappy Smackdown games is readily apparent, as No Mercy is much more of a simulator than SD is a straight up arcade game. It still me surprises to this day (we've been doing this for a couple of years now) that with the CPU controlling all the action, that the matches often times DO use psycology, and the matches DO tell a story. Everyone makes their own wrestlers, so they have a vested interest in making their wrestler as good as they can. So when the matches are good, a false finish will have us at times leaping out of our seats. Plus, unlike "real" wrestling the winners and losers are not pre-determined so its wide open which wrestlers are a success and which fail. Cheesala
Guest Insanityman Report post Posted April 8, 2002 Heh, I considered doing that, but the Watch command seemed to drag on. Even on Expert the computer would punch, punch, stare... stare... grapple Jaw breaker... etc. I had two favorite CAW that I didn't care who won for the world title so I faced them off. I watched five minutes of nothing, then one guy got a sudden pin or pummeled into submission. If No Mercy had a bit more exiciting matches on watch, maybe I would try it one day... maybe. Guest Report post Posted April 8, 2002 We do that, but actually participate in the matches. We're gonna have a 'draft' where we'll divide the wrestlers amongst us, then thats who we control, mostly. Should be pretty cool. Thats in SD3 by the way, I do mine own stuff in NM.
Guest Report post Posted April 8, 2002 I do the same thing with SD 3. I have booked my stable against Professors and friends at my college.
Guest CheesalaIsGood Report post Posted April 9, 2002 Insanityman, Oh I agree. make no mistake about it. There are several occations where the matches won't be very strong. Yes, there is an over abundance of punching etc. However, its a roll of the dice really. Sometimes you roll a good number and get a really good match, sometimes you don't, much like the WWF. Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted April 9, 2002 Once in a while you get a match that the WWF will never put on. Most of the time I get to see 6 minute matches, usually they steal the other guys finisher to win.
Guest CheesalaIsGood Report post Posted April 10, 2002 Steals a move? That ALMOST never happens with my game. Once or twice in the whole time since we started. Cheesala
Guest Flang Report post Posted April 10, 2002 It's true that it don't happen very often, but i saw it 2 times recently, and The Big Show was the victim on both occasions. Weird to see Tajiri and Ric Flair do the big chokeslam on Big Show and win.
Guest Vyce Report post Posted April 11, 2002 I simfed. I've simfed with every single wrestling game that had a CAW feature, including Fire Pro Wrestling A for the GBA (which is not only a fantastic game, but has a pretty nifty CAW system and decent matches in "watch" mode, even if they can go too long). Guest Cataclysm911 Report post Posted April 15, 2002 Fire Pro Wrestling D is really good for watching computer versus computer matches. Not only do the matches greatly vary in length, but hitting a finisher doesn't mean that the match is over. In No Mercy, it's all about the finisher. It always has been. If you're going to have a "simfed," I suggest that you do it on Fire Pro Wrestling D for the Sega Dreamcast. It seems more realistic to me. Of course, if you're going for the WWF RAW type match length, then you may be better off with No Mercy.
Guest CheesalaIsGood Report post Posted April 15, 2002 Whats funny to me is that I haven't ever seen the game running on watch, and had the guys just stand there doing nothing. I HAVE had several matches that have shown plenty of false finishes, hot tags, psycology, and a few amazing comebacks. For instance: We had a match that was booked as a 30 min. Iron Man Match. the first 10 minutes were kind of back and forth with both guys scoring. Wrestler A had kind of an edge over Wrestler B, but it was still open season with 20 minutes left. In the next 15 minute B took over the scoreboard, and with 5 minute left the score was a daunting 7-3 in favor of B. In the next 5 minutes however, A was on fire! Not only did he tie the game up, he actually went up by 1 and with 15 seconds left the score was 8-7. They brawled for a few seconds, but B snuck around A and locked him in an abdominal stretch getting the tap out just as time ran out! The score was 8-8 but wouldn't you know it, Wrestler A's music starts playing and he was awarded the match! I don't think what happend here was a glitch, but it was a really good match even by real standards. Cheesala
Guest Report post Posted April 16, 2002 I make my own characters and have tournaments against my brother's "Ultimate Teams" os real wrestlers, I win everytime I'm proud to say, but I don't go as far as to make my own federation and storylines and all that. But I always make a wrestling version of myself on the game.
