Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 "Smackdown finished with a 3.5 broadcast rating, with a six share, last night. That is down pretty badly from last week's 4.1." 1wrestling.com Why did the show do so bad? I thought it was a much better show than Raw, but Raw's rating is staying stable, while Smackdown's dropped huge. Smackdown has the better roster of wrestlers as well. Is it because there are fresh new storylines on Raw and the storylines on Smackdown are basically the same as before the split? If I was a casual fan that hasn't watched in a few weeks and I turned into Smackdown, I wouldn't know there was even a split.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted April 12, 2002 It's because those stupid fans don't get the edge of your seat Angle/Edge feud, Can't appreciate the intensity of HHH/HHH and look over that gripping Henry/Test feud. The solution? CONTINUE TO SHOVE IT DOWN OUR THROATS, BAYBEE!
Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Because as much as you guys hate them, the nWo is actually a ratings draw. You guys failed to understand that when they pulled the 5.3 and 5.4 back to back's. The nWo is not dead in the fans eyes. And at Backlash hopefully they will get a shot to have an actual storyline.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Smackdown sucked. That's why the ratings were bad. I came late on it, saw one segment and fell asleep when Vince McMahon frolicked down the ramp.
Guest Special K Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Well, if that's the case, with Nash gone next week, we'll see if XXXpaaaac is the draw he claims to be. Shit, I'm a fairly big Hall mark, and I don't think the nWo can draw flies at this point.
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I think it's more of a "Smackdown sucks" thing, than an nWo thing. Honestly, I think Raw has been the better show, though I wasn't really convinced in the first week. This last week's Raw was really good, though, and both Raws have been waaaaay better than the Smackdown shows, IMO.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted April 12, 2002 I don't think it was the nWo....I'm pretty sure Austin signing and the Undertaker losing his title shot had a lot to do with RAW's rating. Moreso than the nWo.
Guest Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Venture outside your living room one Monday and go watch RAW at a Bar or something and you will see what I mean. The nWo, Austin, and Flair are drawing right now. No other way to get around it.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Umm...seems how I'm 17 I don't think I'll be venturing into any bars soon. And the nWo is a part of the rating but you made it sound like they were the only reason that the ratings are consistent. And I said that Austin returning and signing probably had more to do with the rating than the nWo.
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted April 12, 2002 Austin, Undertaker, yes. nWo, no. One comment heard from the college Bar when X-Pac came down to face Kane: "Shit, that dude looks like he's walking down the aisle, modeling Victoria's Secret" I think, if anything, people see the nWo almost in the same light as the old nWo B-Team. It's a comedy thing now, I guess.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted April 13, 2002 Smackdown sucked. Are you kidding me? You got to watch that gripping Angle/Edge feud! And you saw the match made AND a "funny" quip from Edge. Now you can say that you saw the exact moment that Kurt Angle's career got flushed down the hopper!
Guest Report post Posted April 13, 2002 Reason it did so bad: 1-Smackdown isn't live 2- Rock wasn't on 3- HHH beat Angle again 4- Started with Edge "Comedy" skit.
Guest Brian Report post Posted April 13, 2002 I'm looking at it as the common fans are seeing Hogan and McMahon or Austin and Flair. And they're pulling towards Austin and Flair.
Guest papacita Report post Posted April 13, 2002 Damn. Aside from that dumb ass assistant job interview thing and the fact that McMahon is even on TV at all, I thought Smackdown was damn good. Only thing is I think they rushed Tajiri's heel turn. I mean, if the announcers actually have to take the time to tell fans why hey shouldn't like Tajiri, then they'd be better off selling him as a face. Becsides that, Smackdown was good. Oh, and the HHH/Hogan backstage thing was too long.
Guest Report post Posted April 13, 2002 papacita05, did you miss Albert vs Scotty 2 Hotty? Nevermind that, did you see ALBERT?
