I know the dubbed copy is degraded a bit but is the master ever affected?

No moreso than if you were simply playing the tape without dubbing it.

 

Any tape through repeated playing may suffer wear and tear, but unless the tape ribbon itself was defective, you'd have to play the tape A LOT before you saw any degradation in your master.  I wouldn't worry about it.
