The Bourne Identity

Just saw The Bourne Identity because some friends told me I'd like it. I was very impressed, some thoughts:

- Matt Damon plays the character much softer then I would've expected after reading the novel. It does wonders for the chemistry he has with Franka Potente, but the later scenes he has with the CIA Admin guy seem kind of... weak. I had a similar compliant about Tom Hanks in Road to Perdition he just never played it "stone cold."

- The editing is fantastic and really does a excellent job conveying Bourne's skill at the hand-to-hand arts. It's very reminiscent of Peter Hunt's work on the early 007 films in bringer a very fast and crisp editing style to the piece.

- Doug Liman needs to do more pieces like this one, as he encapsulated the novel and characters perfectly. He makes a great use of color, and action in this film as well. Top marks.

- Clive Owen is perfect. Did you have doubts? His final showdown with Bourne is the best scene in the movie and actually felt a little like North by Northwest when Owen and Damon were playing cat-and-mouse in the tall weeds.

The first time I saw it I thought it was awesome. The second time I saw it I thought it was horrible. Definitly a movie with no replay value.

I enjoyed this movie both times I saw it. Matt Damon does pretty good as a confused badass who doesn't want to kill for some reason.

I don't think this movie got enough credit when it came out.

I thought the same thing about Bullitt but it had more to do with the sweaty fat guy who was jabbing at me at intervals with a hatpin then the movie itself.

It was alot better than I was expecting.

I wasn't expecting much out of a movie with Matt Damon as an action star. Damon is a good actor, but I doubted him as a action star.