Guest ZGangsta Report post Posted April 13, 2002 Why is RAW more succesfull than Smackdown so far?? Say it with me folks. R V D
Guest Nater Report post Posted April 13, 2002 Yeah, I almost changed the channel when I saw Albert. Watching every Raw and Smackdown for who knows how long, through every stinkface, every WORM, every Steph angle, every Lita interview... and I almost changed the channel. Guest papacita Report post Posted April 13, 2002 Nah, I went temporarily blind during that match. Anyway, I still think Smackdown was good...even though it made no sense to me why Hogan was so mad at Jericho. Oh...and I REALLY wanna see a heel-heel feud between Jericho and Angle. And they need Chyna. Definitely need Chyna. Other than that, I loved it. *****
Guest Report post Posted April 13, 2002 Venture outside your living room one Monday and go watch RAW at a Bar or something and you will see what I mean. The nWo, Austin, and Flair are drawing right now. No other way to get around it. The fans there are cheering them like faces. Anyway this is so strange. I figured the week Raw roster would get them bad ratings. But I guess not. If they keep building stars I think they can be sucessful. D-von DDP and Kidman are going to break out soon. I would like to see the breakdowns. Hopefully the segments all got a good ratings except for stuff with Hogan HHH and Vince. Knowing Vince though he will blame it all on Stacy. Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 13, 2002 d-von won't break out because religous gimmicks never work and besides all the tv time should be focused on the GREAT edge/angle feud. DAMN that's some compelling tv.
Guest Report post Posted April 13, 2002 I have a feeling Albert's 9000th HOSS heel push will be the thing to pick up ratings.
Guest papacita Report post Posted April 13, 2002 I think the religious angle could work. D-Von could go heel and start some kinda psuedo-religious cult and terrorize the undercard. Wait a minute...they already did that with RTC. Nevermind...on an unrelated note...why the hell was Angle wearing a thong? And whose dumb idea was it to have him wrestle half the match with his tights down? Besides that, Smackdown was good. Loved it.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 13, 2002 whose idea do you think it was to have angle wrestle in a thong?? either patterson (for obvious reasons), HHH to humilate him, or Vince to get over how angle isn't worthy of the main event anymore
Guest Report post Posted April 13, 2002 Vince is on Smackdown and he is a huge turn-off, especially compared to the head of the other show, Flair. The Vince/Stacy skit bored and turned off we female viewers much in the same way that we tuned out of "Sex on the Beach" in droves. Almost every true female wrestler is on Raw. Raw had a different feeling to it, despite the presence of many familiar faces. And it's not the new music or set; I'm just getting a different vibe. Being mercifully McMahon-free, it almost feels like another wrestling organization is putting on the show. Smackdown is headed by one monster legend, whereas Raw is headed by two legends (although "lesser" ones). Heyman appears to be working largely on Raw, and I believe that he is easily the best writer/booker the WWF has. While I agree that Smackdown has technically the better roster, I think that Raw has a more colorful cast of characters. Most of the "larger than life" characters (Flair, UT, SCSA, Kane, Big Show) are on Raw and that would have a lot of appeal to casual fans.
Guest Report post Posted April 13, 2002 whose idea do you think it was to have angle wrestle in a thong?? either patterson (for obvious reasons), HHH to humilate him, or Vince to get over how angle isn't worthy of the main event anymore Right on the money. HHH wants to just sink in to the fans Angle is not on his level. A tong? What the fuck? I guess Angle will be joining Billy and Chucky soon.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted April 13, 2002 just because angle got got his tights pulled down, doesn't mean that hhh is out to get him by showing his ass on upn. big fucking deal. shawn michaels used to do that spot in every match. it's just to get a laugh out of the fans which it did. Guest Report post Posted April 13, 2002 I don't know for fact, but I'm fairly certain that a lot of wrestlers wear thongs while wrestling. It's just kind of...noticeable...
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted April 13, 2002 A possible reason for the terrible rating could be the useless Stacy/Vince 10-15 minute segment that took away from other workers who need that time to get over. Vince and Stacy are ALREADY OVER!!!! The rest of the show was not half bad though. HHH and Hogan's interaction was good IMO. Also liked how Angle and Jericho were put over as a pact/faction at the end of the show. If only they could get Edge away from Angle.........
Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted April 13, 2002 Well I think if I said that Austin draws more crowds than Hogan does I would get shot by the smarkdom. But I think the reason is because Austin signed with Raw, Flair is on Raw and people like him more than Vince, and Raw has started somewhat fresh. Smackdown hasn't strayed off from past storylines as much, and has remained very similar to the shows before Wrestlemania.....
Guest Report post Posted April 13, 2002 HHH wasn't on RAW this week, but he was on Smackdown!....
