Guest Posted April 11, 2002 Report Posted April 11, 2002 Remember gimmick matches? No Not Hardcore cookie sheet matches Nope not Cage matches... I mean Gimmick Matches remember, Coffin Matches, Buried Alive, Barbwire matches, Inferno matches..... Stairway to hell etc etc etc What was your favorite gimmick style matches, WWF WCW ECW or even Japanese Deathmatches
Guest Shaved Bear Posted April 11, 2002 Report Posted April 11, 2002 id like to see HHH vs Test vs Nash vs UT in a Barbed Wire match, well the workrate would be awful, but it would be worth it
Guest Posted April 11, 2002 Report Posted April 11, 2002 <<~~ YES!!!!!! I made it to the Big League!!!!!! Maybe, Storm can be jobbed out to me now. Only Gimmick match I really wanna see brought back, and I Think the WWf should of used it at Survivor Series...... WAR GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Tony149 Posted April 11, 2002 Report Posted April 11, 2002 I miss War Games, Battlebowl featuring the "Lethal Lottery", Chain & Strap matches, Lumberjack.
Guest razazteca Posted April 11, 2002 Report Posted April 11, 2002 the Strap match were the winner has to touch the 4 corners of the ring
Guest Shaved Bear Posted April 11, 2002 Report Posted April 11, 2002 id hate to sound like a mark of sorts, but were the lethal lottery matches predetermined or done on the fly, because they were all really bad
Guest Tony149 Posted April 11, 2002 Report Posted April 11, 2002 id hate to sound like a mark of sorts, but were the lethal lottery matches predetermined or done on the fly, because they were all really bad Supposedly the first one in '91 wasn't predetermined. I think the ones in '92, '93, '96 & 2000 were booked in advance. Battlebowl is like the Royal Rumble, in order to have a good one, you need to book it carefully.
Guest dreamer420 Posted April 11, 2002 Report Posted April 11, 2002 Here are the ones that I liked: Wargames Stairway To Hell Double Jeopardy
Guest WWF4Life Posted April 11, 2002 Report Posted April 11, 2002 I haven't seen a Stretcher match for ages...the last one was the Van Dam-Sabu one in ECW. What else? Dog Collar Chain...haven't seen one for a few years. Oh, and the Blindfold match
Guest Posted April 11, 2002 Report Posted April 11, 2002 I want to see again: Gimmick Battle Royale Buried Alive Inferno War Games Doomsday Cage Hell in a Cell Lions Den WW3
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted April 11, 2002 Report Posted April 11, 2002 Lions Den was awesome. but i really miss a good old fashioned NWA lights out texas death match. violent as hell the ones i have seen and were aewsome to watch. i also miss just a barbed wire match. no c-4 explosives, no light bulbs, no fire. just a barbed wire match. those kicked ass.
Guest nWoScorpion Posted April 11, 2002 Report Posted April 11, 2002 what was stairway to hell? Hell in a Cell i miss, Lumberjack matches happen every year now, and i think Battle Royals are rare again.
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted April 11, 2002 Report Posted April 11, 2002 Ladder match with barbed wire or a singapore cane at the stop was a stairway to hell.
Guest dreamer420 Posted April 12, 2002 Report Posted April 12, 2002 I haven't seen a Stretcher match for ages...the last one was the Van Dam-Sabu one in ECW. What else? Mike Awesome has a few stretcher matches in WCW. It was part of his gimmick as the career killer, after Kanyon's bad taste fall in Kansas City. I believe he even had a stretcher match on PPV against DDP, which was the show where Kanyon was sitting on the stage for the match in a wheel chair and halo. Kanyon turned on DDP during that match giving Awesome the win.
