Guest Report post Posted April 9, 2002 Now Ive never been the biggest sports fans but I watch my share of NFL NBA and MLB. I just have to say I love these threads about stuff you hate. You guys are hilarious. I just wanted to start another one up about athletes you hate. Pick a couple atheltes and say why you hate them and maybe some specific instances. I don't want to seem like I'm bossing you guys around but this is the most hialrious folder on the board. I'll give some choices maybe in a little.
Guest gthureson Report post Posted April 9, 2002 Any athelete who thinks they 'deserve' to play for a winner or win a championship. You don't 'deserve' shit. Maybe if you kept salary demands to a reasonable level, your club could afford some depth. Don't whine about the team not winning when one guys salary takes up over 1/3 of the budget. Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted April 9, 2002 Isaiah Thomas-he was a dirty little prick when he played, and know he's a horseshit head coach. Karl Malone elbowing him was one of my favorite moments. The entire '85 Cardnials and '86 Mets- Alot of the old time players are bitter old men. At the HOF ceremonies last summer they came off has standoffish even Yogi Berra walked right inside without even waving to the crowd. Gary Sheiffield-dropping the racist bomb like it was going out of style an ESPN the magazine interview. He's been a pain in the ass and a cancer his entire career. It's funny that the Marlins won the World Series and Sheffield had his worse year. Mo Vaughn-The so called club house leader and role model, has gotten 2 DUI's and been involved in a bar fight. He also has done nothing in the post season.

And also any hold-outs while they still have a contract. If an athlete thinks they have a bad contract, then he should blame his agent, not the team.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted April 9, 2002 Roger Clemens- I think 99% of baseball fans feel this way. Plus, Red Sox, Blue Jays and Mets fans have special reasons to dislike this guy. Too bad he's one of the best pitchers ever.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted April 9, 2002 SHAQ....I can no longer stand this guy. And before I hear all these "You just hate him cos nobody can stop him." I'll have you know that before last season, I had pretty neutral feelings towards him. But recently he has gone from the hungry young talented center that wanted to win to a spoiled brat of a player that whines to no end. Lets see, him getting offensive fouls is apparently the defensive players fault for "flopping" when he slams his shoulder in thier chest. Him trying to hit Brad Miller in the back of the head is the Officials fault some how. I watch games all the time and watch him be protected by officials. In a league where they are calling flagrant fouls for no aparent reason, Mr. Shaq gets away with them because "He's so big the fouls look bad" He gets away with offensive fouls on nearly every play(i will give credit where it is due, he has adjusted his game over the past few weeks and is actually playing basketball now.) and calls other players weak and such when they play him instead of moving out of his way. Danny Fortson and Michael Olajakandi(sp) both have called him out for his whining lately, both of them callig him "A big baby" and stating how he slams into you every play and will foul you hard but if you foul him, he acts like it is a sin. I just can't stand the guy.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted April 9, 2002 Expanding on the bitching about athletes who hold out or want to restructure their contracts when they are playing well. Frank Thomas I'm looking straight at you, you signed a long term $9 mil a yr deal and then played below your salary for 3 years, you bounce back and have a great year and want more money all of the sudden. It's funny I don't recall hearing you offering to give any money back when you weren't playing that well, like Ted Williams did after he had a bad year. You piss and moan, yet you seem to forget that YOU SIGNED THE FUCKING CONTRACT!!!! So shut the fuck up and play ball! Gary Sheffield: He intentionally played poorly with the Brewers to get traded, acts like a dick head, claims racism when it isn't there, was contsntly bitching about his contract despit earning $10 million a year, and then got what he wanted by getting traded to the Braves. And MLB wonders why people are turned off by the state of the game today. Carl Everett: the guy is simply a Club House cancer, he constantly whined abotu things when they didn't go his way, fought with the manager, his team mates, opposing teams, and then blamed the media for all his problems. Good ridance Carl, have fun in Texas. Roger Clemens: Vindictive head hunter, arrogant prick, charged money for his autograph, pussied out of a few play off games, and seemed to be tanking it his last few years in Boston. It is too bad he is one of the best pitchers ever. Scott Brosius: I just hate the guy Bernie Williams: I have nothing against him as a person, but Hey Bernie you don't need to have a ten minute conversation with yourself between pitches. This goes for every other player and pitcher who take forever to get going again. That's all I can think of now, but I'll probably be back with more later. Guest Marius714 Report post Posted April 10, 2002 I hate Charles Barkley! What a maroon! Claiming racism at Augusta National when Tiger hits the ball on average 297 yards! WTFO? Tiger is one of the best hitters in golf and the changes make this course harder for everyone else while he will still kick ass! Old "Mr I am not a role model" should at least know what he's talking about before running his mouth IMO.
Guest Report post Posted April 10, 2002 Shaq. I'd like to see George Mikan just put the whoopin' on him. Roger Clemens, Mo Vaughn, Carl Everett. Darryl Strawberry. The days when the "Darrryyylll" chant was widespread were good days. Never played near the potential he should have. Randy Moss. He originally disturbed me in a Sports Illustrated article years ago and has done nothing to reverse that image.

