Guest Report post Posted April 15, 2002 I saw that the WWF wants to change the format of Excess again, any ideas? I'd like to see them show some first-run matches. The format they have now is probably the best idea, as a recap for both RAW and SmackDown!, but I still think it would be nice to see some first-run stuff. Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted April 15, 2002 break it into two seperate things... one hour, put metal on the same channel nationally second hour show classic wwf recaps are retarted the only people that watch those are people that watch sd and raw
Guest The Armchair Booker Report post Posted April 15, 2002 Common sense could be a starting point, but we all know that the WWF isn't the best at that sometimes. First off, they need to make it a must watch, or semi-must watch show. Having a Val Venis vs. Funaki match on it will not change the need to see the show. It should be something a little different, almost a smarter show. From the vault was a good start. Heres a few other ideas (mostly off the top of my head just to show how easily the WWF can imporove their shows if they actually considered what the fans want to sea) -What happened after RAW or Smackdown went off the air. This would be a cool, original little feature. They could even hype it as Raw/Smackdown go off the air. I know somethings they can't show (for example, say HHH does the people's elbow with the Rock after Smackdown is off the air). But, the things that ruin someone's character can be shown. For example, if Austin gets on the mic and gets Hall back in the ring for one more stunner, show that. -House show matches. This works on two levels. It gives people a reason to watch Excess AND it gives people reasons to buy tickets for the events that come to their areas (as it hypes the importance of house shows). Picture Coach: "Austin and (Wrestler X) had some words on Monday night and fought off against eachother in a tag match in Kansas over the weekend, heres the match (or the last five minutes of it)." They don't have to give away major matches, but a lot of times house show matches could easily be TV matches. -An "On the Road" feature. They could follow a different wrestler each week. It shows him getting up after RAW or whatever and driving to the next town. He can tell stories about the road life etc. It follows him to the arena for the house show and shows him finding out who his opponent is and changing etc. They don't have to show him planning the match as that is breaking kayfabe too much. Maybe then they could show his match from the houseshow. Or maybe if they followed him to a taping, they could replay the match from RAW or whatever. -"Lockerroom Interviews." It doesn't have to be anything special. Just an "Excess Exclusive" to hype. It would be kind of cool and different for them to do it backstage, maybe in the dressing room right after a match or a segment. Like after the main event on RAW having (Wrestler X) saying "Yeah, he got me tonight, but I'll have something to say this weekend" or whatever. Once again, it just gives you a reason to watch the show (Announcer: "Do you want to know what (Wrestler X) had to say about his loss on RAW") -Trivia Question of the Week- I watch "NHL Be A Player", which is the Player's Association show. Every week they have a semi-hard question. Its something you can guess at but might not know. (for example, who is the only goalie to win the playoff mvp three times or something like that). Then they ask players (NOT fans) the answers. Sometimes they are in the dressing rooms, sometimes at practice it seems. It would be just cool to see wrestlers answer these questions. For example, who has held the IC belt the most times etc. They usually have a little laugh with eachother (a lot of times they are asked the question in pairs). This would show them outside of the ring, but wouldn't make them seem too out of character. Anywhoo, these are a couple of suggestions. And with the exception of the first two, I made them up on the fly. This goes to show how LITTLE thought WWF goes into improving Excess. These are not expensive ideas. They just require cameras and a little extra work. Also, a little off topic, I think the WWF should hype house shows a lot more on WWF TV. Think of JR saying "Stone Cold didn't get the best of Taker (for example) tonight, but I wouldn't want to miss their match tomorrow night in Anytown, NY." Maybe even have the wrestlers mention their future matches in interviews. Anyways, I hope the WWF improves Excess, not that I watch it. But, maybe if they did improve it, it would give me a reason to roll my VCR
Guest The Armchair Booker Report post Posted April 15, 2002 oops! In my section about showing what happens after the WWF go off the air, I meant to say to show stuff that DOESN'T ruin peoples character.
Guest alfdogg Report post Posted April 15, 2002 I say if Jakked is indeed going to be for the cruisers, fuck Excess and give Jakked 2 hours if they still insist on showing RAW/Smackdown highlights.
Guest Report post Posted April 15, 2002 They need to show the Jakked/Metal matches on Excess. I don't get Jakked/Metal and some of the matches have been sounding awesome lately.
