Guest chirs3 Report post Posted April 12, 2002 --> Michael Cole shouts "What a shot!" right after a top rope hurricanrana. Nice one. --> Quite a few people are saying The Hurricane is a dead end gimmick. I say let him talk. (actually, I say turn him into Cyclone Comet, but not many people will get that) --> Kidman got no crowd reaction for saving Torrie... too bad. --> Albert inexplicably turned on S2H? I recall something about "YOU MADE ME DANCE FOR SIX MONTHS!" I'd break up over something like that. --> Cole... IT'S NOT A BULLDOG! --> Sign: "Test got punked at IHOP!" ... --> +1 for Anglesault's count. --> The Edge-ucator? I coulda sworn it was The Figure Four Edgelock a few weeks ago. --> Jericho taps three seconds into the hold. Beautiful. I can see it now. *wavy screen* Jericho: So Vince, I was thinking maybe my match with Edge tonight could go a little longer than five minutes. Vince: Just for that, you're tapping to the Edge-ucator like a wuss. Jericho: Can't you just shave down the interview segment? Vince: Hahah! Cut down my interview segment! Oh, that's golden. *unwavy screen* --> Scotsman apparently did the fearing tonight, as for a brief second I saw a sign stating "SCOTSMAN FEARS-" and then it went away. I'll check the tape later, unless anyone else knows (I'm guessing Scott Kieth). --> Angle getting his ass slapped in front of the world. Oh how the mighty have fallen. --> And the wrestling tonight? Err... well, let's just say this was the first Smackdown! in a while that did little to entertain me. Your randumb thoughts?
Guest notJames Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I spewed most of my venom in the "One and only..." thread, but... Yes, the sign said "Scotsman fears Scott Keith" The announcers are so horrendous that I just turn the sound down No one reacted to Kidman 'cuz no one cares about Kidman. He was thrown into a love triangle feud with Tajiri and Torrie after almost no background. Hell, most of the WWF faithful have never seen Kidman work or even know what his character's about. Hell, I don't even think the writers know. It's no wonder the crowd went "mild" when he interfered. I see a long, unforgiving road for Tajiri I've already forgotten the rest of the show. Not a good sign, eh?
Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 --> Quite a few people are saying The Hurricane is a dead end gimmick. I say let him talk. (actually, I say turn him into Cyclone Comet, but not many people will get that) I sure dont. Whats it mean? That would be a cool name for a corkscrew moonsault finisher for though. Sign: "Test got punked at IHOP!" ... What was this refering to?
Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 12, 2002 --> Quite a few people are saying The Hurricane is a dead end gimmick. I say let him talk. (actually, I say turn him into Cyclone Comet, but not many people will get that) Sadly I get that joke. my random thoughts: the mute button is a GOOD thing. Albert with no shirt is a BAD thing. The Asistant scetchs sucked and where just vince being his lecherous self. tajiri vs. hurricane was good and a feud with Kidman would be good too... IF the wwf would you know give the feud some backstory and i don't know why not show some wcw fottage of kidman and torrie together to get it through to people they used to be an item? The Kurt Angle spanking thing was just plain embarresing, I bet anglesault had a heartattack.
Guest chirs3 Report post Posted April 12, 2002 There was a sign in the crowd that said "Test got punked at IHOP!" It confused me, is all. Cyclone Comet was a superhero character who belonged to the late and great IGNWF E-fed. The one that became the Smarks' fed. He was incredibly funny behind the scenes, great in the ring, an awesome writer, and I would love to see a real life verision of him.
Guest Smeghead Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Vince seems to have a habit of bringing in wrestlers without telling people who they are. He automatically assumes that everyone knows them, which is obviously not the case. He did the same thing with [insert name of former ECW wrestler here]. I was at the Smackdown taping on Tuesday, and I thought of something that once applied to Triple H, and it definitely applies here too: Kidman runs to the ring and makes the save to a deafening pop! At least it must be deafening, because I don't hear shit.
Guest chirs3 Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Now now, Smegy, Kidman has a great history in the WWF! Don't you remember? He won the Cruiserweight title his first match here, then he lost it to X-pac, then... Uh... Then he... Er... ... Hmm....