Guest Report post Posted April 10, 2002 I'll agree with the two guys that have already said Isiah Thomas and Charles Barkley. Thomas is indeed a huge prick, but a racist one at that. He and Barkley both are. Remember when Thomas said something to the effect of.. "If Larry Bird was black, he'd be just another player." WTF? And Barkley is too. He always talks about racist sports, but always makes racist comments about white people himself. He's been quoting as saying "This is why I hate white people" many times, although he appears to be joking. In my opinion, he's really not. I find that offensive. I also hate Randy Moss- the man has all the potential in the world but is a complete asshole. He won't even play hard if the play isn't designed for him. I'm sure there's more, but it's late, and that's all I can think of.

Allen damn Iverson. Allen damn Iverson. Allen damn Iverson. Allen damn Iverson. I used to like the guy. When he first came into the league, he was an exciting player and he had a lot of fancy moves. Those moves have disappeared but the NBA tries to act as if they haven't. The guy is the biggest whiner in the league but I have to hear how much heart he has. They call him tough because he is 165 pounds and can play a whole season. As far as I am concerned, his 165 pounds means jackshit. Maybe he should try an offseason training program and he wouldn't have so many injuries and he wouldnt have to be 165 pounds "with ink." The guy missed a playoff game because of a bruised tailbone, but Aaron McKie played with a broken ankle and Eric Snow played with an injury too. They lost that game, but the league never said anything about that. The guy doesn't get nearly as many technical fouls as he should just because he is one of the leagues designated stars. How does a guy shoot the lowest feild goal percentage in finals history and shoot in the 30% neighborhood during the regular season have a stat about his team needing his team to shoot 30 plus shots for his team to win? Fuck Iverson and the damn horse he rode in on.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted April 10, 2002 "And Barkley is too. He always talks about racist sports, but always makes racist comments about white people himself. He's been quoting as saying "This is why I hate white people" many times, although he appears to be joking. In my opinion, he's really not. I find that offensive." You are only telling part of that story. Barkley was talking to ONE particualr reporter, a friend of his, a white friend of his, and said "See, this is why I don't like white people." The other reporters were there and they acted like he was directing it at the white race. Charles Barkley's wife is white so aparantly he's not TOO racist. He wasn't quoted saying that "many times" it was once and to a friend of his. Just like on that Thomas quote, you only told half of the statement. He said that if the only reason he was being embraced in Boston was because he was white. He was saying if he was black, he would just be another player to the Boston crowd...It was a shot at the Boston fans. He was talking about how other guys in the league were putting up the same numbers and weren't getting half the attention that Bird was getting(which was true). This of course doesn't change the fact that they were both pricks, but they were pricks for other reasons...being racist wasn't one of them.

Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted April 10, 2002 Vern, I've heard you mention the 86 Mets and 85 Cards before, any reason why you hate them? Just curious. '86 Mets-Gary Carter, Keith Hernandez, Wally Backman, Kevin Elster, Ray Knight, Lenny Dykstra, Kevin Mitchell, Darryle Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, Roger McDowell, and Davey Johnson. Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted April 11, 2002 Darryl Strawberry: How many chances can one man receive befor the ultimate fuckup? Eric Lindros: Crybaby, who held out from the team he was drafted by, because he didn't want to be in a french based city. Pavel Bure: Great player, just a whining douchebag. Holding out from Vancouver made him look like a real prick.
Guest ajc Report post Posted April 11, 2002 David Wells- He had a handshake agreement with the D'Backs and their management to join them on a 2-year deal. While the paperwork was being processed, he signed with the Yanks. This ain't about Steinbrenner's deep pockets, it's about a man going back on his word. John Rocker- The "poor victim of the liberal media and political correctness" has worn out his welcome in two cities (Atlanta n' Cleveland) and will likely be released once Zimmerman is healthy in Texas. It's one thing to be a talented racist (Ty Cobb)...it's another to be racist and a bum. Jason Isringhausen - Living proof that the closer is the most overrated "job" in sports. This hack parlayed a mediocre 2001 season into a fat contract with the Cards and then insulted the A's after he left. He'll get exposed for the no-talent he is after a few months. Tiger Woods- He's a creation of the great Nike conglomerate. Certainly one of the greatest golfers on the planet, but when I watch him, he comes across as a souless bore. He should stand up to whomever feeds him his lines and try to be himself. Junior Seau- He overpursues...he showboats...he's one-dimensional...he's the NFL's most annoying player. Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted April 11, 2002 Any member of a Lakers team. Seriously. I hate them all. Wilt, Kareem, Elgin Baylor, West, Rambis, Shaq, Kobe, Worthy, Magic, Van Exel etc. As a lifelong Celtics fan I have grown to hate the Lakers organization. It's one of those deep-seeded issues that makes me cringe.

