Guest Brian

Can't have a SmackDown thread without a preview:

Hurricane vs. Tajiri

Big Valbowski vs. Godfather

Edge vs. Chris Jericho

Scotty 2 Hotty vs. Albert

Al Snow vs. Chuck

HHH vs. Kurt Angle - non-title

They also taped a Test vs. Faarooq bout which may be inserted into the show.

They may have won te draft...but they are losing the war.

I'm sorry...but RVD and Taker had a good tv match on Raw...and we get this crap with the "stronger" roster.

HHH vs. Angle...*yawn*  Seen it...MANY TIMES

and Edge vs. Jericho would be good...if Edge was in Jericho's league...but alas...Jericho is slumming it.

I wonder if they'll show Vinnie Mac's living out his fantasy.

Cole's forced laugh is annoying.

Damn its that freaking midcarder to start off the show AGAIN! with another one of his promos.  Geeze, how are midcarder promos going to bring in the rating$?

Maybe Edge finally solved the constant "What?" with "YOU SUCK"....which is better.

I think this whole Torrie/Tajiri/Kidman thing is kind of racist.  The pretty white boy saving the pretty white girl from the "evil" Asian.  Vince is such a damn racist.  The Geisha thing is...well, I think it's obvious what it is.

McMahon has turned Tajiri into a streotype.

Damn. Not much of a show so far, but Jericho and Angle are GODS. Imagine the WWF without them. Better yet, don't.

Anyone else think Jericho's actually getting a more focused push and more TV time now than he did when he was champ? Strange, yo?

No.  That's because Steph is no longer around to steal his spotlight and leech off his heat.

Wow, watching cruisers isn't worth this Smackdown! crap.  I think I actually like RAW better.

Try Metal, that's where most of the talent is.

No, it doesn't sound strange to me. I told this board that losing the belts was actually going to HELP Jericho's career.

So does any one else see a eyebrows vs. sideburns match between Billy/Chuck/Rico and Snow/Maven in our near future? I hope Maven loses and has to shave his eyebrows.

Losing the belts didn't help Jericho's career.  Losing Steph did.

It's bad enough HHH makes Angle look like an ass... does he have to show everyone, too?!?  ;)

Seriously, S(McMahon)down is turning into Thunder right before our eyes! Terrible undercard matches, wave after wave of stupid vignettes... I mean, how dumb do you have to be to know Mark Henry wasn't really holding that car back? At least Patera and Putski could actually do it. And really, everyone looked like they were moving at half speed in the ring, even the cruisers.

I won't even go into the Ms. Hancock skit.

And of course, the tried and true "shove the good guy into the other good guy" ending sequence... I actually got a chuckle out of that. I guess the MegaHHHers are exploding now, huh?

I should have watched "Family Guy".

I turned the TV off right after the Snow vs. Chuck match.  I really don't give a damn about Tough Enough, haven;t really watched that in a while.

I've actually found TE2 more entertaining than the last few Smackdowns And I hate reality shows.

I hear Jakked actually has the good wrestlers on this week. Plus you might get to see the Tuscon Screwjob, i.e. Lance Storm inadvertantly jobbing to Funaki.

Sorry if I spoiled it...

I agree. Jericho & Angle have been the lone brightspots so far for the Smackdown brand. No matter how dorky they try to make Angle or how much of a loser they try to turn Jericho into, both always end up rising above the material.

I'd like to see Jericho/Angle get a run with the tag belts. Have Team Tough ENough beat AGD at the PPV and then have Jericho/Angle squash them on tv and run roughshod over the Smackdown brand for a couple months.

They just can't throw people like Kidman back on tv and expect fans to care. Who is Kidman? What's his interest in Torrie? How does it feel to be back in the WWF? They could have easily cut some of the Vince crap and inserted in a backstage interview with Kidman.

Who would have thought when they had this "brand extention" that Albert, Rikishi, Bradshaw and X-Pac would get huge pushes while Lance Storm, Christian, Booker T and Val Venis would still be going nowhere?  J.R. must be in HOSS Heaven right now.

