WCW Great American Bash

Live From The Baltimore Arena on the 13th of May 2001

The show opened up with a video package of the "New" WCW.  Tony Schiavonne welcomed us to the show and went straight to the opening match.

Best Of British Ladder Match

Jodie Fleisch Vs Jonny Storm

On top of the ladder they had a trophy which had the words "Best Of Britain" written on it.  This was a great back and forth encounter involving many great highspots.  Jonny Storm won after clotheslining Jodie Fleisch out of the ring with the ladder.

Winner: Jonny Storm (15:15) ***3/4

Jonny Storm got the microphone and told Jodie Fleisch that he has proved himself as the Best Of Britain and held that trophy in the air.  He said that Jodie should go back to the UK and leave Jonny Storm to be an ambassador of Britain in WCW!

Backstage Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff and DDP were interviewed by Gene Okerland.  Hulk Hogan said that Eric Bischoff will become the new owner of WCW tonight with the help of DDP and Hollywood Hulk Hogan.  DDP said that after tonight he's going to go straight back after Scott Hall & Kevin Nash.  Eric Bischoff told Vince Russo not to take it personally when he puts him out of a job.

Tony Schiavonne commented on how neither Eric Bischoff or Vince Russo can be trusted.  Scott Hudson said that Eric Bischoff is probably the best choice for WCW.

Before the Vito/Bull Inferno/Rhodes match a video package was shown highliting the feud between Rhodes and Vito/Bull.  Starting at Marinara asking for the money back from Dustin to Dustin challanging them to a match tonight.  Tony Schiavonne reminded everyone that if Rhodes/Disco win tonight then Dustin doesn't have to pay his loan back, but if Vito/Bull win tonight then he has to pay tripple of what he owes.

Big Vito & Johnny The Bull (w/Tony Marinara) Vs Disco Inferno & Dustin Rhodes

This match was a back and forth encounter until Tony Marinara got involved.  He got involved pulling Disco Inferno to the outside and a brawl started between the four Wrestlers and Tony Marinara.  When the match went back to the ring and Big Vito & Johnny The Bull took control of the match until Disco tagged out to Rhodes and he started to brawl with Johnny The Bull on the outside, Dustin Rhodes dominated the match in the ring... but Tony Marinara hit him with his suitcase and Big Vito beat on him in the ring and Dusty Rhodes ran out and attacked Tony Marinara then distracted the referee as Big Vito pinned Dustin Rhodes.  Big Vito then got up to complain and Dustin Rhodes rolled up Big Vito for the win and then just rolled out of the ring and walked backstage as Dusty Rhodes celebrated in the ring.  Johnny The Bull then got in the ring with Tony Mairnara.  Tony Marinara hit him with the Suitcase and Johny The Bull went up top and give him the Flying Leg Drop before they all walked backstage.

Winner: Disco Inferno & Dustin Rhodes (8:09) 3/4*

The Filthy Animals told Gene Okerland that they are going to keep the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles tonight.  Rey said that he's been in the LWo before and that he wants to make sure that they don't rise up again.

Backstage The NBT were interviewed by Pamela Paulshock.  Mike Sanders said that RVD & Sabu got lucky over the last few weeks but tonight the Natural Born Thrillers are going to prove why they are the New Breed of Pro Wrestling.

The Latino World order told Gene Okerland through their translator that they are going to become the WCW Cruiserweight Champions tonight, no matter what!

WCW Cruiserweight Title

Jerry Lynn Vs Psicosis Vs Shane Helms ©

This was a great Cruiserweight encounter.  Shane Helms was double teamed in the early going by Jerry Lynn and Psicosis.  Psicosis then turned against Jerry Lynn to try and get the match finished quickly and then went up top and gave Shane Helms a Moonsault but Lynn broke the count at two then Lynn took down Psicosis with an Enziguri for a two count.  Lynn then went up top and tried to splash Helms, but he moved out of the way, Psicosis then went for a senton and Lynn moved out of the way so Helms went for a moonsault on Psicosis, but Psicosis moved out of the way so Jerry Lynn went for a Flying Leg Drop, but Helms moved out of the way so Psicosis went for a Shooting Star Press, but Lynn moved out of the way, so Helms went for a Asai Moonsault, but Psicosis moved out of the way so Jerry Lynn went for a Splash AND HIT!!!  Psicosis managed to break the count at 2 though.  The control of the fight managed to change between all three Wrestlers until La Parka and Lizmark Jr came out to the ring, Psicosis threw Shane Helms over the top rope as La Parka hit Jerry Lynn with a Chair for Psicosis to hit a Flying Leg Drop.  Shane Helms tried to get back in the ring but the LWo held him back for Psicosis to get the win.

