Guest Downhome Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Ok, I'm sure I don't have to tell ya what happened on Smackdown concerning D-von, but I must ask... ...what do you think of this new "Crooked Pastor" gimmick? It's interesting, to say the least, and my being a Christian, I am still able to look at it as simply a Pro. Wrestling gimmick meant to be just a funny parody. D-von seems to have the look and the sound to pull off this type of thing, so why not give it to him? If they were to give ANYTHING like this to ANYONE, then D-von is the guy. The question however, is just how far will the WWF take this angle, and at what point will all of the "religious fanatics" begin to come ouf of the wood work? I'm actually looking forward to see where the WWF goes with this. Are they going to push D-von as one of Vince's "boys"? Are they going to actually push him as a credible threat now? Who in the world is the guy going to feud with in this gimmick? What type of theme song will he now come out to? Or better yet... ...what in the world will his interviews, promos, and other type things be like? Anyhow, what do you guys think about this and where do you see it going? Sincerely, ...Downhome... Guest notJames Report post Posted April 12, 2002 He'll probably do a pseudo Right-To-Censor gimmick with a religious bent... denounce the filth of certain wrestlers, attack scantilly-clad women, that kind of thing. Just as long as he doesn't take a cue from certain priests as of late...
Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 It's only fitting that Organized Religion is linked with corruption D-Von could preach about the virtues of the heels (Angle, Jericho, Billy and Chuck). He could also praise Mr. McMahon constantly. He shouldn't be RTC, he should be corruptly religious. All he needs is to mention some verses that justify him beating up his opponents (like the ones about killing and enslaving pagans)
Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Does D-Von actually know alot of the Bible or does it all jsut get written in for him?
Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 12, 2002 religous gimmicks never ever work.
Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 They would have worked if the WWF let Warrior preach that he was the Messiah and that he achieved nirvana in the valley of Nepal.

Warriortology is superior to Hoganism! it was proven at Wrestlemania VI, when Warrior won the title of SAVIOR from Hulk Hogan.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 12, 2002 i'm trying to forget about warrior. which reminds me. i was in the smarkchat and we were dissing warrior and this guy pm'd me and gave me the phone number to the person he claims is the ultimate warrior!! Should i phone it?
Guest Risk Report post Posted April 12, 2002 D-Von's father is a pastor. I would think he wouldn't like Billy and Chuck, because homosexuality is denounced in Judaism/Christianity. I'm a Christian as well, be intresting to see how this turns out.

Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 It could be the return of Brother "IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE YOOOOOUUUUUUUU!" Love. Same gimmick different person.
Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I like his new gimmick. It will be interesting to see how it turns out. They could bring in Fallen Angel Christopher Daniels to feud or tag with him, but we all know that will never happen.
Guest Smeghead Report post Posted April 12, 2002 D-von definitely has the voice for something like this. Plus, this might be a good way for him to start using the Dudley Commandments again. 1) Thou shalt not steal! 2) Thou shalt not kill! 3) Thou shalt not mess with the Dudleys! As with all gimmicks, there's a right way to do it and there's a wrong way. Let's hope they use the right way.