The Hogan/Jericho backstage interview was great! Why the hell couldn't Jericho have cut promos like that when he was feuding with Austin and Triple H?

Edge/Jericho started to get good towards the end. But I have to give Hogan credit. He looked ancient out there and moved like he was carrying Mark Henry, but he did bump for Jericho's forearm to the back. I thought he would stand there and Hulk up while Angle and Jericho ran away.

How insecure is Triple H? I'm pretty sure everyone already knew Angle (and Jericho for that matter) was Triple H's bitch. Stripping him and slapping his ass was pretty much overkill.

Anyone else notice Jericho doing the "Come on baby" pin on Hogan at the end? It'll probably be the highpoint for Jericho in this feud, but a cool moment nonetheless.

I'm just watching the show now, because I had to watch the Robfather get kicked out on Survivor.

Jericho/Edge was the best WWF Match in weeks.

yes you should have it was fucking hilarious. Since i live in Canada I get smackdown earlier then alot of you.

It sucked. the cusier match was o.k. pretty much everything else blew.

I'm not going to watch smackdown when it's going to be this shitty, so it's going to be just Raw,Jakked,Metal for  me. How will i ever survive with only 3 wrestling shows a week?

It would be great if Jericho went shoot on Hogan and injured his legs and back with the Liontamer.  Of course he would get fired but it would ruin the WWF so I'm up for it.

Would it kill them to let the Cruisers work a Cruiserweight style?  Granted, we get some nice spots, but it's followed up by an extended rest (either standing around or lying down).  Cut down on the resting, pick up the pace, just let them do their thing.  It's just "WWF Style" w/ smaller people.

Hey, Helms cut his hair.

Marked out big time for the Angle/Jericho beat-down on Hogan.

If Albert's going to continue to dress like that for his matches, they need to run some kind of warning before he comes out.

Can't Helms ditch the Hurricane thing now? It's had its run.

What kind of pop did Hogan get when he gave the Leg Drop and lifted up the belt near the end (it doesn't air in the UK until tommorow).

That was a good point about the cruisers needing to work their own style of fast paced spotfests.  That sort of thing can get over, you know.  Just take a look at the Invasion match with RVD/Jeff Hardy.  Something happened in that match that just didn't happen on the rest of that show.  It was because those guys wrestled in a style that was completely fresh to WWF fans.  I can guarantee that if the  WWF signed someone like Super Crazy and put him in the ring against Tajiri, then let them do an ECW hardcore cruiser style match the crowd would be in awe.

No one has ever thought about this, but I think the WWF wrestling looks slow because the ring is so big.  In WCW it was easy for cruisers to run the ropes since the ring was smaller.

McMahon has turned Tajiri into a streotype.

Vince may be a racist, but I'm not sure this angle is so offensive. For one thing, T 'n T have been a couple for quite a while, and they've seemed quite happy together. So it seems like it's more of a soap opera-ish "breakup" angle more than anything else. ("I...WANT...A DIVORCE!") And I think Tajiri has gotten his character over to the point where he's himself rather than a stereotype. (Hopefully that makes sense.) The fact that he's Japanese just makes him a bit more exotic, I personally don't think it goes far enough to turn him into a stereotype.

I'm just a little fuzzy on the whole yukata thing. I mean, most Japanese women have a yukata that they wear on holidays and such. (Even some American women I know have them.) I mean, if Tajiri wants Torrie to wear one every now and then, and she doesn't want to, isn't she the one who's being close-minded?

The problem with the angle is that Kidman has no character as of yet. I can't even see him as the heroic Jew battling the evil Asian...

(Random thought: Do you think Austin ever envisioned the audience saying "What?" after Tajiri's speeches?)

Guest Just call me Dan

Man, these threads used to get over a hundred posts and a real in depth conversation just about every time.  We now have 29 posts.

Smackdown really DID suck.

Even if a show was bad, I always loved reading everyone's reaction and their own little commentary between commercials.

Now that has even been taken away from me.

Damn you Vince!
