Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Smarks... I know this is one month early, but i believe that what i am starting now, should run right up into the month of May..the same month that only three years ago, a hero to many and entertainer to all, one Owen Hart, fell to his death. Now im not any 'split-second Owen Fan' (A person who became an Owen Hart fan the day he died), i didn't decide to go around saying that Owen was my hero just because of his death. I can honestly say that when i began my interest into the wrestling industry, the Hart Brothers, Bret & Owen were, not only the first wrestlers i actually knew, but they were my favourite. I loved the way Bret was the good guy, and i loved the way Owen brought the best out of Bret, like no-one else ever could reproduce. Owen was far more than just your average 'wrestler', Owen was full of charismatic spark, something which lit up an interview, added humour to a show, and left you either in stitches from laughter, or in sheer anger at the fact he was hacking into your favourite superstar. Owen posessed unbelieveable talent, much like his brother Bret, and his father Stu before him. In the world of wrestling, Owen did more than surpass his brother's shadow, he extended the Hart tradition and gave it new heights, such as adding to the mix that Owen could pull off all the high flying moves you could dream of, while Bret could make a match an 'A-Grade Submission extravaganza'. Owen proved that Harts wern't just technical wrestlers...but they could pull off any wrestling style invented...which is beyond admirable. Owen gave us all many, many memories, whether it be his classic encounters with his brother, his King of the Ring win, his brilliant showdown's with the likes of Shawn Michaels, Triple H and Diesel, or maybe just his hilariously intelligent interviews that not only displayed amazing flare, but showed that Owen wasn't just a wrestler, but a phenominal actor as well. I never saw the ironically titled Over the Edge, 1999...and to tell you the truth, im glad i didn't. But i remember the night it happend...i tuned into the local news and saw the headlines "WRESTLER FALLS TO HIS DEATH"...i prepared myself for the worst..but i had no idea it was Owen. Then it finally hit me, the news segment showing Owen falling to his demise...to say i was shocked would be an understatement, i think we all were. To see a person we were familiar with, and dare i say took for granted, end his life there and then was something very very wrong. I realise this is all a little early, but i think this will give everyone a great oppurtunity to express their fondest memories of the fine performer that was Owen Hart, and what they loved most about him...as i believe if anyone deserves star treatment, its Owen. He gave us his life for our entertainment, he gave his life for the business and the fans which he loved so very much...and for that fact alone, Owen should be praised, if anything, for his amazing work ethic. The night Owen died, the wrestling world suffered a gun shot wound by which i honestly believe it has yet to recover from...unfortunately for us, no matter how many posts we all make, no matter how many tears we shed...nothing will bring Owen back to our television screens, MORE IMPORTANTLY bring his children a father back, or his wife a husband back...as they are the true victims of this. While its understandable that we all be unhappy when the though of never seeing our Owen wrestle again, we all too need to express our sympathy for the innocents in this...Owens wife and kids. So from here, all we can do is sit around and share our opinions on Owen, whether you were a fan of his early or latter work...or even all of it, this is the place where we should all share how Owen made wrestling special for us all. We'll have superstars in the future no doubt...but we'll never have another Owen. Rest in peace Mr. Hart, i know i'll never forget what you did for your fans. Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I just came across an intresting quote on a wrestling site... "After Owen Hart is buried, the sleaze that has become wrestling will go on. And the fans will cheer, once again"
Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Owen-Bret, WrestleMania X. One of the BEST pure wrestling matches EVER. that is how I choose to remember/honor Owen Hart (I pop it in every so often just for that match and HBK/Razor). I think that's how he would like to be remembered in the wrestling world, and its a PERFECTLY fitting tribute to a great man. Joe P.
Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I'd just like to say that I did take Owen for granted. I didn't like Owen at first because I was little and he was a heel. Then, as I got older and more mature and he had his face run, I began to like him, then I thought he went stale in his Nation angle. Once, however, he broke away from that, I really enjoyed watching Owen and I really liked the alliance he had with Jeff Jarett. Even as much as I liked him, I never fully realized how much he meant to wrestling and to me until his death and I think that's a very unfortunate thing. So, as my tribute, here is my Owen Moment. Owen and Yokozuna winning the tag team titles at Wrestlemania XI. Okay, so the two were very mismatched as far as wrestling skill went, but this was very big for Owen in my opinion. He proved then and continued to prove for the rest of his career that he was much more than just Bret Hart's brother. It was the first of his numerous WWF title reigns and it's just great watching him jump around the ring holding his title, always brings a smile to my face. Guest notJames Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I saw Over The Edge at a friend's house about six blocks away. The room got really silent when Jim Ross finally announced that Owen passed away. 10 minutes later, everyone was back to normal, except me. Coming home after the PPV, the first thing my wife asked me was if what she saw on the news was true. I told her it was. Even she knew how much Owen meant to me as a wrestling fan. From the first time I saw the Blue Blazer do that "run-the-ropes-and-flip-out-of-the-armwringer" to his heel turn against Bret to his Lion's Den match with Ken Shamrock and everything in between, he was always my little guilty pleasure, while the big plodding main eventers clogged the majority of airtime. A consummate professional, a world-class athlete, a true performer. I still watch the "Raw is Owen" episode I taped from time to time, if only to remember how others were affected by his passing, and to remind myself that though we are not long for this world, we can make our mark and be remembered for the good things we do. You will always be missed, Owen.