Winner: Psicosis (19:52) ***1/2

After the match the LWo and their Translator got into the ring and the LWo announced that they are branching out from a Tag Team into a new stable with their new member Psicosis!  They said that they weren't allowed to enter the Cruiserweight Title Match because they have their Cruiserweight Tag Team Title Match later in the evening and they announced that the LWo is going to become a major force in Cruiserweight Wrestling!  Lizmark Jr handed Psicosis a LWo T-Shirt.

Backstage Sting was interviewed by Gene Okerland.  He said that tonight he is proud to go into the match as the Franchise of World Championship Wrestling.  He says that for so many years he lived and breathed WCW and he never thought that he recieved any respect for it.  But back at the Night of the Champions, he finally did.  He got the chance to carry the ball for the company, and tonight he isn't prepared to drop it to someone who doesn't live for the company, to someone who doesn't breath WCW 24/7, to someone who won't respect the fact that being the Franchise means that you are carrying the torch for guys like Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Arn Anderson, Hulk Hogan, everyone who has made WCW what it is today.  Shane Douglas doesn't understand or respect that.  Tonight the Stinger is going to leave with the Title "Franchise" still intact!

WCW Cruiserweight Tag Tean Title Match

The Filthy Animals (w/Torrie Wilson) © Vs The Latino World order (w/Psicosis)

The Filthy Animals took control early on with some High Flying moves,  but the LWo started to double team Rey Jr and then started to use their High Flying moves to an advatage to keep him down, Rey tried to make the tag to Kidman but The LWo kept him down until La Parka missed a Summersault Senton and he made the Tag.  Kidman took control of the match but the LWo fought back and the match went back and forth until Juventud Guerrera and Chavo Guerrero Jr attacked The Filthy Animals and The LWo got the win!

Winners: The Latino World order (20:01) **3/4

After the match the LWo celebrated in the ring and La Parka handed Chavo & Juventud Guerrera an LWo shirt.

Backstage RVD & Sabu were interviewed by Mean Gene Okerland.  RVD said that the NBT have been trying to take the Tag Team Titles off them since they won them.  He said that the NBT have failed each time and are about to fail again!

Booker T was shown walking into the arena with Stevie Ray and a Doctor, James J. Dillon asked if he was alright.  Booker said he was fine and walked past him with Stevie Ray.  The Doctor said that he couldn't give Booker T medical clearance to Wrestle.  JJ Dillon handed the doctor some money and he said that he advertised the match so he's going to deliver the match.

A video package of the build up to the WCW Tag Team Title Match was shown.

WCW Tag Team Titles

Palumbo & O'Haire Vs Rob Van Dam & Sabu (w/Bill Alfonso) ©

Palumbo & O'Haire got in control of the match very quickly and they dominated RVD & Sabu with their power.  But RVD & Sabu got back into the match using their speed and agility to take their opponents down.  The match went on with control switching back and forth between the two teams until Rob Van Dam hit Chuck Palumbo with the Five Star Frog Splash for the win.

Winners: Rob Van Dam & Sabu (16:10) *3/4

As RVD & Sabu walked backstage the NBT walked out and attacked them and took them back to the ring, they beat them down and threw a Natural Born Thrillers shirt accross the two of them then walked backstage.

Backstage Vince Russo & The Outsiders told Gene Okerland that tonight they are going to crush Bischoff, Hogan and DDP.

A video package is shown of the Russo & Outsiders/Bischoff, DDP, Hogan feud starting at the first Nitro on Fox where Bischoff and Russo both applied to become WCW Owner and JJ Dillon made a match between the two.  It followed on through the evening when Bischoff's car was smashed up and Russo left a note saying "See you at the bash", then Nash attacked him.  It showed the next show with Bischoff phoning up a "Friend" and Nash & Russo's attack on him.  It then showed the next show where DDP & Bischoff were attacked by Russo and Nash, then Hogan made the save but was tazered by Scott Hall and JJ Dillon made the match a 6-way elimination Tag match.  The next week was shown when Russo, Hall & Nash attacked Bischoff, DDP & Hogan, Russo said that Bischoff can be a janitor if he loses at the Bash.  Clips of the DDP/Hall match were shown from the final week which ended in a double count out when Russo, Nash, Hogan & Bischof interfiered and it turned into a brawl between Hogan, Bischoff & DDP against Nash, Russo & Hall.

