HHH isn't a draw.

 

The HHH vs. Kane vs. Goldberg triple threat match drew 215,000 buys (0.40). As things currently stand, this is the second lowest drawing PPV of all time behind IYH: It's Time headlined by Bret vs. Sid (0.35).

What are you talking about? HHH drew in 2000. It's clearly Goldberg's fault, since in 2000 Goldberg couldn't draw flies to shit...aka WCW.

He also headlined Royal Rumble with Steiner last year and Survivor Series with Goldberg the month before and drew good buyrates for both shows. He's one of the highest ratings draws on Raw as well, as he should be for his push.

 

HHH is *not* really a draw, but if you're going to make a point like this, don't just look at part of the picture. The December show is typically the least purchased of the year.

It's also worth noting that HHH headlined Badd Blood, which drew a great buyrate, and that the focus was more on Goldberg v Kane in the build to this PPV.

Of course, Goldberg has been booked horribly as a champion and Kane's momentum greatly diminished... which may or may not have been the result of somehhhone sabotaging any potential headliners (Goldberg is a possibility, Kane is up-in-the-air though).

Agreed. HHH has probably hurt both guys by proving himself better than them so many times, but to say HHH is not a draw based on the buyrate for a PPV with one of the weakest lineups in recent memory is not entirely accurate.

Let's make note of how Triple H's involvement in anything Goldberg/Kane related killed any potential that fued had for drawing anyway, so it's not like you'd expect anything from one of the worst built matches of the year.

It's not about HHH being a draw, it's about WWE doing shit to build up a show. Going into Armageddon, NONE of my mark friends (for some reason everyone at my school is a wrestling mark) knew even one of the matches!

In my opinion, a certain wrestler doesn't draw crowds, the storylines do. When SCSA was at top, it wasn't just because of him that people bought a PPV or watched Raw, it was because of his supporting cast.

 

For example, when there is a new TV show with an actor/actress that is already a 'star' there are two ways to market it.

 

A) Market the show around them, with their name being the focus of the show.

 

B) Market the show around the storyline, which happens to have an established actor/actress in the lead role.

 

In most cases, when a network uses method A to market the new show, it fails. IE: The Geena Davis Show and The Michael Richards Show.

 

When a network uses method B to market a new show, it does well. IE: Becker, Two and Half Men, and Spin City.

 

It works for wrestling also; a fan watches the event for the storylines not so much the wrestler.

put out a shitty card with no thought whatsoever to it (few exceptions i guess) and charge 35 dollars, i am suprised it was even this high. maybe people are finally starting to see RAW ppvs suck so there is no point in buyin them.

Like any show, being FAMILIAR and having a CONNECTION with a wrestler is very important. It allows you to invest your time into watching them develop. Sooner down the line, you may get attached to other wrestlers and when that first wrestler is gone, you still have others to be drawn to.

 

I didn't watch Firefly in its initial run because I didn't know any of the actors involved. Then I watched Buffy and Angel and Nathan Fillion and Gina Torres became my "in". I watched the show for them, I got attached to it. They were the "Draw" for the show.
