The WWE PPV DVD Thread

Recommended Posts

I bought No Way Out on Sunday before heading over to my friend's for Wrestlemania. So far I haven't gotten too far into it since I've been busy, but I really liked the Heat match (I saw all those guys in Manchester, NH on monday night as well, which added to the novelty).

Hell, I think the only guy on the No Way Out card who I didn't see monday night was Brock Lesnar.

'Crossing Borders' isn't that bad of a song.

Down here, when I purchased (or received) the Region 4 copy of Unforgiven 2003, we got highlights from the Melbourne and Sydney Ruthless Aggression show/s, respectively, Shawn Michaels and Rob Van Dam climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Trish Stratus and Stacy Keibler at the Melbourne Zoo and in the city, Ric Flair playing a bit of AFL, just to name some in the 'A Little Extra Down Under' section, among other extras.

Obviously, they didn't think that those shows deserved their own DVD, ala Global Warning.

On No Mercy 2003, we get exclusive interviews, and on Survivor Series 2003, we get Survivor Series Moments, and events leading to the matches, just to name a couple.

They are released approximately two months after they air - I still have to get Armageddon, and the Royal Rumble shouldn't be too far away, if it's not out yet.

Just some notes on some recent WWE DVDs down under.

:P

Well, if it was in the Top 40 it would, but considering that it's done by a non-singer, it isn't so bad.

I look at it from a different POV.

Obviously there was a reason that Rey became a wrestler as opposed to a singer.

That song helps make that point.

Does the cliche of 'hidden talent' mean nothing to you?

I just see it as seeing as he doesn't sing professionally, he didn't too bad a of job.

And I say that by normal standards for music, he did areally bad job, which is why he doesn't sing professionally.

It's all about what kind of standad you place upon it.

Yeah, I'll agree with you there.

But I think that we're just going to have to agree to disagree. I'll admit the Crossing Borders is no Nineth Symphony, obviously, but it is still an enjoyable tune.

Can anybody tell me if Rey's DVD is worth picking up?

Not sure, but the HH 97 match against Eddie Guerrero is on there as an extra, that alone makes me want to pick it up.

The music dubbing really gets on my nerves. The 2 wwe ppv dvds I have are summerslam and unforgiven of 2002. The only music they dub is flairs (his old wwf theme) and edges (you think you know me theme). But on the flair collection dvd the theme is on there. They seem to be selective about that. anyways bookers, and rvds themes are fine on those 2 but I guess it gets selective. and I am shocked that sseries 03 dubbed out limp bizkit as they din't do that with previous dvds did they (like wm x7 and 19). anyways unforgiven 02 kept the adrenaline song from the xxx movie soundtrack so thats cool.

You have your heavily-publicised WWE DVDs, and you have your small-time WWE DVDs.

Wrestler's auto/biography DVDs seem to be one of the latter category.

Gee, I can't think of any WWE DVDs I have that have been edited.

Oh, wait. Just one. Scott Hall's entrance for WM18 is edited to have a "static" effect leading out of the black & white (the original show simply went to color without a transition.) Compared to the usual NWO static effect, this one looks really tacked-on and low budget.

Can this thread be pinned, please?

I second this!

Oh, and I bought the "Cuz Stone Cold Said So" dvd today at Wal-Mart for $5.50!

It's a fluff dvd that made me wicked nostalgic and featured most of the "I Quit" match between Austin and Bret Hart at WM 13.

I could check it up, but is that the DVD with the white background and the Austin skull over the top of it on the cover?

At least that's what the Region 4 edition looks like, if we're talking about the same DVD.

Guest The Shadow Behind You

seriously, why don't they just slap on *bonus* matches on these dvd's?

You got all this AWA, ECW, NWA, WCW, WWF shit in your vault.

Slap 2-3 matches on them and they could sell better...

like the Bad Blood DVD should have had 12.29.03 on it. (it's not on any dvd and it ties into the Main event)

The HIAC was there, throw in another HHHIAC match like the Jericho one or better yet, the Foley one to add to the whole "HHH owns HIAC" sell.

It won't hurt them to use a couple bonus matches on the dvd's, hell they do it for the Web-Casts and they offer usually some good matches, slap those on the dvd's as well. I know those offers are supposed to intice more people to order via webcast, but the dvd's come out 2 months later, might as well slap them on the dvd as well.

Do you buy every WWE DVD released?

I agree. Most of this year's PPVs sucked, so there's no real incentive to buy the DVD. A few decent bonus matches might make an otherwise shitty PPV DVD worth buying.

You skipped GAB, right?

But of course. I'm not getting Taboo either. Fuck these extra PPVs.

Anyone notice on the back of the Survivor Series 04 dvd, that there are two typos? Apparently, it's "Chirs Jericho" and "Sheton Benjamin" now.

This is annoying. On, I think, the John Cena DVD, it has 'Eddie Guerrero vs John Cena' listed, as well as something to the extent of 'Eddy Guerrero and John Cena doing......'. How the HELL do you give the man's name two different spellings on the very SAME DVD?!?

I buy them all. My DVD collection is pushing 100+.

I feel that way at times, but there always seems to be one thing about a PPV that makes me want to buy it. As much as GAB sucked, the WWE title changed hands in a ***+ match , so therefore, I bought it.

Taboo Tuesday featured Benjamin's 1st singles title win ever, the culmination of what seemed to be a push for an unknown (Gene Snitsky), 2 good main events. Gotta pick it up. Plus after marking out like a little bitch when HHH applied the Figure Four on the CORRECT KNEE, which I haven't seen done in years, I was satisfied in my pickups.

I skipped Judgment Day and GAB... I'm going back and forth on Unforgiven because though I recall liking the show when I watched it, the huge amount of negative feedback has mentally made me think I hated it. No Mercy I probably will get as I there were four matches I enjoyed-to-really enjoyed on that show (tag title, CW title, London vs Kidman, Rico/Haas vs Dudleyz). The main event was really awful but that's what power buttons on DVD players are for. Taboo Tuesday is one of those things where I didn't have a chance to see it on PPV but the results sounded good enough to check out on DVD (although there was a lot of negativity there for that one... I'm just interested in HBK/HHH, the IC title match, and Flair/Orton, which seemed to be reviewed positively).

Survivor Series will be a pick-up, Armageddon will be a pass. I only picked up the 2003 edition to get my fancy 2003 box - the crappy PPVs from this year have no such incentive so hopefully I find a stand alone version of the tag title match on Kazaa someday.
