M-pro match pimping

Well, after finally tracking down and seeing These Days, I'm hooked on M-Pro and I was wondering if anyone could recomend the best stuff to get after that. I've heard that '96-'97 is the best, and after that it's not much to get worked up about, although I am hearing lots of praise for some of their more recent shows. For now, I'm mainly interested in finding the "sequels" to the 10-man tag, though I'm thinking about getting the '95 Mask Tourniment if it's any good. Thanks in advance.

Just get all the '96 stuff.  Comms first and then the better TV to fill in the important gaps (like the 12/9/96 10-man elim).  I haven't seen the '97, so I can't comment on it, but they had better matches than the match on These Days, believe it or not.

To add to what Chris already wrote.

I would suggest compiling and watching the MPro stuff in order to get a full flavor for the feud.

March-June 1996 Comml (2 1/2 hrs)

- The Evolution of KDX as they add Taka and Funaki to the group.  This tape focuses on the recruitment of Taka and Funaki and starts to develop the Sasuke Sekigun stable in MPro.  Also includes the Super Delphin and Gran Naniwa total face turns.

June 1996 Comml (1 1/2 hrs)

- I haven't seen this one yet but it includes the first 10 man in the series of great 10 man tags and also had more complete versions of some of the June 96 tags found on the previous Comml release.

6/17/96 Skydiving J (2 1/2 hrs)

- Delphin v Taka start their mini rivalry and Liger v Togo sets up for Liger's debut in MPro on the following Comml Tape.

July-August Comml (2 1/2 hrs)

- This tape focuses on the summer singles series with a ton of singles match up's.  The highlight of this tape is a 6 man with Liger/Naniwa/Hamada v Togo/Taka/Funaki.

9/5/96 Gaora TV (1 hr)

- features TM v Teioh and an 8 man tag that is complete on the Sept-Dec Comml.  TM v Teioh is nothing great but does show how far KDX is willing to go to win with the bloodied arm of TM.  Not essential viewing but worth picking up if you have the spare change.

September-December 1996 Comml (2 1/2 hrs)

- KDX v Sasuke Sekigun complete's stage one of their feud, climaxing on 12/16/96 with the last "regular" 10 man tag of the series.

10/10/96 TV (3 hrs)

- features the 32 minute 10 man classic.

Random TV-

11/96 Tag Tournament

- worthy of making the list because of the rare appearance of Santo in MPro with the final being Togo/Teioh v Santo/Delphin.

10/19/96 Togo/Teioh/Shiryu v Sasuke Sekigun

11/10/96 Taka/Funaki/Shiryu v Sasuke Sekigun

- These two matches are worthy of being pikced up simply to compare to their early 6 man's in early 1996 and then to the 11/12/96 6 man which is highly praised.

12/20/96 Taka v Delphin and 8 man tag

- both found on Spet-Dec 1996 Comml (in full I believe)

12/26/96 TV

- has the 12/9 Elimination match in FULL.  Must see.

Jan 1997 Samurai TV

- includes the 1/14/97 6 man tag where KDX finally pin Sasuke.  This match sets up the 5 v 5 series

1/21/97 8 man tag from BattlArts

- Good match to see, the last tag match with Shiryu.

3/1/97 5 v 5 series

- Must see.

April/May 1997 STV

- has the 3/16/97 10 man which is great to compare to the early 10 man's and see how the feud has evolved.

Anything after March of 1997 is worthy of being seen, but shouldn't be priority because if it is priority, you will be disappointed.  The stuff is good but doesn't compare at all to the 1996-early 1997 stuff.  Some random stuff to look for is:

July 1997 8 man Elimination Match

10/10/97 TV Special Complete

1997 Tag League

12/18/97 Taka v Funaki

- Taka's last good match?

Hope this helps.

Tim, who knows a little too much about Mpro

12/18/97 Taka v Funaki

- Taka's last good match?

Are you forgetting TAKA's 10-17-99 match against Minoru Tanaka? To call that match "good" would be a gross understatement...

There is a question mark after that comment, isn't there?

I haven't seen that match yet, but going on the principle that I like Minoru Tanaka as much as I like the current AJPW product, I would venture to say that I would like Taka's match with Funaki a little bit more.

If you have time, download it from my server and see for yourself. The match was at least good, if not great.
