Guest Mik at Cornell Report post Posted April 14, 2002 It was alright, not nearly as good as his first appearance IMO. He did a few funny skits. Almost all of his work involved him singing in some capacity. Rock's skits... Opened the show w/ a monologue, promoed the Scorpion King, and Chris Kattan fake punched him in the face. Was on a Safari show, it was pretty funny but not because of the rock but because of Tracy Morgan. Then he did a Scorpion King bit, where he flubbed a line. He said Tome instead of Tomb and then covered. It wasn't the greatest skit. The funniest skit he was in involved the Rock as Bigfoot and Will Ferrell as Neil Diamond. It wasn't funny because of the Rock but because Will Ferrel's Neil Diamond is pretty damn hilarious. "Is any of this really happening, because I think I'm in the basement talking to my water heater right now." Rock was also sang as the bartender in the gay bar and was filler in a few skits. Not a good show but not because of the Rock. He did alright. It wasn't as good as his last appearance though. Any other thoughts?
Guest Downhome Report post Posted April 14, 2002 I judge SNL shows on the number of times that I laugh out loud, and in THIS show, there just wasn't many at all. It was a borderline horrible show actually. But, not because of Rocky. I thought he did everything great, they just didn't have much for him to work with at all, bad skits all around. By the way, this thread WILL be moved soon to the TV folder, so beware! :

Guest Report post Posted April 14, 2002 It wasn't so great. First appearance on SNL was pretty good. But you guys are right the skits blew. Plus SNL just plain sucks now. Except for Will Ferrel. Seems like their trying to find the right guys except they haven't yet. Man I miss Phil Hartman. That man could do it all.
Guest Steve J. Rogers Report post Posted April 14, 2002 Anyone noticed that the completely ran out of time with the ending, as well as the last bit (Sanz, Morgan and Fallon's musical message) and cut right in the middle of The Rock wrapping up the show. Very odd considering you'd think there is nothing preventing a live SNL to go into overspill ala Raw (or for that matter any live broadcast from sporting events to award shows) I mean in NBC THAT concerned about their affiliates not getting their 1:00 AM Saturday night shows off on time? What, so that they can pop a .00001 ratings? Quite strange. Also this was the first time that a wrestler has hosted SNL without some guests (both Hogan in 85 and Rock in 00 had their respective fellow Wrestlemania main event participants along for the ride) as well there were now wrestling tie-ins in the skits like the last time (only time Rock's profession was refered to was in the monolouge) Hell there was NO Rock catchphrases. I mean I was really hoping Rock would come out and do his ring entrance routine and go "FINALLY!...THE ROCK HAS COME BACK! TO SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!" And close it out with "We have a great show so come right back, IF YA SMMEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLL! WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKING!" Steve
Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted April 14, 2002 The show mostly sucked, except for Rock's monologue("Movies are fake"), Brian Fellow's Safari Planet("That bird is a liar") and Hardball, which is always good. His last show was much better. That's strange, though. One would think that a show WITHOUT Molly Shannon would be infinitely better than one WITH her. What an unfunny scrubber. Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted April 14, 2002 Rock was way funnier and they had a way way better Musical guest last time in ACDC. it is impossible to understand Andrew WKand i personally think he and sucks but his band has some ok music. i liked the gay bar scene and the monologue and thats about it. Will needs to stop using Neil Diamond so much.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted April 14, 2002 Best Skit: Hardball Worst Skit: America Undercover Bravest Performance: Seth Meyers after getting sandwiched by Drunk Girl and Drunk Friend. Weekend Update: Bad. Flat all around, and the Gene Shalit thing was the nail in the coffin. Musical Guest: Bad. The band was good, Andrew WK was kind of uninspiring. Comparing it to the other athlete-hosted shows from this year, it was better than Johnny Mosley, but the Derek Jeter show blew it away (and not just because Shakira was shaking her money maker on that one). Guest KANE Report post Posted April 14, 2002 Andrew W.K. is good...at least on his CD. He sounded flat there, though. Maybe because they didn't turn his mic up. It was an OK SNL.
Guest John Dub Report post Posted April 14, 2002 I didn't think it was that good. Hardball was funny, the gay bar was okay, nothing hilarious though. Brian Fellows is the man, but what in the hell was that skit with Maya Rudolph and Tracy Morgan? Was that supposed to be funny? Weekend update had me rolling on the floor just because of when Horatio goes "I was so scared I pooped in my pants..." Drunk girl is played to perfection though. Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted April 14, 2002 I have never heard of Andrew WK. The band sounded good on the non-lyrical parts but then some idiot wearing all white started trying to sing, I'm assuming that was Andy.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted April 14, 2002 Harbul is the best fucking skit.