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Ah yes, Cyclone Comet...if all goes well, Hurricane should be able to lock Tajiri in a pop machine, eh Chris? I only caught the main event, where Angle got his ass slapped. That was fairly shitty. The only redeeming value is that at the end of the segment, the boot of Y2J was pressed against the chest of the fallen Immortal Hulk Hogan..which made me mark out. Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Just to point that out....in Hurricane's new Tron video, whereever there were shots of Mighty Molly, there are old school Batman like "Pow!"s, and "Wham!"s. Tajiri can't exactly get heel heat screaming Japanese like that. Most fans dont know about Kidmans history with Torrie, cuz they weren't watching then. Guest godthedog Report post Posted April 12, 2002 the second hour was pretty painful at times, but for the first half i thought smackdown really shone. angle's "play my music!...no, don't play my music!" was golden; it was very cool to watch jericho make hogan his verbal bitch (even if he was just putting over trips); jericho & edge had a hell of a match that the crowd was WAY into; helms & tajiri had a good match with a simple, strong angle in regards to kidman that i'm liking. i also liked the old school mind games at the beginning of the main event. enjoyable show, & if you cut about 40 minutes it's definitely a step in the right direction. Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted April 12, 2002 What I can't stand about Smackdown is the piped in crowd effects. When the crowd was chanting has been at Jericho, I felt like I was back in 1999 playing WWF Attitude. I hate when they do that shit because it insults the viewers' intelligence. Are we to belive that the crowd is yelling and screamiing and calling for blood despite the fact that it looks likemost of them are sitting down and not saying anything? The first time I noticed that was during Thunder's last days. I would hear raucous crowd chants but wonder who the hell was chanting.
Guest Cataclysm911 Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Smackdown was dull & boring to me. I don't really have much to add that hasn't already been said other than I like Hogan more than Triple H. Sad really, because Triple H was such an amazing heel before his injury.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I can't stand the piped in crowd noise either. If they *have* to do it, you'd at least think they could make it a little less obvious.

Plenty of times when I was watching the show, I was like "is this canned heat? shit just doesnt sound real". The crowd would inexplicably fade in and out, and like you said, it sounded like "video game" crowd heat. And it seemed like Jericho was getting somewhat of a babyface pop, then all of a sudden, you hear "yeaahBOOOOOOOO". I dunno why the WWF does stuff like that; it makes them look kinda dumb (like JR and the "mixed reaction" at Wrestlemania X8...like Scott Kieth said, it made him look like Tony Shivonie). Joe P. Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Yeah, guys like Kidman come in and are now on TV weekly with no intro or nothing (and from a previous thread, this would also be a great way to give that WCW video library a great workout...put together some packages on the WCW guys, give them a proper intro...Kidman's had some sick matches, and most WWF fans dont even know about them), yet The Rock (who i dont hate or nothin') is gone for 2 weeks and gets a video tribute. WTF??? Joe P.

Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I like that they appear to be turning Tajiri heel and Kidman face with Torrie caught in the middle. Should be a pretty good feud. The rest of the show was pretty crappy.
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I enjoyed both shows this week. The split seems to have, at the very least, given the writers more focus. They now have a week to mull over storylines, and they seem to be trying to form them a little better now. That's just the impression that I get after two weeks. All in all, though, the wrestling was pretty good and the Kurt Angle content was through the roof. Thus, Smackdown = Good.
Guest notJames Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Tajiri/Kidman could be good if they'd just tell the story right. The buildup to this has been nonexistent and it stems from the fact that we haven't been given a reason to like Kidman other than the fact that he beat Tajiri for the belt, who people do like (or did). I hate to say it, but Tajiri's non-use of English is also hampering the feud's progression. We have to rely on the commentary of Beavis and Butthead, who couldn't give us a recipe for boiling water, let alone outline the intracacies of this feud, as small as they may be. Cole's over-the-top proclamation that Tajiri is a chauvinist was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Cole was being way more chauvinistic, mentioning Torrie's looks and body, not even touching upon the possibility that she's got more going on. Not that you can tell by her acting ability, but you see what I'm getting at. Their eventual wrestling match should be superlative in the end, but shouldn't we care how they got there?
