Guest Boo_Bradley Report post Posted November 22, 2003 Ron Shaw defeated David Sammartino when the referee stopped the match as Sammartino was trapped in a bear hug; it's unclear as to whether or not Sammartino truly submitted as he simply waved his arms in the air prior to the match ending; this bout is known as the "Phantom Submission" match I've heard of this, but what was the point? The Arsenio Hall Show - Los Angeles, CA - November 22, 1991 WWF Tag Team Champions the Legion of Doom defeated the Nasty Boys (w/ Jimmy Hart) following the Doomsday Device; Jake Roberts did guest commentary for the bout along with Arsenio - to scout his opponents for the Survivor Series - and afterwards had a confrontation with the LOD; Gene Okerlund was the guest ring announcer So how many people here watched this? I don't remember much of it other than one of the Nastys falling down the stairs (intentionally) after ripping on the fans
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2003 I've heard of this, but what was the point? The Arsenio Hall Show - Los Angeles, CA - November 22, 1991 WWF Tag Team Champions the Legion of Doom defeated the Nasty Boys (w/ Jimmy Hart) following the Doomsday Device; Jake Roberts did guest commentary for the bout along with Arsenio - to scout his opponents for the Survivor Series - and afterwards had a confrontation with the LOD; Gene Okerlund was the guest ring announcer So how many people here watched this? I don't remember much of it other than one of the Nastys falling down the stairs (intentionally) after ripping on the fans Sammartino's match is often thought of as a precurser to the Montreal Incident. He was being pushed to the stars and then lost via submission to a JTTS. Not sure why it was done - his ego was getting too big, a shot at Bruno, who knows? I actually used to have a tape of the Arsenio match. It was pretty hokie. The Nastys made a big deal about winning the titles once in LA (WrestleMania VII) and so of course they thought they would regain them from the LOD in the same city. Jake the Snake carried the entire segment ... and he was doing commentary.
Papacita 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2003 If I remember right, the Arsenio match was titled "Mo' Better Bruise", which was a take off of a recent movie. I don't remember much other than Jake whipping out the king cobra at the end to hype up the Survivor Series tag match.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2003 I also have Mo Better Bruise on tape somewhere in my tape collection. I remember nothing about it except I remember thinking it was weird that Mean Gene was doing the commentary.