Guest imajackoff? Report post Posted April 15, 2002 Has Steph taken over as the head of the SNL writing team as well?? Seriously, it was a pretty poor show but it was none of the performer's fault. The Bigfoot/Neil Diamond sketch was the best o' the show. As far as Andrew WK: is it really neccesary to have 4 guitars in a rock band?
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 15, 2002 SNL is still on the air? What a pity. I will only watch it now when an interesting guest is on like Christopher Walken. Rock doesn't happen to fall in that interesting guest pool.
Guest Report post Posted April 15, 2002 This man was the best of SNL. I like when Farley played Motivational Speaker Matt Foley, he is 35 years old, and thrice divorced, and he lives in a van down by the river. He did nothing but amount to JACK SQUAT!, while mentioning that he lived in a van down by the river.
Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted April 15, 2002 I forgot to mention previously...Weekend Update was merely OK. "Alanis, Alanis. Not everything you write in your journal is a song." The Derek Jeter episode was great. "That's where we want to go, Derek Jeter's Taco Hole" "Oh, that Jeter looks like the The Rock had sex with a muppet" David Wells and David Cone playing the sluts...hilarious. This season has mostly sucked. I've really liked the show for the past couple seasons, but the writing has gone to shit. It espeically hit home with last week's Mr. Peepers sketch. That bit has run its course.
Guest supersalvadorian Report post Posted April 15, 2002 The Rock wasn't that bad last night. The Brian Fellows skit was ok, but seemed a waste of time for the Rock. The Scorpion Prince was pretty funny, even with the 'tomb' flub. The crazy girl was ok, nothing special. The girl with no gaydar was good. That paramedic skit was stupid. And the Neil Young/ Bigfoot pairing was another ok skit. Like i said, the Rock wasn't half bad. If anything really suck, it was the weekend update and Andrew WK, who is such a lame ass long hair rock star wanna-be. That Authur Anderson skit really suck hard too. Supersalvadorian Sexier than the average bear.
Guest Report post Posted April 15, 2002 Rock was way funnier and they had a way way better Musical guest last time in ACDC. it is impossible to understand Andrew WKand i personally think he and sucks but his band has some ok music. I understood Andrew WK's singer. Does the band have a gimmick or soemthing? I couldn't udnerstand why was on SNL. And is Andrew WK the one guy or the whole band? Musical Guest: Bad. The band was good, Andrew WK was kind of uninspiring. Then how was it bad? Comparing it to the other athlete-hosted shows from this year, it was better than Johnny Mosley, but the Derek Jeter show blew it away (and not just because Shakira was shaking her money maker on that one). Was Derek as good as the Rock on that one? And was Johnny Mosely as bad I heard he was? Damn they must of been hard up for someone if they had to get him. Anyone noticed that the completely ran out of time with the ending, as well as the last bit (Sanz, Morgan and Fallon's musical message) and cut right in the middle of The Rock wrapping up the show. Yeah but the message skit sucked. I don't even remeber what they were talknig about. And Kattan coudln't even do his noding right. It didn't even look like Sanz was playing the guitar even. Also this was the first time that a wrestler has hosted SNL without some guests (both Hogan in 85 and Rock in 00 had their respective fellow Wrestlemania main event participants along for the ride) as well there were now wrestling tie-ins in the skits like the last time (only time Rock's profession was refered to was in the monolouge) Who was with Hogan in 85? By the way was he well received? Brian Fellows is the man, but what in the hell was that skit with Maya Rudolph and Tracy Morgan? I don't know. I was completely caught off gaurd by that. What was the song they were singing over anyway? It soudned familiar. Maya Rudolph is pretty fuckable but coemdy's not her thing. "Alanis, Alanis. Not everything you write in your journal is a song."I didn't get that line at all. Was it refering to something in specific?
Guest Report post Posted April 15, 2002 Rock was really good I thought. He didn't get any great material but he carried himself good. Best skits-Brian Fellow, Scorpion King, gay bar and drunk girl. Absolute worst parts-Arthur Andersen, musical message and Gene Shalit on WU, Rudolph and Morgan's fucked up bit Other shitty skits-The rest of Weekend Update, America Undercover and Best preformers-Rock and Tina Fey. Tina Fey really because she looked especially hot. God DAMN she is nice. Why is she never in any other skits besides WU though?
