Cakewalk's Sonar 3

I have been recording music on my computers for the past couple of years. I recently got Sonar 3 (I had previously been using version 2) and I have a couple of questions. Most importantly, whenever I record, the sound is very deep and distorted, almost as if I was a criminal trying to mask my voice. If anyone else uses this program, do you know a way I could fix this?