Should i phone it? Do it! All right I just tried "ultimate warrior's" phone number, and unless he's had a sex change operation than it's a phony number. Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I think it's a bit too gimmicky, but the guy's supposedly the half brother of a white guy and an Indian, so I guess it's a step up. This gimmick would also give D'Von the chance to speak a lot. He totally impressed me over the past two weeks.
Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I like the gimmick... the reverend slick, he's not, but I always wondered (as pretty much a Dudley "newbie") where the "testify!" line came from.... this fits nicely. D-Von and Godfather, who just quit (on Jakked/Metal no less) the pimp business should team up vs. Valbowski. No? hmmm....
Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 12, 2002 that would kill the dvon push, godfather can't get over without ho's.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 12, 2002 D-von should use some of Samuel L Jackson's qoutes from Pulp Fiction such as... "Say "what" again. SAY "WHAT" AGAIN! I dare you, I double dare you, motherfucker! Say "what" one more goddamn time!" "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee." may have to shorten that some into maybe this... "I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee." I'd enjoy hearing him say those. And the bible is chock full of more crazy evil sounding shit that he could use. As long as they make him a "evil preacher" and not a "we will not tolerate this filth" rtc type preacher it COULD be entertaining. Maybe he can be a Kung Fu Priest who "kicks ass for the looord". Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Even prior to tonight, I kind of liked the "TESTIFYYYYYYY" line, plus I'm strongly against organized religion, so this gimmick works for me well. It will just be odd for this character to transition from promos to wrestling. Remember when Regal was seen less in his burgandy tights but more setting tables and discusing silverware? His transition to another typical wrestler just kind of appeared out of nowhere.
Guest Cataclysm911 Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I think that it is just another WWF stereotype. Now, I don't have anything wrong with stereotypes, but as someone pointed out to me on another message board, the WWF seems to rely on them.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Report post Posted April 12, 2002 It's not exactly an original idea, but I think D-Von can pull it off on the mic...I'm not sure if anyone will care about his matches though.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Give D-von the assitance of The Sinister Minister aka James Vandenburg for added effects~! They could even have their own interview segment/theater skits....har har, this could be good...
Guest Ripper Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I think the most important thing of the whole promo was Devon trying to get money out of Vince...He is doing the crooked Rev. deal. I guarentee there will be scenes of Devon getting caught with strippers, alcohol and cheating alot in the ring and will still try to act like he is doing it all "for tha lord!!" I highly doubt it is going to be a indictment on organized religion.
Guest buffybeast Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I like and I dislike Devon's new gimmick. As someone stated earlier, his preacher man persona is a little to "gimmicky" for my tastes. But if there is anyone who can pull this off, it is Devon. He has the voice and the mic skills to make it work. I won't slam it yet, because I think it may work depending upon what the writers do next.

I guarentee there will be scenes of Devon getting caught with strippers, alcohol and cheating alot in the ring and will still try to act like he is doing it all "for tha lord!!" Hey, Brother Love was a parody of Jimmy Swaggart...why not D-Von Dudley? After all, "attitude" era permits them to go a step further (B.L. couldn't get caught with hookers on Saturday Morning Superstars, for example). "Ah have sinned-uh against yeeeuuuuuuuuu." Spoken with all the sincerity of a used-car salesman. Or maybe D-Von could host some Hour of Power type thingy and bring back the old school interview set thingies. Yes, this angle could work. The RTC could've worked too. But these just seem to be the gimmicks where the writers take the hack's way out, half-ass it, and never bother taking it anywhere meaningful. Something ALWAYS happens to these sorts of angles and gimmicks. In this case, it'll probably be teaming up Minister D-Von with Guru DDP. And I can just see Michael Cole calling them hyporcites 83 times a match, just like he did in the RTC days, and them never evolving beyond that point, and the whole idea fizzling out. Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I think it's a pretty good idea for D-Von, nice suit too! On another religous note, did anyone else catch Trips calling himself the King of Kings? I'm Pagan all the way, but even I thought that was way tackier than D-Von's preacher gimmick.
Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I'm a devout Christian, and I take absolutely no offence to D-Von's gimmick. As stated earlier, it can work if played correctly. Yeah, HHH's Smackdown promo really showed his weakness at babyface promos. "I am the King of Kings...I am...The Game." Even my friend (and pretty big HHH fan) was like "that was lame". His babyface promos just lack something, and his timing is wierd. Joe P.
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted April 12, 2002 D-Von with Mr. McMahon will be a comedic heel which equals always getting squashed or looking like a jackass with the occassional win over a non-over jobber. I say he and Booker T will be on the same page. He could be very serious, almost a psycho preacher. Kind of like undying and extremely intense because of his strong belief in his cause. He could really denounce the ways of the faces without taking any consideration the actions of the heels and be a constant thorn in the face's side. His mic work could get him over, all he needs is good placement on the card and have a bone to pick with someone who actually matters to the fans. If he is a blundering jackass who just gets beat up and is a joke, his gimmick will fail and it will be all "his" fault. I am a Christian, I am not offended, I have a lot of hope for this gimmick, but I'm also not stupid, I'm pretty sure this will flop.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I think the gimmick will flop too. This just shows to me that the Dudley's are going to be broken for quite awhile now, maybe even forever, and the wwf is going to regret that decision.
