Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted April 12, 2002 To all who have seen this movie, I think you'll agree with me here: IT KICKS ASS I'm watching it for the second time in a day. I haven't done that with any movie since The Crow. For those who haven't seen this wonderful horror movie, I'll try to explain... Brigitte and Ginger are 2 sisters, neither of which have had their period yet (Brigitte is 15, Ginger is 16). They're into death, and do constant reports on death for classes in school, most of which consist of them doing murder scenes with each other (all of which are very cool, and very creative). One night, they plan on fucking around with the head of this girl from school they both hate, so they decide to go to her house to kidnap her dog. Over the past few weeks, a creature of some sort has been attacking dogs in the town and tearing them piece-by-piece. While on the way to the girl's house, the sisters find the corpse of a dog, which is still warm. A howl is heard, and then something attacks Ginger. Brigitte and Ginger escape, and the thing that attacked them gets hit by a car chasing after them. Ginger then begins to go through "changes." I'll leave it at that. Needless to say, it's ****, IMO, on the regular movie scale, and ***** on the horror movie scale. Only "bad" part of the movie is the ending, which is a bit sudden. Unfortunately, the ending also leaves room for a sequel, and knowing independent film companies and horror movies...you get the idea. Best horror movie since Phantasm, hands-down. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 12, 2002 You're insane if you think this movie was good. It was total crap by a bunch of retarded canadians. Guest Report post Posted April 13, 2002 Great film! Make sure you get the Canadian DVD. Artisan sucks ass, and they proved it with the crappy DVD version they released.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted April 15, 2002 Great film! Make sure you get the Canadian DVD. Artisan sucks ass, and they proved it with the crappy DVD version they released. Where can I get the Canadian DVD? Are Canadian DVDs Region 1? I totally agree on the movie. It's the best horror movie I've seen in a long time, I was actually going to write a column about it before I decided writing a review for a bare-bones DVD is stupid. Oh, and nobody read my review columns anyway... hey, is SmarksDVD going to be on the new site? 'Cuz I really would like to keep writing columns, maybe if it was on the actual site instead of hidden away on the message-board they would ???
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted April 15, 2002 Unfortunately, the ending also leaves room for a sequel, and knowing independent film companies and horror movies...you get the idea. Actually, I believe two sequels have already been filmed, and they will be released later this year, probably in the fall. SPOILER WARNING! I don't understand how they can be called "Ginger Snaps" though if there is no "Ginger". Hmmmm.... maybe she's not dead? That'd be kinda cheesy though. I trust they can figure it out though. In a related department of Canadian independent feature sequels, anyone know a release date for Cube 2: Hypercube? I saw a trailer on a feature I rented recently and it looks great, maybe even an improvement on the original, which I didn't really like that much.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 15, 2002 Where can I get the Canadian DVD? Are Canadian DVDs Region 1? Region 1 is all of North America. It's pretty easy to find the Canadian DVDs on Ebay i see some everytime i've looked. If you don't like or don't want to use Ebay i'm sure there are DVD stores on the internet that have them. Heres a link to ebay search results for Ginger Snap, you'll just have look for Canadian Edition on it. http://search-desc.ebay.com/search....EndSort
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted April 15, 2002 I actually won't mind sequels to Ginger Snaps, as long as they... 1. Consider themselves CONTINUATIONS of the story. A continuation is different than a sequel, as a sequel is, practically, the previous film with some added elements. A continuation takes place where the previous film left off, adds new elements, and remembers the previous film to a T. See: Phantasm through Phantasm: OblIVion. 2. Keep Emily Perkins and Mimi Rogers. Mimi Rogers was fucking great as the suburban mom that doesn't want to lose her daughters, and Emily Perkins is the epitome of everything that is good when 24-year-old's portray 15-year-olds. Why? Because she actually LOOKS and ACTS like she's 15. Just when you thought the best things Canadia could produce were edible (maple syrup) or in the WWF, Emily Perkins and this entire movie comes along...dammit, now I have no reason to hate Canada. Oh, wait...Test...BWAHAHAHA~!~!~ What features does the Canadian DVD have? Deleted Scenes? Commentaries? What? EDIT: evenflowDDT, where'd you hear the news on Ginger Snaps sequels? I looked it up on IMDB.com, and nothing came up...
