Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2003 from the KC star No teeth to rumor Pena laughs off story that pit bulls attacked him By BOB DUTTON The Kansas City Star Royals manager Tony Pena spent much of Wednesday debunking a rumor that he had been mauled Tuesday by a pack of pit bulls in the Dominican Republic. “My mother heard it and was all worried,” Pena said. “I even got a call from the presidential palace. They wanted to know if I was OK.” Some facts: Pena hasn't been in the Dominican since he left Dec. 10 to attend the winter meetings in New Orleans. He flew Monday afternoon to Kansas City and will be here through the weekend. “Oh, I heard that I was air-lifted to the hospital,” Pena said. “It's all baloney. I'm fine.” As often happens with rumors, this one has a seed of truth. Pena said he was nipped by his bullmastiff while rough-housing last week before leaving home. The bite required neither stitches nor medical attention. “Somehow,” Pena said, laughing, “that turned into a story that I was attacked (Tuesday) by six pit bulls. If I was attacked by six pit bulls, I wouldn't be talking to you.”