Guest Report post Posted April 15, 2002 Damn Armchair! Those are some sweet ideas. The WWF should do nay of that stuff and I wil lat least tape Excess. -Trivia Question of the Week- I watch "NHL Be A Player", which is the Player's Association show. Every week they have a semi-hard question. The player's assoication? You mean the union? They have there own show? Damn I didn't know that! When is it on? Is it any good? Guest The Armchair Booker Report post Posted April 15, 2002 Yeah, NHL Be A Player is the NHLPA's (player's union) weekly show. I'm from Canada, so up here it comes on Sportsnet. I don't have a clue where it comes on in the States. I'm sure you can check NHLPA.com though. The trivia question is probably the coolest part of the show, they also got player interviews, and features on old players etc. A decent little show, nothing extraordinary. Anywhoo, but yeah, my suggestions and the fact that I made up the last three on the fly just show how lazy the WWF are. Take Wrestlemania, I don't mind bad booking. The Diesel era and around that time was BAD booking. Wrestlemania this year was just LAZY booking, they never hyped nothing except for Flair/Taker, Rock/Hogan and maybe a little Austin/Hall and without this hype it makes the event seem like any other show. How did Wrestlemania seem any more meaningful that No Way Out, which featured Taker vs. Rock, Austin vs. Jericho, and HHH vs. Angle? And this is the case with Excess. Time and time again you hear on the Ross Report how they are hoping to improve it. How? By taking away the original matches and the only good feature, From the Vault? Great work guys. Just listen to the fans and you'll hear what they want. It kind of gets on my nerves sometimes how little they respect the internet fans. We are the only ones who treat their industry with any bit of dignity, respect, and legitimacy and we get treated like shit by them. I like to think of myself as a fan who is not jaded, and I'm definitely not alone. We're not all like Scott Keith, no offense. What other sports treat their hardcore fans like a piece of crap? Great business practice guys.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 15, 2002 Unless they are going to make it a major show with some big name wrestlers ala SNME it'll never be a big ratings getter. It's very unlikely that will ever happen so Excess will never get big ratings. That being said i think Excess should be divided into two parts. One of the hours should show footage of OVW and HWA and the better matches from Jakked. The other hour should include around 10 minutes of recaps of the major storylines since we all know that WWF just has to have god damn recaps. Around twenty minutes used for showing a complete "classic match" and/or showing highlights of a "classic feud" and then maybe discuss it if there is something to say about what was shown or get an interview from one or both of the guys featured. Then the rest of the show could feature various things with the current wrestlers like asking different wrestlers trivia or having an q and a with someone or have fans call in to the show. Another good things would be to have interveiws with wrestlers involved in the current fueds to get people who aren't die hard fans to want to tune in. Guest Report post Posted April 15, 2002 NHL Be a Player used to be on ESPN 2 from time to time. It also used to be on MSG network in my area, so chances are it's still shown on Fox Sports Net. As for Excess, I agree that they should have kept the From the Vault segment. It makes no sense to get rid of the one portion of the show that I (and many others) used to tape it for. Now I just ignore it all together. As for them showing *any* kind of matches on Excess, my feeling is they gave Heat more time for matches, so I'm not going to hold my breath for them to give me match time on another show. God forbid the World Wrestling Federation should devote any more time to wrestling than they already do.
Guest JMTapes Report post Posted April 15, 2002 "-House show matches" A thousand times yes. Also, put the Jakked matches on there. Why have a syndy show with matches, and have a national show with only recaps? Jakked could be like Challenge was at the end, a recap show. And, have a cassic match. But NO FUCKING CLIPPING!! It's a 2 hour show, there's NO REASON you can't show a 20 minute match. Thanks. -JM
Guest thebear Report post Posted April 15, 2002 They Need To Make Excess A 2-Hour Classics Show... I believe they own the WCW (Post 90) Archive, and All of thier own archive.. Would it be that hard to gain access to the ECW Archive? What I purpose is having Excess become a two hour classics show, Use a current star to highlight 5 or 6 of his best matches/promos, or use it to build to matches coming up... Example: Week 1: Review The Undertaker/Stone Cold Past They would combine showing 3 or 4 matches they were involved in, include interviews and such, THEN highlight what's been going on leading up to the current match at Backlash.. Week 2: RVD Profile: Highlight RVD's Title Reign in ECW (Maybe Bam Bam/RVD, Lynn/RVD or The 6 Man Tag (Triple Threat VS Taz/Sabu/RVD) Highlight his return from his injury, and subsequent entry into the WWF. Highlight his Angle/Austin storyline, along with the Chris Jericho mini-fued... Mostly highlight the 2 year title reign, so it becomes a serious possibility that RVD Could be holding on to that IC title for a long time...
Guest FakeRazor Report post Posted April 15, 2002 Well, McMahon is constantly toying with the idea of a 24 hour wrestling channel, so I'd like to see him use Excess as testing grounds for showing old school stuff to see how it does. The timeslot sucks though, so I don't know if the results would be conclusive. Just some food for thought.
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted April 15, 2002 They need to bring back From the Vault, without question.
Guest Report post Posted April 16, 2002 I'd like to see something like on the Mick Foley Hard Knocks and Cheap Pop's DVD where Mick picked 5 of his favorite matches. Maybe do something like that. Maybe 2-3 PPV matches from the past and a couple RAW/Smackdown matches or ECW/WCW. Example if this were Benoit's(mine) favorites you could do: Owen Hart Memorial Match from Nitro between Benoit and Bret Hart. Chris Jericho VS. Benoit in the ladder match from 2001 Royal Rumble Angle vs. Benoit from WM X-7 Benoit/Jericho in the TLC match from Smackdown and the Benoit/Jericho match when they won the tag titles from Austin/HHH. And I think those would all fit in the 2 hour time frame even with commericals.