Guest alfdogg Posted April 12, 2002 Report Posted April 12, 2002 "<<~~ YES!!!!!! I made it to the Big League!!!!!! Maybe, Storm can be jobbed out to me now." That's PLAGARISM, DAMMIT! lol I posted that in different wording on the WWF forum (who should be champion) somewhere when I got to Metal, too
Guest Some Guy Posted April 12, 2002 Report Posted April 12, 2002 I miss teh War Games, WWF should do this for the Survivor Series ME this year. Strap matches were teh object is to pin, not touch all corners are cool, but require teh proper build up tio make sense, either the has to run away a lot leading ot the stip or they have to convince the fans that they have a huge hatred for wach other, like Sting/Vader. Plus they have to whip the shit out of each other, not pussy Hogan whippings.
Guest krambigmac Posted April 12, 2002 Report Posted April 12, 2002 I actually miss the scaffold match but only the Midnights could really do those without crawling around. The Road Warriors did it pretty well with them but now, Hawk would fall off ala TitanTron. The Rock and Rolls must have been good but I never saw the Starrcade 87 match. However I did see the Bash 91 match and PN News had his best match there since he didn't move.
Guest razazteca Posted April 12, 2002 Report Posted April 12, 2002 6 man tag team matches were fun to watch in the NWA/WCW days with Road Warriors & Dusty Rhodes vs Barbian & Warlord & Ivan Koloff no rope barbwire matches manager handcuff to the ring or suspended above the ring Clash of Champion 1 Flair vs Sting
Guest dreamer420 Posted April 12, 2002 Report Posted April 12, 2002 World War 3 was always a pretty cool event. Seeing three rings together and sixty men inside them is a pretty awesome visual. I watched the one from 96 last night where Savage won the title and it was pretty good.
Guest WWF4Life Posted April 12, 2002 Report Posted April 12, 2002 I haven't seen a Stretcher match for ages...the last one was the Van Dam-Sabu one in ECW. What else? Kanyon turned on DDP during that match giving Awesome the win. Yeah, you're right, although they were actually Ambulance matches, since Russo was intent on creating a 'new' gimmick match every week. The Graveyard match was brutal, as was the Viagra on a Pole match. That said, the House of Pain match was a pretty good idea, as was the three cage War Games.
Guest dreamer420 Posted April 13, 2002 Report Posted April 13, 2002 [faarooq] damn [/faarooq] i totally forgot that they were ambulance matches. i think the object of the match was to put your opponent onto a stretcher and wheel him to the ambulance to be driven away.
Guest Posted April 14, 2002 Report Posted April 14, 2002 Nothing is better than the good old Hair vs Hair match.
Guest Tony149 Posted April 14, 2002 Report Posted April 14, 2002 World War 3 was a clusterfuck. I liked the idea, and I liked the original WW3 in 1995, but the match is hard to see at home. Lots of jobbers. I always thought they should of added Battlebowl as the "newest" PPV instead of WW3. Battlebowl would of been cool to crown the new WCW Champ. Plus, the name "World War 3" would of been a perfect choice for the WWF vs. WCW PPV.
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted April 14, 2002 Report Posted April 14, 2002 I agree Tony because it made a great visual but the camera angles kept screwing up when a ring emptied. The idea of3 differnent teams of announcers was an ok idea but Chris Cruise just sucks and Larry sounded like he would have much rather been in the ring than at the position. BTW, Im referring to the inagural WW3.
Guest Sykotic2002 Posted April 14, 2002 Report Posted April 14, 2002 I never again want to see another Inferno Match or Buried ALive Match. Those are just horrible. I liked the Three Tier Cage, War Games, BattleBowl, Bunkhouse Stampede, Strecher Match
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted April 14, 2002 Report Posted April 14, 2002 inferno matches were just stupid. bunkhouse stampedes were awesome. the tower of doom was good at the GAB 88 and at Slamboree 99. not at uncensored 96 though.
Guest Drury37 Posted April 14, 2002 Report Posted April 14, 2002 How about a regular cage match in the blue cage. The blue cage just made it better.Does anybody notice that there hasn't been any good cage matches in like 5 years in the WWF.I always liked casket matches, too. Thanks.
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 Yeah the wwf mesh cages are too loose and to me theyre not realistic enough to cause blood. The blue cages were solid steel and could definitely cause blood b/c ive been nailed with a golf club while in PE and gushed like a fountain. Cages just arent what they used to be anymore.
