Guest Redhawk Report post Posted February 22, 2004 I know some people who think -- and I've heard many people say -- it's wrong to root for another college team besides your own. Personally, I don't have a problem with it. I go to Seattle University, but my favorite college basketball team is (and always has been) Georgetown. My sister went to U of Toledo, but still roots for the U of Washington football team. Some people at my school are like, "Why do you still like G'Town when you go to SU?" Well, for one, we're not even D-I. But even if we were, I grew up on the Hoyas. But they liken it to rooting against your H.S. alma mater, which I argue is different. Is there anything wrong with this, in your eyes?
Guest Report post Posted February 22, 2004 No, so many people do it that it doesn't really matter anymore.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2004 I'd think it's only an issue if you root for a major/conference rival of your school Otherwise, if you root for a school across the nation or such, I don't think it should be an issue
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2004 Its like living in Toronto and rooting for the Habs. Just because you live in the city of the crowd favoutite, doesn't mean you have to like them yourself

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2004 I go to OU and I root for Michigan and Florida as well as OU. Now if they were to go up against OU I'd be behind OU. But no I don't see anything wrong with it.
Guest Jimbo Report post Posted February 22, 2004 Yeah, I think I'll be running into that predicament myself... I have a decent shot to get into G'Town next fall, but it will still be very tough and odds are I won't, so I'll hopefully end up at another East Coast school, like Boston College, St. Joe's, Wake Forest, or UVA or maybe some other smaller school in the area. So, it's going to be pretty friggin' tough to walk around with my G'Town hat (never leave home without it), chearing for G'Town when I hear about them for anything, and being asked where my alliegences lay, especially if I went to BC. Life would be a a lot simpler if 15000 people wouldn't apply there every year and they'd just let me in...GRRR... At least I'm not trying to get into Syracuse as a G'town fan, LOL, which incidently a friend of mine tried to do (but her father, a g'town alumnus, wouldn't pay a cent of her tuition, lol)
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2004 I'd say that it depends on the situation. If you go to a school but root for one of it's rivals, that might be a bit screwed up. (Like, if someone goes to Harvard and root for Yale or Princeton. Or, if someone goes to Boston College and roots for Boston University.) But if you're picking a team that in no way is considered a rival of your school, then it's Ok in my eyes. I went to Colorado State, but root for BU in hockey. If CSU had a legitimate hockey team, I'd root for them, and since the two teams will NEVER meet in a game, I don't think it's an issue.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2004 Dude, you go to Seattle U so you can root for any team you like. Hell, they aren't even in the same division of NCAA sports. You can root for both, doesn't make a lick of difference until they play each other or SU moves up into the same conference/division as G'town. The rules are simple: #1: If you go to College at the rival of your favorite team, you either have to change alliances or transfer. For your own safety. #2: If your favorite team comes to town, you must cheer against them if they are playing your college. That's about it actually. But you go to Seattle U so I don't even understand why any of them would give a damn that you like G'town. Your school is insane, you are fine. They don't compete for the same title. They aren't in the same state. Your fine. You are allowed one favorite by division. You can cheer for both and the sports god will not be angered much by your betrayal to G'town. Just remember the rules and you are fine.