Guest Report post Posted April 15, 2002 I haven't heard anything about any Ginger Snaps sequels in the works, so I'd write that off as rumour and nothing more. As for the Canadian DVD, it has deleted scenes, docu's, commentary by the director & screenwriter and a lot of other stuff. It's worth the search if you live in the U.S., cuz the America release really is garbage. Here is a picture of the cover for the Canadian DVD.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted April 16, 2002 It was reported in Fangoria... never actually read the magazine but it's usually a fairly reliable source. http://www.diabolical-dominion.com/News/03_07ginger.shtml There's a website with a summary of the Fangoria article. Unfortunately, both will have different writers and directors... doesn't look too good. Oh, and I made a mistake, instead of a probable release in the fall, that's when they're going to start shootings, so they'll probably be around late summer 2003, assuming both come out at the same time. What IS coming out later this year, is Wishmaster 4: The Prophecy Fulfilled, which is certainly enough of a DTV horror title to make up for the lack of Ginger Snaps sequels in my book . Guest Report post Posted April 16, 2002 I buy Fangoria every month, and the latest issue, nor any other issue before it have mentioned anything about a sequel(s) to Ginger Snaps. The website doesn't mention it, and neither does UpcomingMovies.com, but if they are planning on making these back to back sequels with different directors and writers chances are they will suck. I can't say I'm looking forward to Wishmaster 4. Part 3 sucked (they couldn't even get Andrew Divoff), and I'm sure part 4 will be more of the same. I'll save my excitment for Sleepaway Camp 4. The website doesn't mention it, and neither does UpcomingMovies.com, but if they are planning on making these back to back sequels with different directors and writers chances are they will suck. Hmmmm... if it's not mentioned in Fangoria, then that must mean the website was wrong, at least in that aspect. I don't know, I kinda hope the whole thing is wrong and they really aren't making any sequels (I'm extremely pessimistic for horror sequels to movies I actually like, as I believe a poor sequel can detract from the original film, especially if it was written to suggest sequels, as almost every horror movie, good or bad, has). As for Fangoria, I've heard a lot about it and horror conventions, but never actually been to one or read the magazine, like I mentioned. Is it a good magazine? Is it expensive? What are some of the big horror conventions and are they worth it too? Or is it like the stereotypical Star Trek convention but with stereotypically fat/geeky/smart-alecky/know-it-all horror fans drooling over Debbie Rochon instead of stereotypically fat/geeky/smart-alecky/know-it-all Trekkies? Guest Report post Posted April 18, 2002 I've been reading Fangoria for about 15 years. If you really like horror movies, it's a good read. It's fairly expensive (not sure how much it is in the U.S., but it's $10 here in Canada), but I don't mind because I enjoy it. They have good interviews and articles, and I like the video/DVD reviews. As for the conventions, I've only been to one (NYC, 2001). It was a lot of fun. You have your typical geeky types that show up at those kind of shows, but the atmosphere is more relaxed. Celeb's seem to have more fun and they don't charge for pictures and autographs (a Fangoria policy). Plus, you can buy a lot of stuff if you are into collecting. They usually get decent guests. The one I went to had Bruce Campbell, Tom Atkins, Danielle Harris, Kane Hodder, Gunnar Hansen, the cast of The Forsaken and a Sleepaway Camp reunion (oh yeah). It was fun. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 I wouldn't call it a ***** star horror movie, I'd say around ***1/2. It was a throwback to the goofy, cheesy 80's horror movies with Mimi Rogers stealing every scene she was in. It was better than most of the crap they call horror movies out now but it wasn't a classic.