Control of WCW Match

6-Man Elimination Tag Match

Eric Bischoff, Diamond Dallas Page & Hollywood Hulk Hogan Vs Vince Russo, Kevin Nash & Scott Hall

This match was a total brawl.  Eric Bischoff started in asking for Russo, but Russo tagged out to Nash who destroyed Eric Bischoff but let him tag out to Hulk Hogan.  Hogan got the advantage on Nash but Hall came in and double teamed him while the referee's back was turned as he tried to keep DDP out of the ring when he tried to help Hogan.  Nash and Hogan then traded offence for a while but Nash got the advantage again and then started to make quick taggs between himself and Hall until Hogan managed to make the hot tag to DDP who took down both Hall and Nash then almost eliminated Scott Hall with a Diamond Cutter but Russo broke up the count.  DDP pushed Russo out of the ring but Scott Hall rolled him up and used the tights to get 1..2...3 and eliminate DDP.  Hulk Hogan got in the ring and hit Scott Hall with a big boot but Nash attacked him before he could get the Big Leg Drop.  Nash then beat down on Hulk Hogan until the referee sent him out of the ring, Hulk Hogan then got back to his feet slowly and then ducked a punch from Scott Hall and sent him to the ropes for the big boot and then hit the Big Leg Drop but before he could make the pin Kevin Nash nailed him in the face with a chair and got disqualified!  Both Hall & Hogan slowly made their way to the corners and Hogan tagged out to Bischoff while Hall tagged out to Russo.  Both Bischoff and Russo hit each other with clotheslines and then got back to their feet Bischoff took control of the match with some kicks and sent Russo to the ropes and hit him with a thrust kick to the head.  He then picked Russo up and hit him with the Nightcap and made the pin 1..2...Scott Hall breaks up the pin.  He then went to give Bischoff the Outsiders Edge but Hogan clotheslined him before he could, Hogan then sent Scott Hall out of the ring and started to brawl with him on the outside.  In the ring Eric Bischoff made the pin again 1..2...kick out.  Hulk Hogan and Scott Hall were forced back to their corners and Eric Bischoff tagged to Hogan who got ready to give some revenge back to Vince Russo!  He tossed Russo around the ring like he was nothing and completely destroyed him and had him beat... but Scott Hall hit the referee with a chair and then attacked Hulk Hogan with the Chair.  Eric Bishcoff tried to help Hulk Hogan but Scott Hall hit him with the Chair too and give him the Outsiders Edge.  Scott Hall helped the referee back to his feet and Vince Russo crawled on top of Hulk Hogan 1..2...3-NO KICKOUT!  Hogan got back up and started to Hulk Up!!  Scott Hall ran in and Hogan punched him twice and then clotheslined him over the top, Russo then hit him with a Low Blow and rolled him up 1.kickout.  Hogan then hit Russo twice and sent him to the rope for the Big Boot.... but Scott Hall hit Hogan with a Chair and Russo DDT'd him for a 1..2..KICKOUT!  Scott Hall then got in the ring and hit him with the Outsiders Edge and Russo pinned 1..2....3!  Hulk Hogan was eliminated!  Eric Bischoff then tried to take over the fight with Russo with a series of kicks to the head, but Scott Hall came into the ring and destroyed him and give him an Outsiders Edge then let Russo hit him with the New York Driver for 1..2...3!

Shane Douglas got the advantage straight away after a rake to the eyes.  Sting gets the advantage back after Shane Douglas works on him on the outside, the match goes back to the ring and Sting takes over the match with his technical knowlage and tries to lock on the Scorpian Death Lock, but Shane Douglas grabbed the ropes before Sting could turn him, Shane Douglas and Sting then traded the advantage for a while until a woman walked out from the back and handed Shane Douglas a Chain which he put around his hand and he hit Sting with then pinned for 1..2...3!

All in all I'll give the PPV 8 out of 10.

Hits -

The Rhodes Saga.

I'm liking this interesting angle here. No matter what Dusty does to help his son, he still can't win over his affection.

Will be interesting to see what Dustins reaction will be after The Mamalukes punked out his dad.

L.W.O Run Supreame.

Didn't see this coming. You certainly lover your cruiserweights.

Maybe a new stable of Filthy Animals consisting of Kidman, Ray , Helms and others can end the LWO'S domination of the Criuserweight scene.

The WCW Title Match

Glad to see Flair back, will be intriging to see where he will fit in. Liked the fact that the doctor didn't grant the match, but the greedy promotor did.

Francine

Booking that just makes sense. I think pushed in the right way Douglas could be a very good heel in The new WCW.

Misses

The Cruiserweight Title match.

A shock the Picosis went over, that's not my beef. It's all those missed moonsaults and top rope moves, that went on far too long. I think one miss each would have been enough.

Where Is?????

Jeff Jarrett

Goldberg

Buff Bagwell

Hugh Morrus

Vampiro

Mike Awesome

Lance Storm

If you can find a PPV spot for Disco Inferno, surely you can start introducing these guys over the next few weeks.

As I said though Good booking. Look 4ward to your next batch and the extra show in Saturday Night.

I liked it. So long as Russo and Bischoff wrestling isn't a regular thing :)
