Guest chirs3 Posted April 9, 2002 Report Posted April 9, 2002 First off, if anyone formerly of the IGN Boards suggests Pantera, I shall find where you live and pull an MC-Style Drive-by redecorating... Anywho... I'm getting together music for a CD. The best way to describe it would be as a "Rainy day" CD. Sad music, preferably but not necessarily instrumentals. If you need an example and have any sort of file sharing program, get "Tears of Pain" from the Silent Hill soundtrack. Best example. Anything you guys can suggest would be great, because I've got very few songs so far.
Guest Jokir Posted April 9, 2002 Report Posted April 9, 2002 I always liked the wild horses cover by Bush on the Late night show. That seems to be all over the place. Also always on my mind by good old Willie Nelson. Um...I think the song's called last night and it's by Mya. Not sure what you mean by sad songs, and not to be snobby, but I'm working on something and can't take the time to download your suggestion right now.
Guest razazteca Posted April 10, 2002 Report Posted April 10, 2002 Suggestions: November Rain = G N R Til Tuesday = Lynard Synard Creep = Radiohead Loser = Beck Scar Tissue = Red Hot Chili Peppers
Guest Kinetic Posted April 10, 2002 Report Posted April 10, 2002 Anything by Nick Drake or Elliot Smith. If sad is what you're looking for, you can't go wrong.
Guest chirs3 Posted April 10, 2002 Report Posted April 10, 2002 "Violet" by Zao is another example (anyone who knows Zao but doesn't know this song, download it) of a song. I'll get on downloading some of those suggestions...
Guest R2DFooster McSockman Posted April 10, 2002 Report Posted April 10, 2002 Velvet Underground - "Candy Says" Ben Folds Five - "Brick" Foo Fighters - "February Stars"
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted April 10, 2002 Report Posted April 10, 2002 My Dying Bride - "For My Fallen Angel" Husker Du - "Don't Wanna Know If You Are Lonely" Marilyn Manson - "Speed Of Pain" (it's acoustic)
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted April 10, 2002 Report Posted April 10, 2002 Blind Melon "Change" Red hot chili peppers "My Friends" GnR "Patience"
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted April 14, 2002 Report Posted April 14, 2002 dumb-nirvana it makes ME sad
Guest treble charged Posted April 14, 2002 Report Posted April 14, 2002 If you're looking for a sad music, I suggest "Red" by treble charger. Yes, there is a treble charger song for every occasion.
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted April 14, 2002 Report Posted April 14, 2002 "Long December" Counting Crows. Great band.
Guest LooseCannon Posted April 14, 2002 Report Posted April 14, 2002 One Summer Last Fall - Jets to Brazil On to War - Guided by Voices Distortions - Clinic
Guest The Man in Blak Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 Hmmmmm...somewhat sad/rainy/atmospheric music. Counting Crows - "Colorblind" Alice in Chains - "Nutshell" Rolling Stones - "Gimme Shelter" (it's not really sad, but I always think of rain whenever I hear the beginning) Foo Fighters - "Aurora" (maybe a little more upbeat, but same reason as "Gimme Shelter") Sarah McLachlan - "Possession - Acoustic Version" (it's the hidden track at the end of Fumbling Through Ecstasy) Bush - "Letting the Cables Sleep" Violent Femmes - "Color Me Once" Radiohead - "How To Disappear Completely", "Pyramid Song" Portishead - "Mysterons", "Biscuit", "Glory Box" (yeah, they're are almost the ultimate atmospheric sad/sappy band) Nirvana - "Something in the Way" nine inch nails - "The Mark Has Been Made" (a little abstract, but it kind of has a vibe to it) Massive Attack - "Teardrop" Led Zeppelin - "When the Levee Breaks" (it's a little hard, but c'mon - "when the levee breaks"...the title makes the song) Jars of Clay - "Flood" Aimee Mann - "Wise Up" (Exhibit A: Magnolia) That's got enough of a mix of many different genres and feels that hopefully you'll like maybe two or three out of this excruciatingly long list of suggestions. Edit: Throw on Gorillaz - "New Genius (Brother)" as well. I'm listening to it right now, and it makes me feel all tingly and suicidal. Another Edit: Though, not really.
Guest starvenger Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 If you're looking for a sad music, I suggest "Red" by treble charger. Yes, there is a treble charger song for every occasion. That's a good one for any occasion. But as that's my favourite Treblecharger song, I may be biased...
Guest JerryDrake Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 "Mourin You Till I Join You" - Naughty By Nature
Guest areacode212 Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 Changing the topic slightly, when you guys make a CD mix, do you just randomly throw the songs on there, or do you place them in a certain order? If the latter, what criteria and "rules" do you have for setting the song order?
Guest The Man in Blak Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 As far as mixing, I just try to grab a fairly consistent mood / sound between two songs. That, or if I feel really crazy, I'll totally juxtapose stuff, like Johnny Paycheck's "Take This Job and Shove It" followed by Gorillaz' "19/2000 (Soulchild Remix)". One or the other, usually. It's really a spur of the moment thing.
Guest Cataclysm911 Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 Hmm.. sad songs eh.. "Everybody want to rule the World" - Tears for Fears "November Rain" - Guns N' Roses "When Love & Hate Collide" - Def Lepard "The Freshman" - The Verve Pipe "I've been down hearted baby" - Primitive Radio Gods "Creep" - Radiohead or Stone Temple Pilots. Different songs, both should fit the mood. "Cats in the Cradle" - Ugly Kid Joe "Lonely Road of Faith" - Kid Rock "Tears in Heaven" - Eric Clapton "Everything I do, I do it for you" - Bryan Adams That should be a start.
Guest godthedog Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 Changing the topic slightly, when you guys make a CD mix, do you just randomly throw the songs on there, or do you place them in a certain order? If the latter, what criteria and "rules" do you have for setting the song order? john cusack talks a little about the rules of making a good mix in 'high fidelity.' i've made a couple mix CDs, & i definitely choose an order. i can't explain any rules i use, i just go by feeling...which song should logically follow what, a good song to begin on, a good song to end on, etc.

I usually put songs that have a similar theme together, or group them by region, or putting songs with similar name together.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 As far as making mixes, I try to make the first song have a killer intro to it. For my Drezmania 1 CD mix I made, the first song is Six Feet Under's "War Machine." The best part of "War Machine" is the intro, as it's the part most people remember. The last song should be something that has an end feeling to it. Drezmania 1 ends with Megadeth's "Peace Sells," a fitting end to a CD of all metal/hard rock. Every song on the CD has a strong intro, and a strong ending, with a great/very good middle piece. Most of the time, if it's just songs I like, I'll throw them together randomly. But if I'm making a conception mix, they need to go together. I once made a mix of all songs I used in e-fedding. They were placed in the order I used them.

Also, I'm curious, did Chris3 use any of these songs? Let me know, please.