Guest DrEvil Report post Posted April 11, 2002 In general: #1 - any player that gives a half-assed effort: doesn't run out a ground or flyball, doesn't skate/run back to cover his defence, won't put the extra effort in to make the play #2 - any player that holds out for "market rate", specifically, the scenario where a GM screws up and gives player x and monster deal that is far more than he's worth, then player y comes along and says he's as good as player x so he should be paid the same or more Specific: Bryan Marchment A notoriously cheap shot artist and dirty hitter who constantly takes out opponents knees. Then when he gets suspended for a dirty hit, he bitches about how he's picked on because he's one of the only players who still throughs bodychecks. No asshole, a hockey body check is shoulder to chest, shoulder to shoulder, or hip to abdomen. A knee on knee lowbridge is an attempt to injure and you deserve a HHH sledgehammer job for it. Ulf Samuelson Fortunately now retired. Along the same lines of Marchment, but this asshole didn't even have the balls to answer the bell when someone came looking for revenge. One of the best stories I heard about him was when Tie Domi took him out with The Punch. The Oilers were watching that game and they all spontaneously rose and cheered when Domi hit it. Theoren Fleury Such a tough player for a small guy - BULL-SHIT. He takes runs at opponents when their backs are turned then hides behind teammates or the linesman. Of course once a linesman comes in, that's when he's all hellbent on getting at someone, but not so hellbent that he'll actually break free. How ironic is it that he was the one doing a chicken dance earlier this year. Roger Clemens It's been said, just wanted to reiterate. Derek Jeter He's my X-Pac of baseball - I hate him and he annoys me, but I don't even know why anymore. Tom Barrasso pronounced Barr-ass-hole. One of the greatest of all time, just ask him. Has the distinction of being the only goalie in history who has never allowed a goal that was his fault, a teammate screwed up on each one. Brett Hull Cocky, arrogant prick, and he backs it up, bastard.
Guest ajc Report post Posted April 11, 2002 I think it's about you hating the Yankees. You couldn't be more wrong...I don't hate the Yanks. As a baseball fan for 20 years, I respect the hell out of their history. From Ruth n' Gehrig to Mantle n' Maris to Munson n' Jackson to Jeter n' Clemens...they've been a class organization from day one. I even respect their fans...at least, the ones who are knowlegeable and not bandwagon jumpers. In the case of David Wells, it's nothing against the uniform that drapes his Dusty-esque frame...he went back on his word and that's a gutless thing to do. I coulda used any number of non-Yankees in my example, but I just chose Wells, because his act is the most recent.

Guest Dr Flintlock Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I can't say that I HATE these athletes, but still... Ken Griffey Jr.- What the fuck happened to this guy? He went from baseball's darling home run-hitting, Gold Glove-winning ambassador to that bitter old man who is constantly on the disabled list and is always scowling so much he'd make Thurman Munson cry. Charles Barkley- It's almost as if he's proud to be an ignorant blowhard. I saw one episode of VH1's "The List" where they had Barkley on with some other folks and they were listing the "top alternative albums" or something. Someone threw "Nevermind" into the list, and Barkley protested. "Why you wanna pick Nirvana? They all killed them all selves! They all dead, ain't they?" I think that speaks for itself. Tony Gwynn- I really have no major beef with this guy. In fact, I have the upmost respect for this 7-time batting champion- and I'd have even more if he didn't have the voice of a Star Trek nerd. The 85' Cardinals were a bunch of tempermental bastards...but they were MY tempermental bastards. Sorry for being biased- born and raised in St. Loo... Guest alfdogg Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I hate Kobe Bryant for starting that fight with Reggie Miller and then not apologizing afterwards. If it was the other way around, I just know the press and the fans would have all collectively crucified Reggie, but since it's Kobe he gets a slap on the wrist. Of course I'm from Indiana too, so maybe I'm a little biased on that point...
