TNA Xplosion for 2/27

Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes

A Semi-Quick recap, as it's just a brief run-down of what happens in my opinion. Most of the PPV angles will be based on the full segment, but the matches from the PPV will be ignored thanks to only beng 10 second clips each. Xplosion usually features a couple of jobber matches with TNA regulars and some Indy workers no one knows. This is just to help others know what's on TNA, since only a small portion view. If I made an error, please forgive. With no TNA Review for this week, that is the only major reason I'm willing to recap.

NWA-TNA Xplosion: (February 27th, 2004)

Video recap from the PPV with the multiple angles with Jarrett/Russo, including from the 11/20/02 PPV when Jeff Jarrett defeated Ron Killings for the World Title, thanks to the help of "Mr. Wrestling III," who ended up being Russo in his debut. Flash forward to June 11th, 2003 when Styles pinned Jarrett for the title thanks to Russo. Then in October of last year, Jarrett completely massacred Russo with chair shots, putting him out until this past week when he debuted as the new Director Of Authority (DOA for short).

Mike Tenay & Jeremy Borash dump Scott Hudson from Xplosion thanks to Russo. The ICP Returns is hyped along the bottom of the screen. Pimping for Styles & ??? vs. Abyss & ??? for World Tag Team Titles. Tenay tiptoes along who helped Abyss defeated Styles, because PPV's aren't free and they don't want to give it away.

Vince Russo; The New Director Of Authority!

Highlights from this past Wednesday, as Vince Russo comes out to give his explanation of his past. I'll give the low down from the PPV as Russo says that he sold his soul to the devil to make wrestling what it is. Russo claimed that he was a changed man by denouncing NUDITY AND VIOLENCE, and for those who didn't notice, the TNA dancers are nowhere to be seen. Jarrett eventually comes out to punk Russo out like he's Teddy Hart, but Russo isn't biting and just says Jarrett proved his point for him and walks away with Jarrett standing in the ring with a puzzled look on his face. [Everything Russo said before Jarrett came out was clipped from the show] 1/1 As I generally enjoy Russo's angles.

America's X-Cup II: Team AAA vs. Team Canada, No Team TNA

Americas-X Cup pimpage, as on March 10th Team AAA defends the title against Team Canada. Team AAA consists of Juventud Guerrera, Mr. Aguila, Abismo Negro, and Hector Garza as last time, and for Team Canada, Teddy Hart, Petey Williams, Jack Evans, and Johnny Devine. Clips from Williams/Lynn/Guerrera shown from the PPV, with Williams pinning Guerrera. Backstage camera inside Team Canada's locker room where team captain Teddy Hart fired up his team. No point, as it wasn't anything except a 30 second clip. 1/2

1st Match: (X-Division Champion) Chris Sabin vs. Sebastion

I'm not sure if Sebastion is the jobber's whole name or not, as Mike Tenay only name drops once or twice at most. Quick match with some real fast pace action thats hard to call. Sabin sends Sebastion to the outside with dropkicks then teases a plancha. Sebastion tries a Tornado DDT out of the corner, but Sabin blocks and follows with a snap suplex. Sebastion attempts another comeback, but misses a Springboard corkscrew. Sabin quickly recovers enough to nail the Future Shock for the win. Match couldn't have lasted more than 2 minutes. Worth half a point for a nice fast pace match, but nothing put together makes enough for a full score. 1.5/3

More pimpage, as this coming Wednesday, Team TNA (Jerry Lynn, Chris Sabin, Elix Skipper, Sonjay Dutt) take on Team Japan, who are not named yet, which makes me want to order to find out. NOSAWA is an easy bet, since he's done several TNA shows before. Topic moves to Johnny Swinger & Simon Diamonds break up, who have teamed in TNA for a good 7-8 months, as well as in ECW back in the day. Highlights of some dumbass Juggalos. Sorry, but I don't really care about these dudes. 2 Dope & J are funny, but that's it.

Swinger & Diamond Split!

Highlights from Swinger/Diamond as I already mentioned the match was nothing. Swinger originally wins thanks to the use of foam knuckles but the referee restarts the match, so Diamond eventually wins via disqualification when Gilberti, Kid Kash, and David Young come out to help lay a shit kicking in on him. The two Juggalos try helping him out but they also fall to the wrath of Jarrett's crew. I didn't really like this, but to be nice I'll give it nothing. 1.5/4

Match #2: Simon Diamond vs. Onyx

Diamonds I guess the face, but he gets little to no reaction. I seem to keep thinking Onyx has been in one of WWF/E's development territories before, but I'm having my doubts. VERY quick match again, with Diamond controlling the match with mainly punches and kicks. Onyx keeps a good pace, controlling Diamond to start with a powerslam for a shocking two count. Diamond makes an error doing the 360 spin into the corner, allowing Onyx to head to the top rope, missing a cross body press. Diamond finishes the match with an Inverted DDT (so says Hudson). Don't know if this was a half point or not, but I'll say yeah because the matches are quick and fast paced. 2/5

Raven's Destiny Continues...

