28 Dyas Later...

Recommended Posts

I just saw it yesterday and loved it. My favorite new horror movie since Halloween: H2O in 1998. But then...

After 100 minutes of kick ass horror it ends with a traditional American lovey dovey ending. Yah I know it's supposed to give a ray of hope or whatever but it just feels so wrong.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

They showed an alternate ending after the movie where Jim dies and Selena tells Hannah that they have to "Move On" and that ending is about a million times better than the one they used. But still not perfect.

How would've you have ended it?

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

I would've had them drive through the gate and then just end right there leaving the ending wide open as to whether Jim lives or dies or what happens next.

*cough*spoiler tags*cough*

personally, I think they should've gone with the radical ending, but

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

IMO, it really picked up once they hooked up with the solders

The movie ending was just fine although it was alittle too hollywood for my taste...

I would've had...

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

...the jet drop a bomb on them. Then the movie could complete its homage to horror, since it already took ideas from The Crazies and Day Of The Dead, and could now take a scene from Return Of The Living Dead.

Here is my question that they never really explained...was the infection spread all throughout the world or just that tiny island of England?

Well they said near the beginning that before communication was cut off that the virus had been spotted in Paris and New York so either:

A) Antidote had been found

B) Virus had spread worldwide, leaving only scattered survivors

c) Virus had killed its carriers too fast, letting it eventually die out.

Given the fact that virus carriers in England were starving to death, I'd have to go with B.

The ending we got was on orders from the studio. I also think it would've been best to just end it on the freeze frame at the gate.

The report that it had spread to Paris and NYC was likely bs spread to keep people from trying to escape the island.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

The soldieer that's to be executed with Jim, tells Jim this. Then Jim sees a passenger plane fly overhead, giving this theory merit.

The similarities between it and Dawn of the Dead are there, too

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

We meet one of the main characters while they're asleep in both. In both movies, part of the movie involve 4 survivors traveling. While both groups of 4 are traveling, they stop to steal gas. While they're stealing gas, one character goes to look around elsewhere (one gets coffee, one says he's looking for food), and kills one or more kid zombies. We meet one character in riot-ish gear in both. There's also the token 'post apocalypse merry shopping in the abandoned store' scene.

There are probably more, I just can't think of them.

I believe the creators have admitted that the Romero films were huge inspirations for the movie.

I'd also say it was inspired by Day of The Triffids and the book I Am Legend.