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted April 13, 2002 I remember listening to the PPV thru static and after JR announced Owen died, I shut off the TV, went upstairs, and basically cried myself to sleep. I didn't even care what happened on the PPV after that. I was 12 at the time, but I would probably do the same thing now. I also took Owen for granted. After his death, I realized how much of a fan I actually WAS of him. Bret was my hero, role model, and idol in wrestling and in life. I really didn't care for Owen, but I was a younger kid and I was a "mark", so for obvious reasons, I didn't like Owen. In 1999, he was really not where he should of been, and that was mid-carding. Owen should of been main-eventing after Bret left and he "feuded" with HBK/HHH. It's a shame that happened. Since then, I have basically stated I'm a huge Hart Family mark and always will be. I know I have said this before time after time, Owen is fucking missed and each day of life I always think of an Owen memory or just a thought of Owen. Owen, we love you...and you are still missed. Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted April 13, 2002 i met Owen outside of The Ocean City Civic Center in ocean city maryland. bigelow and jim neidhart wouldnt give an autograph but owen totally broke character and gave me one. even tho bret almost ran over a little 7 year old(me) who was wanting an autograph. i started becoming interested in owen when i was 10 and i was 13 when he died. it just sent chills down my spine when he died and i spent the whole night crying and i seriously never wanted to watch the wwf again. but i tuned in the next nite for raw and was very moved. wcw was in my hometown of greenville on that monday but i didnt go. i felt obliged to watch the show that was for owen. wcw changed the way sting was to arrive in the bilo center from repelling from the ceiling to driving his monster truck. as i watched the show alone in my dark room, i felt so moved my mark henry's poem and HHH's speech that i cried for the remainder of the show. as steve austin toasted a beer to owen's picture to close the show, i just wanted to stand up and cheer for owens life, memory, and the way the wwf handled it all. god bless you owen. you will be missed by everyone that you touched in your short life. Guest Report post Posted April 13, 2002 I remember that, around the time Owen died, I felt that I had been taking him for granted in the same way that I had been taking Brian Pillman for granted at the time of his death. I was angry at myself for repeating that mistake. It's a shame that he never really got his due, and still doesn't, really. It's a shame that, immediately post-Montreal, when Owen was set up by circumstance for major heat, that the top two were HBK and Austin, whom both couldn't (and wouldn't) work with him. [What an all-too perfect Corporate Assassin he would have made for Vince to send after Austin in the early days of that feud...wouldn't it have been much better for Owen to have been WWF champ for a day instead of Kane?] I will always remember the Lethal Enzu Giri of Immediate Doom as one of my all time favorite finishers, and I will always remember him coming out in the "Owen 3:16 -- I just broke your neck" T-shirt (my favorite t-shirt in wwf history, apart from Brian Pillman's "I don't call 911" handgun shirt). I'll remember the years-long feud with Bret and the great matches it gave us, not just the WM10 classic but their Summerslam cage deal. I'll remember Owen crying when Bret recruited him back to the fold in 97 for the Evil Hart Foundation with the stories of how he stuck up for him as a little kid. I remember when he was Intercontinental Champion, he was wrestling Bob "Sparkplug" Holly in Holly's home town in a non-title match...Owen did the J.O.B. to him and let him pick up a win in his hometown when most likely nobody else would've. But most of all, I will always remember how Owen won that Intercontinental Title; and I'll always fondly remember Owen as being the man who FINALLY put an end to the hideous IC title reign of Rocky Miavia...after weeks of "Die Rocky Die" The Blue Chipper was stopped. Thank you, Owen, for entertaining me even when I wasn't aware enough to appreciate it.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted April 13, 2002 As a kid my two favourites wrestlers in 1994 were Bulldog and Bret so I always loved seeing Owen 'get his'. Even though I was young and a mark I knew that Owen was one of the best. As I got older and became smart Owen was one of my favourites. He was just so hilarious as a whiny ass heel that you loved to hate the guy. The morning of May 24th,1999 i turned on the radio and they said coming up: news on a tragic wrestling death. I thought they meant some local wrestler or something but then I heard Owen Hart and was like: oh my god. At school that day all my wrestling friend fans and I just told Owen stories and remembered his greatest moments. It was a nice way of remembering the King of Harts. My two favourite Owen moments- WMX. The match MADE Owem and is the greatest match ever. I was watching an old Coliseum tape and wen and Bret are locking up. Bret pushes Owen away and Owen jumps and down and starts to celebrate. Its just too funny. I miss ya' Owen.

Even though I was young and a mark I knew that Owen was one of the best. I can relate there, my brother's favourite wrestler was Owen Hart while mine was Bret Hart. I've lost count the number of "Bret's better than Owen" arguments (which eventually led to me applying my famous headlock onto him) we had over that time period. Funny how one man can affect so many peoples lives.
Guest Report post Posted April 13, 2002 I was just thinking about this and I think Owen has to be up there for most tag title reigns with different partners. He won it twice with Rodneyzuna, once with the Bulldog, and once with JJ. I know Billy Gunn tops that, but nobody likes him anyway, so Owen's record is better.
