Jericho's role at the ppv

It was going to be ROCK and Edge vs Jericho and ANgle at the PPV but Rock is out so they went with Edge vs Angle,leaving Jericho without an opponent. On Smackdown, Jericho is heeling it out with Hogan and stirring the pot with him and HHH. Unless they have a different idea, I see them doing an angle on Smackdown with Jericho being the guest ref of the Hogan vs HHH match with the tease of what Jericho's agenda is and who he wants to keep the belt, since they keep on mentioning on TV how Jericho still has not received his rematch.

Jericho as ref may be a way for both men to get out of jobbing of any kind. As Jericho could mess up the match and have it go to a no contest at the end. That would suck really badly but I wouldn't put it past HHHx2 to save face.

A very good theory Damaramu. The backstage story is going to be more intriguing than the in ring product when it comes to HHH vs Hogan. On wrestling observer live, Meltzer said that both men will probrably come to the bookers with their proposed finishes for the match. Hopefully it does involve Jericho. This is one of the few times I am FOR outside interference because it keeps Jericho in the main event picture. With Rock out til possibly June or longer, Angle and Jericho are going to be the workhorses on SD til Benoit gets back. So for all you "Angle and Jericho are going to be de-pushed to the brink of Jakked" fear not. They are still thinking about the best workers, at least I hope they are.

Pretty funny shit. Seriously though, the match will probrably be a peg or two below Rock vs Hogan. Let's not lie, besides the crowd heat, that match blew donkeys. After second viewing, I think it sucked even more because I saw more mistakes. The pace of Hogan/HHH will definitely be slower, but if booked properly can be just as entertaining as Rock/Hogan. At least HHH/Hogan appears to be getting some momentum, unlike all of WM this year.

I think they could put Jericho on permanent commentary for Heat, starting at Backlash. He could say things like "ya goof" and call a reverse DDT the slop-drop.

 

As far as the idea of a ref being better than both of the wrestlers, I think the same would be true even if Earl Hebner did the match.

Jericho could wear the shiny pants and jacket only they'd be black and white striped. The wrestlers could be introduced and then he could just to show he's larger than life. And during the match he could go out and sign autographs and sh*t or pull a Steve Austin from Unforgiven and get on commentary. It'd be hilarious.

Well, they can make some serious money on a Hogan v Jericho feud after Backlash if they so choose. Hogan is red hot right now and Jericho is a better draw than most give him credit for. Ratings either sustained or increased during his run as champ and buyrates were slightly above average. He's also all over Smackdown right now, which is pulling in good numbers. There's no more arrival -- Jericho *is* a top guy.

 

While Hogan v Angle could definitely be entertaining afterward, I think it's wise to do Hogan v Jericho first. Let Angle wind things down with Edge and maybe even with HHH once and for all since he seems to have more on his plate.

Hunter has a Raw feud after Backlash. So if Jericho is facing Hogan and Rock is gone, that leaves Angle all alone. SURGERY!

Very good point since Angle has been putting off surgery since KOTR last year. In that case, maybe Hogan v Angle would be the best route to take first and then do Hogan v Jericho, but let it develop more of a slow build first, which is almost a foreign concept these days.

I dunno, I see more money in Hulk/Angle. (Not just because I am an Angle fan) Maybe they should do a nice long Jericho/Hulk feud first and when kurt comes back let them have a long Angle/Hogan feud.

The Jericho feud would have more real emotion. The Angle feud would produce better matches. I guess it depends on what you prefer as a fan. Both should be good.

But I think they can pull out a "True American Hero" feud with Angle and Hogan. Jericho/Hogan might be a bit more interesting if they start blurring the lines of Kayfabe.

Oh man, I'd laugh so hard if they showed all the old footage of Hogan visiting children and going overseas to the troops, but transposed Angle's head on his body. That would be so awesome! Or even did a sit-down interview with Angle clips intercepted just like they did with Rock before No Mercy 2000. Angle would be GOLD in that feud.

 

As for the Jericho feud, I think the best thing to do is just explain *why* he left WCW. Once you actually EXPLAIN the backstory, you can't really say it's a shoot angle anymore, whether it's based on legit heat or not. They would just have to be careful about how they shaped Jericho's promos because if he was totally honest, he'd probably get sympathy face heat.

Angle - Hogan would be great! They could hsow clip sfrom Wrestlemania 7 when Hulk Hogan was "defending" America against Iraq. Angle could go on about how he defended America in the Olympics. We got a taste of what that feud could be like when Angle name dropped people like Nikolai Volkoff on Smackdown.

 

Angle - Jericho would be awesome too. Jericho could rip up Hogan so much it would be great.

 

I'd also love to see Angle and Jericho come out dressed like the Mega Powers. Angle could be Savage and Jericho could be Hogan. Angle doing a Macho Man impression would be money!