Highlights from the PPV's Raven & Sabu vs. The Gathering Match. Raven sadly is back to wearing the skirt after returning last week wearing his normal attire. HE ALSO CHANGED HIS THEME SONG! NO! Clipped to the end with Raven catching Punk with the Evenflow DDT after an Irish whip reversal for the three count. Raven calls for the microphone and calls out Jarrett, and his destiny is going to continue for the World Title. Raven questions Chris Harris getting a title sot, then screams out "What about me?! What about Raven!?!" to finish it off. Call me a sucker for Raven, but I enjoyed his quick promo for a full point. 3/6

Americas Most Wanted #1 Fugitive....Jeff Jarrett?

More Highlights from the PPV with Chris Harris pinning Chase Stevens with the catatonic. Vince Russo tells the referee something, and that he has to fight the other member of The Naturals, Andy Douglas. Harris wins that match as well with a school boy after shoving Douglas into Stevens. Russo makes ANOTHER match, with Harris vs. Both Naturals in a handicap match. Harris wins AGAIN, thanks to itnerference by James Storm (the member of AMW I like more) then backstage Russo tells Harris (without acting abilities) after beating around the bush, Chris Harris gets a World Title shot against Jeff Jarrett on March 17th. Half point for a nice little angle, but someone needs to teach AMW how to act or cut a good promo FAST. They might be good in the ring, but on the stick they flat out suck. 3.5/7

Tag Team Championship Conspiracy Continues!

Hype duty for this upcoming Wednesday Night, including Vince Russo's surprise for Jeff Jarrett, as well as Tag Team Champions Abyss & Partner of his choice versus A. J. Styles and partner of his choice. We get into Highlights from Abyss/Styles 2/3 Fall Table Match. Styles with a senton pescado to Abyss on the outside but goes to the well too many times and is back dropped over the top rope from the apron, through a table. Flash to Styles spring boarding off one table and hurricanraning Abyss off the apron through another table at ringside. Clip to Abyss blocking the Styles Clash and nailing the black whole slam. Johnny Fairplay pull a table out of the way of a Styles powerbomb, so Styles gives him the Styles Clash for it. Referee bump time and Styles eventually puts Abyss through a table with THREE splashes, but the referee is down. Then, LEX LUGER RETURNS! (wearing a Yankees shirt!) Luger attacks Styles and casually press slams him over the top rope through a table, revives the referee, and that's good enough to give the win to Abyss. Luger afterwards racks Styles as the PPV ended. Full point here for a nice little highlight package, but Luger coming back is questionable in most peoples eyes. 4.5/8

Afterwards, Luger gives a TNA Xplosion Exclusive Interview, running down Styles as nothing, claiming he's been in more Main events than Styles been in Total Matches. Cut to Abyss grasping both World Tag Team Titles and laughing like a psycho. No words spoken from Hannibal Mankind. I can only bet that he choses Lex Luger as his partner and quickly loses the titles to Styles & Sting. Just a prediction.

Hardselling With Don West!

Vince Russo tests Chris Harris for his up-coming match with Jeff Jarrett, as well as a mystery for Jarrett this coming Wednesday.

The Insane Clown Posse returns to TNA to take out Glen Gilberti and his cronies.

Abyss & His Mystery Partner take on A.J. Styles & His Mystery Partner.

Team TNA takes on Team Japan, who are un-named as of now.

Plus Much More!!!

Post-Show Thoughts:

With only TWO quick squash matches taped from this past Wednesday, this show was giving the upcoming PPV a heavy hype job, advancing several storylines, including the few with Jarrett, Raven, and the Tag Team Title situation. Luger's return put a damper on the show to most people, but I don't care really as long as he keeps his appearences few and far between. With a final 4.5/8, the show was either hit or miss, and thankfully, was more hit. There were better shows in the past few weeks, but this weeks edition wasn't bad. I probably won't do the recaps normally since most of the show is the PPV, so unless the Diatribe/Lazarush aren't able to be done for a week, I'll try and do this.

Very cool to see someone else doing this. I do the TNA Xplosion recap for 411, though right now I schedule it for Monday afternoon in order to plug Wednesday's PPV properly.

Only TWO matches? Ugh.

Both matches COMBINED were about 3:00, so expect LOTS of highlights from the PPV and commercials with The Hulkster!
