Michael cole versus vince mcmahon

Now I hate Michael Cole as much as anyone, but when I think about it: is he really the worst play-by-play WWF announcer of all-time? Watch Wrestlemania 10 -- which might have been the best Wrestlemania of all -- and tell me that Vince McMahon doesn't ruin that show. So who's worse; Cole or Vince? And leave Tony Schiavone out of this if you can.

Vince at least had his own style, whatever silliness he did while commentating was original to him.

 

Michael Cole on the other hand is trying to be JR-lyte  every little thing he said, JR said earlier in the week on Monday. Maybe with the Roster split, Cole could maybe think up original things to say, other than PACK of DOGS!  

 

The only thing good out of Cole, was when Austin kicked the crap out of him, and we could have seen a Tazz vs Austin angle, but then the Alliance crap started and dumped that angle, Much like the Roster split did to alot of on going angles, buried and burned them.

Okay.  Standard commentary format: one guy does play-by-play, the other does color.  Tazz and Cole: which one would you THINK is supposed to do color?

 

Tazz, right?  He's the wrestler, he's the one with an interesting personality, etc.  Instead, we get Whiny McCole trying to do color, while Tazz is actually *gasp* CALLING THE ACTION.  

 

I would be obscenely happy if Cole turned heel as a color commentator and Tazz turned face.  It'd be easy, too.  MC interviews Austin, Austin beats the fuck out of him for being an obnoxious little prat, and Angle consoles MC.  Tazz acts indignant.  Switch accomplished, and I don't have to mute the TV during SmackDown matches.

 

Actually, I could probably adjust my equalizer so Cole's high-pitched squeaking doesn't come through.

I don't know, the Coach is pretty bad too. I don't get JakkedMetal in my area, so I'm getting my first exposure to his match commentary now during HeAT.

 

The funny thing about Michael Cole is that I caught part of his 1st hour on Excess with Mark Lloyd and he was busting on Lloyd like he (Cole) was actually halfway decent and worthy of picking on someone elses announcing skills . Just what the world needed, someone lower in the pecking order for Michael "Mr. Attitude" Cole to pick on. I wonder if Michael was put in charge of hazing Mark on his initiation into the WWF .

Cole's godawful, but I really find it hard to believe that he's worse than Vince.  Vince was abominable.

 

And if I may indeed bring in Schiavone, I'd have to say that Fat Tony was better than both of them.

 

I do miss Heenan & Gorilla, though.  Maybe the best announce team ever.

I liked the Jesse Ventura, I can still hear the tale of the tape from WM III.   I also enjoyed Tenay for just for the information he could bring.

 

Kindof still on topic but a little off.... should they bring back 3-man announce teams?  Someone like JR, a color man and possibly a info man like Tenay?

I think Raven and Mark Lloyd I mean "Funky Bunch" are both pretty good. As long as it doesn't interfere with his wrestling as it does with Taz, I like Raven on commentary.

As far as Vince and Cole, I think Vince was good. Like most said, if anything, he was original. Cole is just there and he's annoying on top of it.

Vince was the better announcer hands down. SNME wasn't a classic for nothing. Vince added something to the show. Listen to Vince/Body for the rematch of Hogan/Andre. Cole STINKS! I think if Vince did commentary NOW he would blow though.

I can't forget Vince's, "So close. So very close." And he would totally deadpan that line too, like he knew the match wasn't going to end there. And Vince spawned the "Wait a minute!" that Cole so annoyingly uses today.

Remember when Shane Mcmahon was the commentator when HeAT first started.  he was horrible.  Everytime a big move was made he loudly say "BOOOM!!!"

Between Cole or Vince?  Cole is a terrible announcer.  Vince did have his own silliness, and some matches, he actually called fairly well.  Take Austin vs. Bret at Survivor Series 96.  Jim Ross and McMahon were the only two present, and King was out.  Both JR and Vince were calling the match well and offering good analysis on how Bret can counter or how Austin can capitalize and so on.  Michael Cole doesn't even know the Small Package.  He would say "Oh....and a roll up for 2".  Vince knows the moves much more than Cole.  Yeah both are goofy on the mic, but Cole is the lesser skilled of the two......