Guest starvenger Report post Posted April 15, 2002 >And is Andrew WK the one guy or the whole band? The one guy. >>Musical Guest: Bad. The band was good, Andrew WK was kind of uninspiring. >Then how was it bad? OK, it was more "eh" than bad. >Was Derek as good as the Rock on that one? And was Johnny Mosely as bad I heard he was? Damn they must of been hard up for someone if they had to get him. As good as Rock's first time, mostly because he got to play Derek Jeter. It did have some lowlights, though - namely Bubba Sparxxx and David Wells in drag (shudders). They booked Mosely before the Olympics, hoping that he'd win a medal. Instead, he finished fourth - all the drug testing, none of the glory - and they got stuck with an Olympic nobody. >"Alanis, Alanis. Not everything you write in your journal is a song." >I didn't get that line at all. Was it refering to something in specific? "Hands Clean", "You Oughtta Know", most of "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie". Let's just say the woman seems to like sharing with us. >Tina Fey really because she looked especially hot. God DAMN she is nice. Why is she never in any other skits besides WU though? Because she's the head writer, and doesn't have too much time for skits (take note, Steph!). And yes, she does look pretty damn good.
Guest Report post Posted April 15, 2002 As good as Rock's first time, mostly because he got to play Derek Jeter. Didn't three Americans win medals for one of the snowboard events? And he got caught with drugs in his system?!?!?! I never heard about that. "Hands Clean", "You Oughtta Know", most of "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie". Let's just say the woman seems to like sharing with us. But alot of artists do that. That's strange for them to say in WU. She's far from the only one.
Guest Jericholic82 Report post Posted April 15, 2002 its the writing thats terrible. the reason the last rock show was good was becuase he had others with him. the opening monolouge with vince, show, foley, hhh and rock is classic. and the skits were much funnier and though out. i doubt rock cared, he was just there to promote his movie. the funniest line of the night was in the scorpion sketch (paraphrasing) and so father and son went out to battle, singing all the way....they were slaughtered. but some people say it didnt matter since the father and son finally got along...those people were also slaughtered bigfoot and neil diamond was funny. "ill kill you black richard mulligan" and the "may not be real" flickering on the order now screen send to neil diamond's water heater behind the burnt-out shoneys 19.95 btw jeters show was the best of the season i think. why did they cut rock off? he was about to say and thanks to... and they cut to a fear factor commercial wtf? Guest John Dub Report post Posted April 15, 2002 I'm not defending Rocky's episode, because I didn't find it that good (Check earlier comments) But Jeter's episode was HORRIBLE! I mean, the skit with the drag was funny, and the point counterpoint thing was pretty good, mainly cuz I'm from Boston, and the weird Kattan thing was funny with Enya, but only to an extent. I found it so bad, I barely even laughed once. Rock's was about just as bad, but I can't see how you people would defend Jeter's episode, that taco skit wasn't funny in the least... Edit: I though Sean William Scott's episode was the best, I don't think I've seen a funnier monologue.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted April 16, 2002 >So he didn't play any characters at all? Was his timing good? It was fine. He read cue cards, but a lot of the hosts do that anyways, since they're not used to live TV, so that's not exactly a condemnation. He played an Iglesias brother (with a freakish mole) and a Yankee wife, and Derek Jeter for everything else. >Didn't three Americans win medals for one of the snowboard events? And he got caught with drugs in his system?!?!?! I never heard about that. I think that was the women's half-pipe. And no, he didn't get caught. It's just that fourth place means you have to do a drug test - but you don't get to partake in the glory of the medal ceremony. So, basically, fourth place sucks. >She's (Alanis) far from the only one. I agree, but she's probably the most open about it, thus it makes her a target. >but I can't see how you people would defend Jeter's episode, that taco skit wasn't funny in the least... Probably the worst skit during that episode. The hits (imo) were: - LFNY: You might be a terrorist if... - Monologue. Cheap comedy, but it spared us the pain of Jeter trying to do a monologue. - The Iglesias brothers. Fallon and Kattan were great. - Yankees wives. "He looks like if the Rock made love to a muppet." - The skit where Kattan is an effeminate kid. "Derek Jeter! If I was 15 I'd have sex with you!" (Amy Pohler said that, not Kattan. Although I wouldn't put it past him) - Point/Counterpoint. They didn't say "Derek, you ignorant slut", but it was great nonetheless. "There are 3 ways that Jeter sucks. Bad, hard, and wicked hard." - Weekend Update. One of the stronger ones on the whole. - Shakira and her ass. 'nuff said. Basically, I thought over half the skits were good, whereas I only thought about 2 or 3 of the Dwayne's skits were good. I should point out that I'm not a baseball fan, and I detest the Yankees, so liking the Jeter episode is pretty much out of the norm for me. In fact, I watched expecting to see him fail spectacularly.

In fact, I watched expecting to see him fail spectacularly. So if you are not a baseball fan, then how can you DETEST a team like that? If you are a Boston fan then I understand, but not even a baseball fan? I'm sick and tired of all the people who rag on NY and the fans and crap, just plain mean stereotyping. If i wanted to I could do a mean list of things I have discovered about California People since I moved here, but I have class. ah hell I know you're going to hate me anyway so, screw it.
