Guest imajackoff? Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I just got finished watching the tape of tonites Smackdown and I was struck by something they did in the last match that I dont think they would have had the forethought to do a month ago. The part of Im referring to is in end when Angle hits HHH who then goes crashing into Hogan, who has his back turned. Hogan, of course thinks that HHH attacked him and this gives him a reason to go after him and eventually drop the leg. This let all 3 people involved keep their heel/face heat with their characters all acting as they should have. I know this has been done before and its certainly not akin to discovering plutonium, but hell, 4 weeks ago they werent even getting the basics right. Another thing I liked this week is the evolution of the Angle/Jericho alliance over the last two weeks. Last week, they were adversarial over who should be the #1 contender. This week, after both had be shunned by the Hogan declaration, they join forces to rage against the HHH's. That's pretty sound, and dare I say, believable booking. Egads. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I don't know if it's improved. But i've noticed that they do seem more focused now. It also helps that they are following up stuff now, for awhile they'd drop stuff after one show. I think they are just trying alot harder to iron out the details now making everything look better. Angles look like they are being put together with more thought now then looking like they were glued together an hour before the show. Maybe they brought in some new writers and reorganized the writing department. Or it could be that anything looks good when Stephy isn't on tv.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted April 12, 2002 It hasn't improved much since the bullshit put me to sleep and I missed the event that you are talking about. Why the hell did they need to waste time with Vince McMahon choosing Stacey as his assistant? Does anyone care about that bullshit?
Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 12, 2002 It hasen't improved. smackdown sucked shit. the only good thing is that i don't have to watch this stupid shit with Vince on Raw. I betcha all the review shows do a full recap of the skit though. Any takers??
Guest Cataclysm911 Report post Posted April 12, 2002 The writing seems the same to me. I have yet to really be impressed w/ the Smackdown brand, yet due to less clusterfucking the RAW show seems to have improved. At least for this week.
Guest Risk Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I'm getting tired of all the corny heels and faces. They seem to overplay they are "good" or "bad" in the way their character acts. Why can't they just act like real people instead of force feeding us: THE NEVER ENDING BATTLE BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL~! I mean, do they want the WWF to fail? Maybe if ONCE in a while they pushed the wrestlers as legit atheltes and not "characters", they would get more fans. Right now I think the marks are looking for more sports and less entertainment. Guest Risk Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Besides, you can only condition and brainwash fans into watching for so long. I turned off Smackdown! after the Snow/Chuck match BTW.
Guest Cataclysm911 Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I agree. Gimmicks like "The Hurricane" should probably be scrapped as well.
Guest Risk Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I mean, what ever happened to ATTEMPTING to get wrestlers over as credible(not Justin) athletes? When you have the stupid gimmicks and predictable outcomes(face over heal cleany, heel cheating a lot, heel berating the fans, face kissing the fans' asses, the hot tag, ect) it is hard for someone to take it seriously.
